Back on the roof I went

It snowed and snowed and snowed some more. It was a day of pushing snow around the landscape, that had looked so warm the day before. The sun was supposed to show up yesterday and warm up all that wet snow and I knew what that meant. Yes back up onto the roof I would go. He put the heavy ladder up against the lowest roof line and held the ladder while I went up with cameras wrapped up in plastic bags and placed into a canvas bag, I also brought up the electrical wire draped over my good shoulder and prayed I made it to the top of the ladder with no slip ups. Once upon the roof I found out rather quickly how slippery it was and fell hard on my bad knee. Is that not the way when you have an injury?  Now I had to get real close to the edge as he handed me up not one but two shovels, our Christmas gift from Mom the electric Snow Shovel. I plugged the electric cord into the machine still not thinking it was right to run an electrical appliance in heavy wet snow, I dropped the other end down to him and prayed the wiring was safe and that some of my cheap boots had a little rubber in them.  Now with trashed knee and bad thumb on left hand and bad left shoulder I set out to see if I could do this alone while he used the roof rake on the front of the house, as reaching up hurts me more. When he had the whole roof over the kitchen and spare bedroom completed he passed me up this rake as well so I could do the loft bedroom across the way,  while I stood on the flat roof covered by rubber and 8″ of snow. No one wants us up there mostly us but when you have snow build up then rain or more snow is predicted it must come off or fear of a roof collapse is a certainty and insurance may not pay if they say you were negligent in not caring for your home.  Being poor and injured is no excuse. I pay over $400.00 a year to them,  to protect my home from things I can not but a roof and new batteries for fire alarms can be done so far by us. While I was clearing roof with electric machine it went so much faster than with a shovel, that is for sure. I had been dreading this after shoveling heavy wet snow the whole day before as he  cleared the rest of this place with the gas snow thrower.  We were so tired we went to bed early with our achy bodies. Today I had a game to watch so I went up early but it ended up taking me just one hour using this new tool and a shovel and roof rake,  I was surprised. I ended up falling two more time both down on that left knee. I have been walking on ice for two weeks ever so careful with no falls and today there were three. I was praying I would be able to climb the ladder down. Yes I am too old for this so is he but we have no other choice. So as I caught my breath and let my heart slow down I unwrapped the cameras and began to take in the beauty of our winter landscape. It really was pretty with all the snow-covered trees and almost 30 F. No sun was visible for which I was thankful.
Time to share a few shots with you. Enjoy our chilly landscape if you are having terrible heat where you live and I am so sorry for all of you living with horrible floods or draught. I am not alone when it comes to a winter landscape so many are looking out their windows at scenes such as these.

DSC_0164

The side of the home along the river we can not reach to clear it off but this is also where the sun will do its work and melt it over time.  One good thing about clearing the roof is we no longer will have horrible icicles or ice damming  occurring and causing water damage.

The wild birds flit to and from the forest to the feeders some scared by me up above them.

Many run to the Apple tree as I move about trying to capture the yard below.

The row of bushes I keep all along the southern edge of the upper yard is for the backyard birds to run into for cover as well.  Hawks have to usually throw themselves into my plantings to get one of my pretty little birds they usually leave hungry and have to go in search elsewhere for easy pickings.  You know me by now I shall never take a photo of death by any means.  I am just about the beauty and joy playing out around me.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We sure wish the yard was not so flooded, as this week all of this water will freeze solid, as a new cold front slips south and over our area.  Did I forget to tell you another 3 or 4 inches of snow is coming on Tuesday night and into Wednesday as the cold arrives.  We will not do the roof if that is all we get we need to rest our bones.

Looking out from the windows I sit in front of when I make pretty things no wonder I work in such BOLD COLORS!

:)

Thanks for stopping by I really appreciate all of your visits  as you can we pretty much have the dog and cat and wild birds and each other to keep from going stir crazy on snowy days!

Yes pretty for those of you not having to SHOVELI IT!  So pretty just to sit and chill looking at folks like me stuck in New England when their hearts are missing the south!

Remember this view?

