Our Black Bear Is Very Naughty

You know I love my wildlife and you know I feed my birds and I have spoken about this Bear before and since I moved my computer out into the quiet kitchen area of the house and am no longer set up overlooking the lower yard and river. I miss a lot.

This morning I slept in till 6 AM as I went to bed real late. I put the coffee pot on and filled up my containers with fresh sunflower Seed to take out to fill the feeders so they could have breakfast while I read your blogs. I have been leaving the feeders empty to not entice this big black bear and any others with it from destroying the set up my darling made for me to feed them all. We recycled and used an old umbrella fabric removed and holes drilled in ends to hang feeders and suet from oh and a BELL since he destroyed it a couple of weeks ago so I can tell when he is out they’re messing with it so I can get PHOTOS after all it is what I DO right.

Well it was raining and JT grabbed her Frisbee and me the seed and off we went out to less than 100 feet from the back door maybe 60. I toss her the toy off she goes to catch then go potty and right back she comes to me for another throw. All the feeders full and us wet after 20 more throws we head back in. My coffee smelt great poured a cup and brought up the new reader to find all of you.

I am enjoying the coffee and reading and laughing and crying as some were real touching when the dog starts going NUTS!

Barking and carrying on. He was still asleep but he yelled BEAR. I go to grab my camera and both are plugged in and charging. I grabbed the Easy Share and I get into the living room where there was only a screen between us and the bag of seed and him and the feeders full of seed. He broke one arm but when JT scared him and our human voices he started to beat feet out of here. Thankfully. Then he stopped and start to turn to look our way and I screamed “Get out of Here” all the while JT going nuts and the poor cat who was outside took off and was not seen for 6 hours.

So here is the only shot I got.

102_7580

Not sure if you can make him out but this is when he stopped and turned and looked at me and the dog seeming to not be worried about us much.  I may end up not feeding the birds there goes my Dragonflies :(

I swear I was just saying life was so CHILL lol then heart beating what would I do if he came through the screen wanting the whole bag of seed :(

I shall load the shotgun and have it ready with the camera  and fire over its head with hopes of making him change his address.

OK I am officially no longer bored

JT’s Adventures ……part one

JT’s Adventures ……part one

JT Close-up

Well by now most of you know our JT (Jess-Tex) at least in photos.  She is our Border Collie and no we do not have a farm.

I have shared my life with fourteen dogs five of which were part of a litter that went on to new homes where they were adored family members.

This dog above was born at a friend’s home,  the male  her father was from Texas and they drove from Vermont to pick him up.  JT’s mother was a dog that was dropped off at their place in Vermont.  Gorgeous lighter Gray with white.  She was scared who knows the kind of life had she lead.

JT was like the runt with a not so perfect face marking and it was just her sister and her no one had chosen to be theirs.

Now I wanted no more dogs but here were the two prettiest faces begging to be loved.  I said I wanted both,  actually could not believe that came out of my mouth.  The daughter said she was taking the tri color one.  I was taking JT as long as they were both fixed,  I didn’t care.

The day we found her in the horse stall with her sister,  we had been camping with a three-year old great-niece  so we went home to NH but when I got to my house I called them and said I would be back up for the pup I had fallen in love with. Her husband was going to be in NH on a welding job so he brought the pup with him so we did not have to go all the way back to northern Vermont.

We bought a leash and collar as well as  bowl and water,  as it would be a long ride for a puppy and headed north.

We took the pickup truck with a bench seat so she could lay between us.   Funny as I look back six and a half years later  at that ride home.  She would lay her head on my leg then wander over to the passenger side for his leg.  She was trying to settle in on that big seat but wanted to be close to both of us,  her HERD.

We stopped often to walk her, and to let her have some water and then she was scooped up again and placed in the middle between us.    It is where she has always ridden till he bought this new truck with the big back seat.  All hersto be sure.

She had been born on Mother’s Day and  in October she took her first really long ride down to Georgia.  We went gold prospecting with a club he belonged to and she set about making many new friends that weekend.  It was really rainy and nasty,  creeks were swollen I was so glad this camping trip was in a cabin with a hot tub.

This pup has led a very interesting life to be sure.  She could have a blog of her own.

We no sooner got back from our trip to Georgia when we set in motion an epic cross-country trip  that would include sleeping out in the wild, in a tent for the month of December.  Not too worry we would be in Arizona and it is still warm right?

