On a cold day here in New England

The shoreline still calls out to us

Our trips here are usually never planned

We just know we must get out or sit at home and rust

JT is always ready for our trips to the shore

We never  have to tell her that is where we are going

She sees him get the metal detector out  and she goes right to the door

On this day she was sad no Frisbee with the way the winds were blowing

He swung his machine over the sand

He left a path of places he had dug and filled back in

Nothing ever seems to go as planned

With him though it usually ends with a grin

His collecting apron has many treasures within

Pull tabs, copper wire and piping and so many coins and rings

Want to know the reason for the grin

Well he is always happy when…

I have been blessed with three of them whom I have lost.. Damn Dam

100_2870

This has been here hiding in the woods since the 50’s

When you get close to the actual dam , it is posted  KEEP OUT

The woods before it were not

100_2871

Now there is an old part and then another concrete structure that is very long and very tall, all it’s for is to hold water in the lake so they can boat and they drain it over and over into this small tiny stream each year so they do not have to pull their docks up and out of the way.

This stream is the one that makes my southern boundary, which is being destroyed .  Year after year so then can keep their stationary DOCKS.

I never knew that this was 3 miles out in the woods behind my property and if it failed it would be catastrophic, we would all die down stream in minutes.

Such a pretty place but they do not want to follow regulations the state wants them to.  I thought I had problems.  Well next I will  find out how often it is checked,  as our state is cutting budgets and bridges are crumbling  what about DAMS?

Yes,  I worked my way around to a place where I could get a different view of a dam,  that could truly wipe us out downstream.  I am now scared as we have had a few earthquakes, a couple of tornadoes and many hurricanes and this sits 3 miles behind me

AN old photo of our yard when snow dumps.   Here today we shall get some they say but tomorrow it will MELT AWAY :)

For here today they are calling for some snow.  You know it won’t make me happy as I adore my sunshine filled days.  I do however loves running out to grab a shot before one foot prints or paw print disturbs the scene.
Only wish the Deer and Moose had been having their morning drink from our stream when I ran out to snap the photo.

No not really a competition for photographers,  this day was all about the dogs but him with his BIG CAMERA, didn’t capture THIS FACE!  I was far away using zoom on a day it was pouring out too boot.  While waiting for my little girl to compete, in her very first Toss and Catch competition I filled in hours of waiting with taking photos of  the most expert of dogs doing their thing but JT won 1st and 4th on her two tries,  yes we were so proud of her and the patience she showed that day was amazing! She laid and watched all that went before her.  What a special dog she is but have you ever heard of a Border Collie who sits still,  lol we still smile at the very thought of that rainy day.

Take your dog out sun or rain they don’t mind honest,  they just want to play with you.

Dad Bought Me Flowers

Dad Bought Me Flowers

Remember I told you about my best friend well here she  is with me on a very happy occasion,  Graduation Day.  I had been out of School since January and the last thing I wanted was to be apart of this ceremony.  It was June,  it was nice out and I had to go because Dad bought me this beautiful corsage.  Not sure if it was Dad or Mom taking this photo but I am sure they told me to SMILE!  I was always the kid in school looking out the window wishing I was outside.  I really did not like too many teachers in the 12 years I attended. Back in school in the 60’s and 70’s too much was happening OUT THERE to be STUCK IN THERE.
I did have a female teacher MS HILL in fourth grade now she was cool!  She was our science teacher and a Hippie I bet looking back on the times.  She had pretty long dark hair and I swear long grey streaks from the part down both sides of her head  maybe we made her prematurely grey.  I remember her outfits as do all the boys from my fourth grade class I am sure. Mini skirts were all the rage.  Our school had to add partitions to the fronts of the desks,  as they were not mini skirts they were micro mini’s!  It was the only class I saw the boys sit in the front two rows,  normally they raced to hide in back.  So now really why I loved my fourth grade Science class was because she loved science and it showed.  She taught us about the night-time sky and even had a field trip to a place in town where it was really dark.  We came with our families and all stretched out on our  blankets while MS Hill explained the stars and  what  each constellation was.   How many teachers have that much joy that they give up a night to spend laying on the grass with students.  I think of her often when I camp and spend so much time with my eyes looking up into the night sky.  Where I live there is no light pollution and I swear some nights there are billions of stars just over my head.  I wish I could find her to thank her for fourth grade as it was not till I went into ninth grade did I get that same feeling.  It was a new school and lots of new people I had never met.  There were so many classes to choose from and so many trades to try out.  We spent 6 or 8 weeks in each one to see if it was  match for us.  I wanted Auto Body bud sadly it was 1970 and girls were not allowed in trades full of men.  I wanted to sculpt cool outer shells for FAST CARS.  I had friends older that were always messing with their rides.  It is because of them and my Dad and all the time spent at the race track that I want to make them special.   I also loved Culinary Arts  we learned to chop, and dice as well as bake the most wonderful pastries   We learned how to waitress and even had our own restaurant with in the school to practice at for the real world.  I also took Drafting and Technical Illustrating oh and Electronics too!  It was Secretarial Sciences I ended up with as I loved Shorthand!  I was fast too. Then came tenth through twelfth grades and I could care less about going.  I had no choice Mom would remind me I would graduate if it was the last thing she would do!