The Apple Tree had all kinds of birds on it as the truck or snow thrower or me with my camera spooked them

I am not lying when I say I want YESTERDAY BACK!

Then again I want tomorrow to come too as our very handsome New England Patriots Quarterback will be in Denver to play against Manning.  Sure hope they don’t stop to get high well any higher than the Mile High, at the stadium.  GO PATS!!!!!

January Third In New England

I loaded the cameras charged batteries into each one and added them to the huge bag to keep them safe.

I put JT’s collar on her as I do each time we venture from the yard.

This time we climbed into the already warm truck as it was horrid out.

I needed to make a trip into Portsmouth area.  Newington actually was my first stop.

Have you heard about Habitat For Humanity I am sure you have, well they have a re-store there and as it goes to a good cause I thought I would start there for things I needed in the house.  Wow! I will be back and I hope enough people support them so it stays open for a very long time.  They had what I was looking for and even things I needed but had no idea till I got there so I did not come prepared with the measurements I would need.  See they sell windows and doors and lots of them for $5.00, $10 and $20 each!  I have a foggy plant/greenhouse type window beside my desk which is only good for light other than that it is useless after over 30+ years. It is time for a large window with screen or as my man suggested maybe we can make a door there and add a wooden porch just on the other side,  see I was not the only one who got excited here.  OH the possibilities!

He also found a small light weight snow thrower on wheels that we were promised worked great but to keep the receipt in case it didn’t. My Mom bought us one for the roof and though it is a Toro and it works nice to make paths for JT and the birds I would hate to leave it on the roof now this one he got is light and we can wrap in a small tarp and I bought a new Bright Green bungee cord to secure it to one of the 3 chimneys.  Actually 2 of them will never have smoke coming out of them and with coal stove still needing a plate before I use it safely you get the picture anywhere up there will work.  Yes there is snow up there again another 10 to 12 inches unless the wind blew it off.  It was 20 below last night and now at 9:30 AM it has climbed up top minus 5 F.

Now the one thing I went to this store to look for was a ceiling fan-light kit.  I figured as people remodel up here on the coast they would change those out too.  We found blades, and parts but not what I really wanted so as we headed out for him to by the snow tool he says “Look!”  There to my right was a shelf with eight complete fans.  Mine is 30 years old and seems to have been tightened as much as it can be and with these new bulbs we use when they get shaken they do not last long.  Well with so many to pick from I could not decide. So he did.  I paid for the fan and back out to the truck for JT who was waiting patiently and the truck was warm sitting in the sun. Now to gas up the truck as you see the prices were .08 cheaper per. gallon then 20 miles back home.

I was driving so I decided a detour of sorts would be nice after all I had not one camera but three!  We knew the beach had been battered at midnight and at noon as high tide arrived so I decided to take the scenic ride along the ocean so much for the savings at the gas pump.  JT loves the beach as much as us but I never told her we were going but her nose told her we were going someplace she loved. She was no longer laying across the rear seat she was sitting up and waiting!

As we got closer we saw the roads had been swamped with sea water as well as lots of rocks and boulders.  It had actually been closed for hours but now open I was still uncertain about continuing but with tide being now 3 hours before I forged onwards with a happy dog in the back seat with her head out the window.  Brrrr I did say it was horrid right.

I drove into the nasty slop as he cringed for his truck.  OH I heard him say “Now it will need to be washed.”  lol time to toughen up this Honda!

Now come the photos as you know I usually I try to add some eye candy to make up for the less than eloquent words.

Image

The clouds in the distance are from the storm that raged through leaving friends with 20+ inches of snow and us with 10 to 12.
You can see that the sea is still churning and whipping the surf into a frothy scene.  Nice for photos but not nice to be out here.  JT was in awe over the simplest of things.  Her beach was covered with frozen sea water which she spent the 5 min. while I shot these images smelling.

I swear I do not know how these gulls do this with fast food joints just across the marsh.

Image

Poor things left outside to bear the brunt of the most unbearable of weather.  I even saw some out riding on the waves and I thought my life was tough NOT!!!!