We bought an old RV and he made it road worthy and we were looking forward to an amazing journey together.    Then the gas prices soared so we scrapped the idea of taking the old beast back west where it had actually been made.  I looked for a van cheaper on gas and room for all we would need to bring with us.  I found a pretty cool looking Chevy van, a conversion van the kind with a bench seat that lays down and can be used as a bed.  We bought it from a group of men who used it  to go back and forth to New England Patriot football games.  Yes tailgaters.  It has a HUGE Patriots Loge on one whole window.  I never thought about the fact we were going to be in the Super Bowl and the game would be in Arizona!

What a trip that was from the start.  JT could feel the excitement.  I rented a place for our cat to go where,  she was to be treated like a Queen, for the money she better have been the center of attention.  He made a rack for the hitch, the fact he was a welder for 30 years came in handy.  On this rack we took the tool box off the pick-up and placed our clothes and tenting supplies as well has some dry goods like JT’s Food and dog bones.  We would be on BLM land and there would be no stores, no street lights, no phones.  JT would be the only one out of the three of us to do nothing but play as any pup will do.  They said rattle snakes would have taken cover as well as the other critters who live under ground,   I was hoping so.

So we loaded up and headed south, I had to say good-by and Merry Christmas to Mom on our way.  We opened our gifts and had a beautiful meal then loaded back into the van and headed out of New England.  Leaving what we thought  of winter behind us as well.

As we headed south through Massachusetts we heard a lot of horn blowing and people giving me the THUMBS UP  signs that was different for me having been in a big rig all those years and it was never a THUMB I got!  People were excited,  they saw the sign and our team was in the hunt for a ticket to the BIG GAME!  When we hit NJ the looks changed, funny how that works.

I stopped on the NJ Turnpike to top off of the gas tank when a big dark-colored Suburban pulls on the other side of the pump.  It had those really dark windows,  looking kind of sinister.  This is a place they pump for you, so as I am sitting and waiting I hear a horn beep then I see the black glass start to open  and there were four huge black men smiling at me I was kind of confused then one pointed to the SIGN on our window and said GO PATS!!!  They could have been players looking at the size of them!  It was like that the whole trip out. Just random strangers stopping us to congratulate our team on the playoffs  and wishing us well on our journey.  They all petted JT.  I swear more love was given to her that first year of her life.  No wonder she chooses humans over animals to play with.  She never new life as a dog.

Treasure Found Here

Draw Down

Draw Down

We went for a walk

He with the machine to hunt for lost items, his treasure.

Me with JT and the Easy Share.

JT and I walked one way he the other but I found something I knew would help him in his search.

A rope swing!

It is down on the left side of this river where when it is full it is close to the lake.

We stopped to tell him and he headed that way swinging his machine, picking up change

here and there till he got to the swing.  He walked out to where the water would have been

and picked up two rings!  He thanked me and said you are the Treasure Hunter .

No I  just see things random people don’t, maybe all those years driving a rig made this

blonde sit up and PAY ATTENTION .  He got a lot of cash even at a place that rips

you off, Cash for Gold as they say, so we  filled up the tank to be ready for the next

adventure.  This one was right out behind the house less than a gallon to and from

that is perfect when it happens.

Keep your eyes open for treasure you might other wise miss.

Wind

We had taken a trip to the shore to detect the beach, the waves were rough and the winds brisk.

We found a ring and change but once again, I captured on my Easy Share, a few interesting

photos on the way home.

These were  Sail Boats that had been knocked over by the winds.

As we came along this curvy section of shore road I see this young man suiting up to catch the AIR.  I pulled over and caught some action shots like I said I am ALWAYS READY!

I really wanted to just watch as I had never seen this done, close up in a marsh no less.

His Kite goes up in the wind with no problem.

Looks like he is also enjoying the day much differently from how we had but isn’t that what life is about, doing things you enjoy.

See what I mean about a brisk wind, man and I thought racing cars years ago was a RUSH

He and his buddy just jumped out of their cars, suited up, dragged their gear to the edge of the marsh and took off !  They must do this in a lot of places maybe safer than here .lol

We are along a very busy coastal route in NH.

CRAZY

Then the ride ends and thankfully on a cold and raw windy day.

In the middle of the ROADWAY!

I had my photos of this day safely on my SD Card and they were safe and would now pack up to maybe go for a beer and talk about the AIR they had Grabbed!