So was it the lack of enthusiastic teachers I had or was there a problem with me?  Most teachers we had did not like children.  We had ones that would yell and scream and send you off to the office or ones who would go in the back room and drink we even had one flip out in class like he was on acid.  There was one cool teacher who taught us about the Mafia,  WHY?  Cool dude though he would go off with the young girls and they would all come back HIGH.  Yes these were different times in the 60’s and 70’s and I  for one was so happy to walk out in January of 1974 .  I just was not  happy having to attend graduation.  I know Mom and Dad were so proud of me but I always felt as if there was a whole world OUT THERE and I was MISSING IT!

I am so glad my best friend was there.   I kissed my parents good-bye and we set out to attend some Graduation Parties.

I have been out of school now for 38 years and would love to go to a   Art  School  or maybe just teach young girls to appreciate life, not to settle and to never stand for abuse, of any kind.

There is one thing I am sure of, if I taught they would listen.

Our Bus Stop

Me starting 1st Grade

Front row Middle girl yes that’s me.

Mom got me all dressed up and walked me to the top of the street.

The rest of the kids from the neighborhood where there too.  Not sure if my Mom was the only one to take photos but I can tell the sun was in my eyes.   Didn’t we all look like we were eager to attend. The real photo she should have concentrated on getting was the last day I attended SCHOOL,  now that was the most important day!

My best friend was in the back row standing next to a boy.  She moved here from the deep south Georgia and Alabama .  We were best of friends instantly.  We did everything together. She would come places with my family like to Zoos and Parks and I would go with her family to the Ocean.  The place I always went with them to,  is still my very favorite section even though storms have destroyed so much of what was so beautiful.

We had one TV,  a Black and White for years.  We also got to play after supper,  under the one street light, which happened to be right in front of our house. We played kickball and dodge ball life was good.

Out of all the years Cathy and I  attended school together we were only in one class together,  eighth grade math.  By then we liked boys though neither of us were allowed to date.  Boys would come over and sit around and listen to music with us but no dating.

When we went to high school we parted ways she went to the local high school in town and took college courses

while I took a test to be accepted to the new School in town.  Vocational/Technical High School that had students from five towns attending.  It was a beautiful school and I met so many wonderful people and you know most of our small class of 1974 is on my Facebook Friend list.  I think this speaks volumes of the times and the families.  We came from hard working,  Blue collar workers with one car,  3 kids and a dog and no divorces.

I never asked if we were rich or poor I never went without supper unless I refused to eat what Mom cooked.  Remember the dog, he would eat ANYTHING, he was our best friend at the dinner table till Mom caught on and tied him outside while we ate. We tried to always finish supper no mater how much we hated Lima Bean Soup so we could have dessert remember she was a great baker, her cakes and pastries were the best tasting.

We were allowed to go out after breakfast and not return till lunch you see we lived on a dead-end road with just 15 houses on it and all our other friends lived in the other houses with their brothers and sisters.  We were never inside unless it was raining. We always played at each others houses.  The Mother’s we always home. I can only remember two times I actually had a babysitter well till I turned eleven and became one.  I babysit my brothers, I had 3 of them and then babysit for a family with 8 children and a family with two of the sweetest little girls.  I made enough money babysitting and  always bought family gifts at Christmas but put mine and my brothers names on them for our parents.

So many things happened on this dead-end street where I grew up.  I loved this place so much I never wanted to grow up. It was a place where many memories, that will last a lifetime, were made.

TRUCKING the last years

Trucking

My Last Rig

It has been a very long time since I looked at this photo.  I used to miss this truck so much, then it was the girl  I was, who had gone missing.