Here are a few more shots ,see if you can feel the cold day though one shot I added warmth too, can you tell which one?  All my shots are available now on cards and prints for your home and even on pillows and ties!

I was blustery and frigid but so worth the effort to make our way through the sloop of slushy sea water and rock that had come up and over onto our coastal route and washed more of our beautiful beaches away.

Now a photo of our place yesterday

I hope she will always enjoy what ever way we spend our day with her.  She will be eight on Mother’s Day and I want to always do things to see her filled with as much joy as she gives us.

Have a great weekend!

CHRISTMAS FLEW BY

Image

So Fast Indeed……. sorry lousy FAST photo, pretty color though :)

It was windy and cold so we stayed home.  JT was tired of staying in so I slid my boots on and wrapped a warm scarf across my head and face lol I must be getting old :) and when I grabbed the camera she ran off to get her Frisbee.  She is too smart but I must have told you that before.  Most of us are now old friends. I still didn’t have my coat on and she was running back and forth from the door to me in the kitchen.  Going on 8 but some days more like a two year old.

I took her out to the area that was clear of snow and where the least ice was on the bare ground. Last thing either us needs is an emergency room on Christmas morning.
Image

As you can see by the shadows it was a sunny day but very cold, too cold to go to walk the beach in Maine as we had planned.  Besides between VT and Maine over 100,000 were having Christmas with no power. Most people up here in the northeast are smart about having two sources of fuel to heat their places with.  We have propane that almost ran out before he showed up Christmas Eve at almost 6 PM and back up is nut coal, I love coal heat. We use propane for cooking too and now we have an electric water heater I have never had one of them before but with gas stove I can light the burner with a match and boil water in a pinch.

I needed to rest my shoulder after I threw her toy over and over so I asked her if she wanted to go see if we could find some beaver.  She led the way!
Image

So down to the rivers edge we went all the while making sure we did not slide in!
Image

See the tracks?  He pulled a section of the dam to save our land  we knew they would come but we are never quick enough to catch him in the act!
Image

Maybe if we follow these tracks we can catch him being a busy beaver seems by the vegetation here where the tracks lead to that he has chewed off most of my beautiful Forsythias.  They are tough and will grow back but I did not want them PRUNED!

Want to see how he gets here when he forgets his ice skates at his Beaver Hut?
Image

Swim out from under the ice climb across the land down to grab more of my beautiful bushes then back to his damn DAM!

I know your laughing right lol I am telling you I feel like Elmer Fudd and the rascally rabbit :)
They slip in from the water at my lower yards edge too
Image

And head right for my seriously “WEEPING WILLOW TREE ”  where JT is on it’s scent! she is such a good girl but she is a herder not a hunting dog.

Image
We hope you had a Wonderful Christmas.
We had our Christmas Ham with Baked Potato, Acorn Squash and Carrots to end the wonderful day spent together at home. No babies, no presents from a store but a warm home and hot meal what more could we ask for.  We have all we will ever need except for Peace On Earth so tonight after dessert, a simple brownie, when we close our eyes that is what we will hope the world can get as it’s gift from all of us.

With Love from me too you and a wish that you and your families travel safely so we can all await the New Year TOGETHER

December 11 early morning as the sun appears

Yes cold and I suppose pretty lol

Daily Prompt: Far from Home

Arizona

Arizona

Arizona is far from home for us.  We live in the Northeast and this is the Southwest.

For me,  a Trucker I always traveled far from home but for the most part I traveled within the United States with a dash into Canada now and then.

This trip was special as the man  I loved was not given much hope of a long life so we packed up the old Chevy van with camping  supplies and Gold Prospecting equipment we already had and the pup of course and headed west.  He had never been past the military base in Texas and that was so long ago for boot camp.  He flew in and out of there.  So this would be a journey for him but for me it would be like old times, well without the shifting.

We stayed out on BLM  land for 6 or 7 weeks till we had to come back for another visit with his doctor.  He did not want to go back home least of all for more tests.  I missed home and my kitty too much to hide my head in the sand of the desert.  We loaded up the old van and said our goodbyes to all we had met and I snapped a few more photos.