You just never know what you will find, during the course of a regular, plain old day .

Hope you enjoyed our day too

Cape Cod

Now this is from my point of view.

Others will see  it differently but this is what a day in Provincetown, MA.  is for us.

This was during the winter, albeit a mild one.

This is the light house at the end of the “HOOK”

A Pier in P-Town

We hunt for treasure of ANY KIND. This was  a beautifully warm  January Day.

We meet people we once knew long ago or a stranger whom we will never forget.

We bring our girl JT for a nice ride and a few hours of chasing her frisbee, she hates

when I stop the action to snap a photo of her.

I love these places that have water beneath them when the tides are high.

When the  tides pull back out , it once again becomes a beach.

This one they let dogs play on .

For me all beaches should be free to come and go, as nature meant it to be.

No rules would be nice but so many leave such a mess behind then.

I guess no more so than oil companies and septic treatment plants do.

I take what I bring back out with me, I pick up after JT and he picks up all metal, not just lost change and cell phone  but he finds  copper pieces, lead sinkers and plenty of aluminum none of which should be in such a beautiful place.

We find bottles people have broken the top off and buried just under the surface.  Sad for someone to care so little about another’s life.  We even  find  empty syringes too.

I metal detected for a total of one hr .   and I filled a trash bag with just empty beer cans .

I took  it to  a machine  that took empty cans, for 5 cents each!

It was a good  day!

This was the final photo I took, after a beautiful day spent at the very tip of Cape Cod.

For those who have never been put it on your Bucket List.  So much history here.

Peace

Reunited

A young man looses his high school ring at the beach.

My treasure hunter finds it.

I do some investigating to locate the owner.

We are able to see him put it back on his hand where it belongs!

Perfect ending.

REUNITED

Sunrise at Hampton Beach, Hampton, NH while we search for treasure.

His addiction and how it started,  Part One

My boyfriend started over 20 years ago, on a hit and miss basis, searching for treasure.  His idea, of what treasure was, pretty much is the same but boy has his equipment changed. When he started out it was like me, you find things like change or other free things, in parking lots  and places where people gathered.  He bought a radio shack machine and when he had the time, would use it to see what else he could find.We found each other again after 30 years and he told me about this man George, George Streeter who had a cool shop in Keene.  He said he wanted to go for a ride with me someday, for me to meet him and for him to get a few things.  A few things!  Well We stayed for hours talking to George, I bet he was glad when we left!

Well he put his order in for a White’s DFX.  His dream machine!  He had wanted this one from the first time he saw it, at George’s.  It was on sale at the time George told him.  It came with a nice White’s bag, to keep this machine in and a digging tool and OH Yeah a pin pointer!  Don’t these expensive machines tell you where it is?  Why a pin pointer?  Hang on I know now……….

So we are off, headed back to the coast where he can hardly wait to see how much more he can find with this top of the line, White’s machine.  We had to stop and charge the batteries at home, boy another delay for him!  He was excited with this purchase and wanted to use it now!

You know about treasure hunting if you are reading this short story, you know there will be times, many in fact that you get no more than change, dirty change to boot!

As we approached the sandy area of Hampton Beach, me with the digger, him with his new toy “The Ultimate Machine”  we decided on a direction to walk and as I walked beside him,  I could see how happy he was.  To me that is all that has ever meant anything to me.  I knew he went years in life providing for others, ones who could care less about his feelings, only what this man could do for them.  Well we are now together and all I care about  is him and his health and I mean overall health.  We all need an outlet when in pain, as it is very depressing.   So as we walked the beach together, where we had in fact gone on dates, like I said so long ago, and began the search for goodies.

Well I can tell you it was accurate.  When it said a penny and we found lots of them, there it was 4 inches down just like the machine read.  I would just dig  the right amount of sand into our scoop  and I could hear the coin banging on the sides of the basket, telling me I had it!   We wore aprons we bought from George and I would slide it into a pocket so as to not loose it and continue walking just out of the reach of his swing.  When we would get to the end of our row we had decided on,  he would then walk in my footprints as I would lay tracks beside him, for the next row.  We had a system for sure, others had just gone through with their machines but had missed the coin, we didn’t.