We came home to good news much to their amazement.  We could once again take out the map from my old trucking days and plan a trip far from home.

The Beach Is A Mess

Well last night we lost an hour of sleep due to our moving our clocks ahead in spring as we do here in New Hampshire for Daylight Savings Time.  I went to bed early after being at the beach.  Yes a perfect day in the mid 40’s.  It was a very Messy Beach and some lost their homes.  I am not sure if you caught it on your news as I never know if AP news will broadcast things that happen here, all over the world.

You know I will keep you up on the stories in the news throughout New England well at least when it comes to storms and flooding.

100_5977

JT and I walked along the shoreline for exercise and play while her daddy searched for treasure.  I left her Frisbee in the truck and grabbed a stick we keep for windy days.  I knew she would want to jump waves if we played with her favorite toy but today was not a day to be playing in the sea.

100_5931

The waves were strong and very powerful.  One after another slammed into the coastline.  Remember we go when the tide is heading out.  He only hunts low tides and I hunt the beaches when people have just left from a day of beach going and I never go down to the water with my machine.  This is winter though in New England and we had an enormous coastal storm.  It was very far out to sea but we still got nailed by it.  The beach had 3 days easy of seas with 20 foot plus seas.  It slammed into sea walls and busted them again.  Roads were closed due to rock and four feet of water in some sections where the beach breached an area where the state has determined  a pretty coastal route would be.  Mother Nature has a funny way of taking back what always should have been a place of give and take.  I never really think to add video to these lengthy posts but if you want to go to the web to look here are a few local news stations where you can see it in action.

http://www.wmur.com
http://www.necn.com

So as we walked the dog and I we met others who were shocked by what they saw had taken place with yet another storm.  The dunes which help to keep the water from homes and businesses were just about gone.  They were huge.  They were tall with pretty grasses holding them together.  They had been a part of our lives forever if you grew up in New England.  We were not allowed to ride dune buggies on them they were not for fun.  They were to protect us and a place for wild birds to make their nests.  Where would they go now?  Tax money spent over and over to fix the beach.  We have people who flock here from Canada and other parts of the world will they still come?  I am sad people once again lost their homes.  Yes they were silly to want to build by the sea but she is so beautiful on most days. Look at other beaches.  Huge hotel chains line the beach in Virginia, Florida too.  Everyone wants to get close to the sea.  These past thirty eight years I can remember,  spending so much time visiting them  have seen so much change.

100_5907

When sand was washed out to sea dunes collapsed  and drainage pipes show up I guess filthy storm drain water screened through all the sand was supposed to be OK for the oceans now with rain coming and it will fall for days where will it go besides straight into our ocean that feeds us. So very sad.

100_5913

Foundations showing up from buildings long ago gone.  I used to go to the one that stood here beside the sea.  The Frolics was famous for music, and  drinks.  Many years ago there had even been a huge swimming pool alongside this beach.  Salisbury Beach have you ever been.  It used to be a fun place to go not so much anymore well unless you are a dog with a great Mom and Dad.

100_5971

She really wants to run time to let her off leash for a few minutes while I show you some of what we saw at the beach that was a mess.

100_5909

100_5917

That is JT’s Dad hunting the beach

100_5972

100_5935

Last one for this post

See the metal stakes?

The dunes came out this far and a wooden fence was attached to these all along the shoreline to KEEP PEOPLE OFF THEM but no one told the Sea to  STAY AWAY.

Another Storm Brewing

100_5702

I took this photo yesterday along the river but facing out to sea.  It was beautiful over here, less wind then when JT and I tried to join her daddy on the ocean side, man was it cold and a very brisk wind.  Cold we can take but that constant wind is not good and I am bundled up, well  all but my weather-beaten face and to protect her from the harsh elements I have gone through my whole life,  we walked over here to take shelter from the storm that was brewing.

What a deceiving day.  It was so pretty to look at.  Made me what to shower and get dressed and head out with him.  I was down another two pounds on Tuesday weigh-in so I wanted to keep up the hard work.  Funny you see something working even if it causes pain I am the type that has always been tough and just pushed through it.  I am not saying it is smart , just saying more about who I am.

I have one month left before I leave and want to take in all my world has to offer.  I want to walk and spend time with them.  I will miss the three of them,  who share this home with me.  My son said he missed his pup but knowing she was with friends allowed him to take on the challenge himself so I will let go and trust.  JT loves me as much as Mike’s dog adores him but Mike does spend time during the day without his girl and JT is always beside me lol I am her person.  She watches over me and protects me even when I am not in danger so maybe after she gets over missing me for first few days she will become a dog again.   Something tells me we will be like that commercial that runs here,  of the lady coming back from war with her huge dog greeting her on the ground covering her with kisses, will also be played out here,  hell being on the floor meditating for 10 days 14 hours a day will have the ground being normal for me.  Wish me luck!  lol

OK back to the REAL STORM BREWING this morning I woke to a weather report saying maybe we would miss a big snowstorm Thank You for listening to my prayers this time now they say just three to four inches but wet snow this time.  JT loves catching snowballs she will be so happy.  Now I will show you a few photos from the river as the sea.  They are not my best and I am sorry I was freezing and will blame them on the wind!

Now look at the next pictures don’t them make it seem like it is just a beautiful day to SUNTAN

100_5707

Not a care in the world.

100_5706

A Loner lol no room for anyone else on this ones beach.

OK want to see some more again sorry shaking too much for really pretty ones but I am sure you will love them.

100_5680

Now the mighty Atlantic Ocean was really churning and so frothy.  The storm was still a twelve-hour ride away down in Virginia.   So I really thought we would be getting another NEMO like storm.  Looks can be deceiving right beautiful blue sky pretty colorful sea. BRRRRRRR

100_5662

Wind blown JT waits for me to throw a hefty stick to her.  No FRISBEE in these winds.

100_5660

Well you can see she is tiring of me and my photos time to go for a walk

Have a nice weekend

Cold Along The Coast

I wanted to go for a walk and it read 8 F here in the yard and it didn’t feel too bad,  after what it had been like for 3 days here  well below  0 F,  with nasty winds.  The kind that feel like they are cutting right into your skin.

So we bundled in layers all except for the poor dog.  I wish she didn’t hate coats.

It was a beautiful clear day a perfect one for a drive.  Once I turned towards the coast the roads were all ours maybe they knew better.

Put a coat on to check these out or you will catch a CHILL

100_5012

The Beach was all ours from 2 PM till 4 PM

100_4956

After I loaded the dog and my camera in the truck and warmed it up I went back to see if he was still OK and a pilot had placed a HUGE HEART up over the sea

it was beautiful but you will have to take my word for it unless I can find it on the web cam and show you. I was not going to run to the warm truck and go back out though now I am kicking myself  as it was so pretty.

It was THIS COLD!

100_5025

Wednesday it will be  50 F  time to go to the beach!

On February 2 ND and 3 RD  hundreds will jump in the Atlantic Ocean,  along  Hampton Beach,   in Hampton NH (there is a WEB CAM) they call it the Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics

I will get some photos of it if it is not as cold as today WHICH WAS NUTS!  We did have a nice walk and he did find treasure though brrrrr still trying to THAW!

She is so well-bred that she leaves an amazing piece of artwork, all along the beach,  as we make or way onto it

for a game of Frisbee.

Can you see her moves up above?

On and on she goes

Round and Round

Catching it

Dropping it at my feet and heading back out for another loop to get ready to catch it again.

I know some of you may tire of my talk about this pup but she really is what keeps us smiling day in and day out pain and all.

She is a beautiful artist,  well at least in our eyes.

Other dogs just come to PLAY she seems to have a method to her madness as do I.

So yes in January we still look for treasure he with a machine and me with a camera.