I remember when he got a reading that said .50 cents, I looked up at him and said Ya Right!  Well sure enough there were 2 quarters in my basket, having dug down to the proper depth.  This machine was good.  I loved the day we found our first silver ring.  Oh it was my size, imagine that!  We continued to use this machine almost daily and I mean daily.  Winter, spring, summer and fall, we were out there.  We got a lot of comments on how the two of us worked as a team, him swinging and me digging the treasure, his machine said was just laying there, waiting to be found.  Many men said they wished their wives would go with them, I laughed and said  “Oh well, that’s why, I am just his girlfriend! ”  No I understood how they must have felt, having a hobby that the wives and kids could actually go with them and have fun doing and they chose to send them out alone.   I saw them watch us and  how excited we got when it was a ring and not a nickle.

We went everywhere with this machine.  From the northern coast in Maine to Cape Cod, we even took it to Virginia Beach when my Grandmother was not doing to good, so I could say goodbye.  We were on the beach, in a motel anyway, so in the early morning hours as well as late at night this is where we were.  We found a cool coin there on VA Beach, so it will be a memento of our trip, as well as treasure.

I remember calling George as we went to the Cape and found that they had made the beach a National Seashore, where we were not allowed to metal detect.  I asked him if he knew where we could go and he told us and then said “always do the edges of land off limits .”  I believe his words were “you can’t fence it all in”.  We found a ring that weekend as well.   Wow, we were starting to get good at this detecting stuff.  Slow and deliberate swings, with headphones on, puts him right on his target,  and of course I am always ready with the scoop, to see what he found!

So now instead of HIS addiction,   it is OURS.  He searches through the want ads for a machine for me, you know just a cheap one, easy to use, well he found an old Minelab a man had for sale 3 hours away(gas was not high like now) and we called and set up a time to go look at it. This man’s Dad had died and he was selling lots of his beloved treasures.  We picked up this Sovereign  with no books or paperwork, with a few other items and both of them were so happy.  When we got home he charged it up and off we went to the beach, we never turns down a chance to go.   Now remember I thought I would use this one but no Ron had to test it out first!  Well he never uses his Ultimate machine anymore, well that’s not true when we look in parking lots and the like he does because it is so easy to see if it is a penny or  quarter or jewelry.  It has so many programs he doesn’t even use and now with my trucking injuries I can not swing even this light one long enough to make it worth the trouble and the pain.  I say SELL IT!(We didn’t)

Well so now remember we have gone from his $49  Radio Shack one to DFX and now a used Minelab to guess what?  A NEW water machine.  Yes you know the one!  Another Minelab.  He uses in the lakes, ponds and streams in search of rings and he finds them!  This gets a lot of rest all winter but come warmer temps we hit the water for the newest FINDS, left by visitors!  All the while we keep track of the lost and found columns  and see if anyone is searching for what we have found.  That finishes the story when you can put owner back with their lost items.

OK so now we have what 4 machines and his addiction strikes again,  after that trip I wrote about, out to Stanton AZ, last year for the 3 day dig and our stay out there.  Well we really do need a machine to find the Gold Nuggets, but I thought a used Gold Bug out there in Wickenburg AZ at Miners Creek  would have fit the bill, but no, he had his heart once again set on a Minelab 3500.  We called George Streeter once again and tried to place an order but he had bad news for him it was not available, so he just had to get the next best thing!  Yes a 4000.  I sure hope he finds a lot of gold this winter in NC, GA and of course AZ.  Maybe just maybe his addiction is at it’s worst!  I have included a photo of him reading his new instruction booklet while setting his new machine up, now I will tell you this when it comes to digging up the gold pieces I will once again be right beside him looking for the pieces the old timers, out in the gold mine areas never found.  I will dream of quartz, laced with Gold, just like Ron will with this new machine, oh no I think I have caught his disease!

Well we can grow old together, happily chasing the nuggets and  me watching the smile on his face.

Part two on Gold Prospecting coming soon……………………………….

Rain Coming?

I was sure of it!

I  still grabbed the leash.

JT sat in front of me, she loves  this new thing

WALK.

We take off, even though the skies are looking crazy bad here in the mountains.

I put the phone and camera in a bag, I was certain we would be caught in a downpour.

We were not.

We reached the top of an enormous hill and it was still.

I could hear my heart beating from the steep climb

JT was having a blast chasing her stick.

I was having fun capturing some pretty shots of the sky and flowers, that waited for us at the top.

Life is GOOD, the trek back is all DOWNHILL!