It was windy and cold but we bundled up and left at 10 AM and finished there by 3 PM

Tired and cold from all the exercise we got, which they say is Good For You, we headed home for dinner which I

still had to whip up.  While it cooked I made some Chi Tea and heated up the bag we have for sore muscles and

sat with JT and did her shoulder area. She was again hobbling hard makes me so sad to see her in the pain we are in.

I know she has a toenail that was injured and is growing out that I trim weekly(all of them actually)but it appears this

jump and leaping in the sand is sadly taking a toll on her since her injury this past summer.  Her and I will walk daily even if I do not

want to leave my warm home.  With weight off of us both we have got to feel a little less pain when out having a day of fun.

The whole time we played she never showed a sign of pain.  I did stop Frisbee play after 20 min. took her for her water then headed out

with a leash on her for a cool down and I mean cool down on this January day.  She walked and played with her stick with me still no sign. She is

very stoic when she is playing with her Mommy.  When we got home and I went into the kitchen and Ron said she was in some really bad pain. She

Came and sat with me in the kitchen as I cooked supper and made her supper.  She came to bed with me and the heating bean bag which I held on

her till she felt good enough to jump down to the floor on her dog bed.

This morning as I downloaded photos from our trip to the coast,  there were no signs of injury as she played and played with me. Walking later when

the sun has warmed the air some.  Have a great day!

Such a pretty but cold day here in New England.

It is January 5 TH and with a foot plus of snow still in the yard I suppose it is how it is supposed to be.

I will bite my tongue as Tuesday it will be FORTY!

Hoping the snow I did not get off the roof will run like a faucet then.  I am just now moving around without horrible pain.

We had 12″ of fully snow then the rains fell and it  got real heavy so we had to move it before the temps dropped and it turned to ice.   We are do a few more inches tomorrow and there is a full COLD MOON.  Stay warm

IS IT SPRING YET?

Wish We Had Headed West

100_1868

Well after shoveling and snow blowing all day I am missing the west. The Southwest actually.  The desert of AZ.Today where we live in NH, we got our first snowstorm,  for a total of just over a foot of snow.  So I am really missing the sunny, dry conditions of the desert southwest.

I know I would miss my birds,  what would they do without me?  One year when I took off for the west I cut open a 50 lb. bag of sunflower seeds and spread them out under my truck,  someone or something had some good meals for the few weeks we were gone.  Summer trips we take there are plenty of bugs to eat but in the dead of winter and them being used to having their meals here,  it was the least I could do for them , what was $25.

Two Beaches In One Day

100_3347

We arrived just after 8:00 AM

The surf was wild so we hung around to see if it would  start to head out enough to look for treasure

100_3384

She found a stick on the beach

HOW DOES SHE DO THAT?  I left the Frisbee in the truck as she has been hurting after playing at the beach lately so much for best laid plans lol but she was so happy to see the ocean I could not say NO.

Check out this wave action

100_3353

Is that a WAVE or a Wall heading towards us and where are the surfer dudes

100_3403

I was hoping to catch the sun out over the ocean but it never showed up

We climbed back in truck and took a ride two beaches further north

100_3451

Even without the sunshine we had an amazing day at the coast.

JT and I walked and walked slow and steady and my honey found a diamond ring with  a dark Blue stone all around the center stones very pretty and MY SIZE

100_3472

There are so many rules and regulations now that they are trying to spruce up this place

100_3422

Being the REBEL I am I broke a couple of these today

Come on though dead of winter not many souls out and NO DOGS OR DIGGING how can we treasure hunt with our cute little pup   well as long as these animals are allowed I will continue to break the rules

and then there is him

Well they say there will be another coastal storm brewing just off our shoreline,  so it is time to walk the edge, as the tide turns and heads out and look and see what it has left behind for us.  It will be sunny and in the 40’s what a perfect BEACH DAY   JT likes to walk me into the water so maybe I will even be barefoot.

Wise Old Pine

You know I love this one

Imagine the stories it could tell

Who has found their way to sit on a table under its outstretched branches

How many others thought it was worthy of a few photos

I have been here at the lake many times both in a boat and walking in the woods

This day I was there to see how much water was to be let out so I could prepare for the

flooding that would take place at home when they did and as I walked the different areas of

the shoreline I caught  sight of this tree through the others

Holding on tight to anything it can grab

Trees amaze me

The power they hold it is what I am after

The ability to hold on

Stay strong

Stand Tall

Reaching out with  my roots

Finding BALANCE

No matter the storms I brace myself for

I may adore the colors of Maples in the fall

The Willow in my yard

Pines such as this with so many stories

It continues to cling to the rocks, soil, earth

It is busted and broken but still here

Trees inspire me to keep on keeping on

She Had Such Beautiful Curls

100_5025

Not what you thought sorry

My place for pretty curls  has always been the sea  after a nasty ocean storm

Sun was out and curl after curl appeared

Wish I had had a tripod set up  or sat down for these

For tack sharp photos are what most of us are always after

Enjoy your day!

8 AM looking out at the river

As the sun rose and spread west

The light shone on all the work we have done

Yesterday I got some much needed rest

I still can not believe the damage one Beaver has done

I raked while he cut

He stacked while I trimmed trees

You could tell we didn’t spend much time sitting on our butt

So as I stood here with camera in hand the only word that came to mind was  gee

We really took the bull by the horns on this one

The water is down almost to where it should be

The Beaver have NOT WON

Guess who has been sleeping ME

New England Lighthouses

2 Lighthouses in 1 Stop!

Well I had to go into the city of Portsmouth, that is NH,  today for supplies to finish all the earrings I finished making yesterday.  I asked him to grab his detector and I got the dogs water thermos filled and her Frisbee and leash into the truck.  Portsmouth sits along a river that empties into the sea.  So we were all off to have a nice day.

My boyfriend had his coat on and JT she did too but I had two shirts on and a very light jacket and I have to say I froze.  JT on the other hand was in the water before I knew she would do it,  she is so smart I forget she is still a DOG !  So I moved our game of catch far enough from the edge so she would not sneak back in.

We met a nice man with a 8 month old  puppy who wanted to play with JT but if you can’t throw something to her she doesn’t want anything to do with you,  yes spoiled for sure.  We also met a woman who was there to walk around the parking lot over and over till she had 3 miles under her belt.  She loved JT.

Now it was cold and raw and yes I had her off leash to play catch and had bags to pick up after her , should I need to.   I did not think there would be a problem ,well as we placed her into the truck a really nice, local police officer, told us she could be there but on leash only and that he could detect the beach but only from high tide mark to the sea.  I love this place and will come again till May when she is no longer allowed but I will bring a stick and her leash  and walk around and around till her and I have 2 or more miles done.  The other beaches we go to allow her to play,  as she is better behaved than most children.

No tickets thankfully, just letting us know as we do not live near there.

All in all still a nice but COLD DAY…..brrrr

Riding Through NH and VT

It was a beautiful morning when we woke cold and frosty as you would think NH would be on Thanksgiving morning but roads were clear up through our White Mountains.  As we reached the border area of VT where Moore Dam sits the fog stated to rise as the sun warmed the air over the lake so pretty wish I was not on a mission and could have stayed to watch it to completion as it was the most beautiful of days with friends in their kitchen and yard talking and sharing a meal while giving thanks for what we have.

Another View of Rye Harbor

Lobster Boats

Brrr it was so cold this morning but my other half asked me to wake him by 5:00 AM so he could head over this way.  He wanted to metal detect during low tide.  I know I should have gone, if for no other reason than to watch the sunrise and get a few photos to share.  I was warm and toasty and looking forward to some coffee, which I would have to pass on since there are no public bathrooms open in this area at this time of the year.  Silly really when you see the amounts of residents and tourists that walk our shores each and every day. Snow, rain or sleet looks the same as a warm spring day. They flock here by the droves.  Rye is loved by dog owners as well as surfers.  See both are allowed here.

I see where the Northwest will get snow and rains, CA too.  Wy and ID will receive snow, just what they are looking forward to in Jackson Hole as their mountains are getting ready to open up their lifts.  We have mountains open for snowboarding and skiing over here in the Northeast as it has been so cold they have been putting down a nice base.  They say by Thursday, Thanksgiving, it will be BEAUTIFUL!  At our home it will be in the 50’s,  though we will share our meals where our pup JT was born, so it may be only in the 40’s there but that is still OK by me,  any day I do not have to shovel my way out the door is a Good Day!  Texas will enjoy temps in the 80’s oh how I wish I was in the BIG D!  I really must get into this winter mindset or I will never leave the house.  When JT and I went out to fill the feeders,  for our feathered friends,  she must have loved the icy frost on the pads of her paws  as she ran to her basketball and wanted us to have a game!  I was just in slippers and a nice warm robe so you know I said “Latter JT” and headed to the door!  We have a huge basket of nice clean as well as warm toys just inside the door for her to play with.

Have a great day or night everyone

Such a Pretty Tree

Seems I have done my share of blogs with TREES but this type I LOVE it is very much ALIVE! lol

Weeping Willow Pieces

We have so much work to do here in the lower yard, along the stream.  I hope we can get it taken care of before the snow stops us in our tracks.  We have to haul the pieces he cut for me to use as a place to step upon in the garden path areas, I think I want them to stay natural but not sure what kinds of bugs they will draw to the garden, not that the birds won’t love them.  Here is how many he got ready for me with just two of the trees limbs.

Wooden Slabs For The Garden

The ones close to the entrance the Beavers made, will be burned as they have dried out too much.

We have had one fire to get rid of all the small pieces  now to burn the chunks, on a calm evening.  I would have loved to do it tonight with the shooting stars above but I am very tired and do not feel like watching a fire in the cold, all night, even with the pretty stars above.

Don’t forget to LOOK UP

Beautiful November Day in Rye NH

Rye NH

November and boats still in the water in Rye NH

I couldn’t wait to share this beautiful day with each of you, as it is mid November and days such as this one will be far and few between.

I took it last week as we went to walk and metal detect the local beach, this time north of us. We have only 18 miles of coastline in NH and for the most part we do have access to our shore.

We have rocky areas but here and there we have sandy beaches to walk, suntan on, even fly kites.

In this stretch we have an Ice Cream stand, boatyard and a state park or two.  It is not built up with lots of businesses or homes though some of the homes along 1A are gorgeous there are still some built very modestly.  They are down to earth people who enjoy the shore on a bright warm summer day or in the middle of a nor’easter.  We really are hardy souls up this way.

This was November, Veterans Day and it was 70 degrees F.  Wow what a gift for those who are not looking forward to many months of cold and snow, me being one of them.  I will walk the beach this winter but I will bundle up and not stay out there too long, as JT doesn’t wear boats.

I will always have the camera with me but you knew that. I will try to show you another season of NH life.  You have seen all my pretty spring flowers, summer beach scenes and of course the fall color we are known for but winter in NH you will just have to see .

We are here for the FOUR SEASONS after all, me on the other hand wish I headed south with my Hummingbirds.

Peace and Love

Eunice

The Cutest Thing Caught My Eye

After working so hard on Willow I needed Yoga yesterday badly and decided to take the back roads home which only add one more mile to the trip.  You have seen my back road photos of this area if you follow my blog.  I remember when they brought the first 2 in and how beautiful they were.  I seem to adore cows.  Yesterday I saw the cutest thing, I had to stop and take a few photos to share with you.

One last shot of what had me smiling and made me pull over and shoot through the passenger side window

I needed a happy moment and as I turned the bend there it was.

We busted Beaver Dams The State busted 100 year old dam MR.Folsom built

Well  more and more of our yard was being taken way by the river rising so we set out today to see if we could do anything.

We found two spots slowing water badly and flooding whole area.  So we took a piece of one dam out to drop water quickly.

We had lots of rain soon to arrive and they are getting ready to drop the levels of the lake behind us for winter.  So we are

under the gun just to stop from being flooded out.  Chainsaw is next, as we are serious.  So we will tie ourselves off to

keep from being washed downstream.

See you soon