Let me tell you some background since a few have asked about the days I spent behind the wheel of an 18 Wheeler(this one has 22 ) .

So much happened before I became a trucker, guess you would surmise that,  as young girls really did not drive tractor-trailer trucks  in the mid to late 70’s,  well not in New England especially.

So do I begin here with this time period in the photo or go from the start?

I think I will do this blog from just before  the time I bought her till I said goodbye,  as there really is an awful lot for this  story.

I was divorced in 1995  and as part of the settlement of OUR THINGS   I had a choice to make.  Let’s see he had already just got rid of the truck he drove,  he actually gave it back to the bank with less than a year to pay on it.  He was drinking so heavy daily and I could not drive  TWO TRUCKS so he did what he did.  I insisted we split the days up with  him driving my rig(not this one) Monday,Wednesday and Friday which would leave me Tuesday and Thursday and most Saturdays.  At the time I was hauling rubbish back and forth from Roxbury,  MA to different landfills and trash to energy plants here in New England.

Things were getting worse living with him.  I never thought they could get any worse and there came a point when I had the police remove him from the home.  I had finally had too much.  Lost so much. I signed a restraining order  and told them he could come for the rig, with police.

It took a year before the final day in front of the judge.  All I wanted was the house, 4 dogs and my 68 Camaro and my Ford Pickup Truck.  He could take EVERYTHING ELSE!

In the time I sent him away,  I found a job driving for a local company.  I was now driving a Dump Truck.  Worked 10 hours a day and finally had a life but  not much money compared to owning my own rig but I was happy, really happy.  I actually looked forward to doing my hair and climbing into that Orange Mack daily.

When the judges final decree was sent he gave me everything I wanted. The house, dogs and vehicles.  Now how could I pay the house payment on a weekly paycheck, as an employee,  I really couldn’t.

My Dad knew I worked for a seasonal company so he gave me an old 1974  Mack to drive.  He paid for the registration and fuel and insurance and I paid him back weekly.   I worked that truck for probably 9  months and even put some cash away.  The Mack had a lot of issues being so old and finally she just could not go on the road anymore so if I was to truck I had to go shopping and quick!

I had a job to haul containers of beer from the pier in Boston or trailers from the rail yards in Alston.  I poured through books and found a place in CT that sold used trucks.  I saw the tractor in the photo above and thought she would be a good enough rig for me to begin again.  The man who owned the place was impressed with my knowledge of trucks see he threw questions at me to check, I was a female.  I had to prove to him I owed nobody anything after the divorce except my mortgage company and that the home was mine and not the ex-husbands.  So he put a paper plate on it and told me to take it up to NH and drive it haul a few loads and show it to my Dad to make sure it would be a good choice for me, and then bring him the decree so he could see what the judge had written.

I went straight to my parents home from CT which was just under 2 hours away and showed them what it looked like and then Dad hopped into the driver’s seat and off we went for a test drive  just as I had when I was 18 in a car he brought home for me.  He liked it and then we switched seats and I drove.  It was the first time I had ever taken my Dad with me in a rig, Mom had been several times but now it was time to show my Dad how over 2 mil. miles had made me into an awesome though fearless driver.  He loved the ride!   He said it looked like a solid truck for what I was hauling and that I drove it like a professional.   I could not be happier.  He asked if I needed any money and I told him no you see it was $1,000.00 down and a payment each month for 2 years and she would be mine.   That was 1996,  late in the year.

I hauled the beer and goods for maybe a year then I got antsy I wanted to haul the heavy loads again.  This truck did not have a double frame or a wet system.   I traded my Camaro for a Wet System which consisted of a pump and a tank which  held Hydraulic  fluid  and hoses and fittings.  This poor truck with her big Cummings Motor was going to set out to do the impossible,  just as it owner.

I hooked up with old friends and started hauling Bark  Mulch from a place in Maine all the way to Cape Cod and places in between.  I loved the work and the places they sent me as so many others would hit everything but the lottery in the customers yards that they started to request the Blonde Girl who was a great driver!  Everywhere I went I got smiles and waves from people.  See I was an oddity still and we were now in the late 90’s.

Bark Mulch was seasonal so I had to find steady work I had not only a home to pay for but a truck.  I hooked up with another friend in the rubbish business and started to haul four loads a day for him 6 days a week.   I now had Sunday’s to play with the dogs in the yard while the truck was washed and oiled changed for the next week of work.

I hauled garbage till it just became too expensive to keep tires on it with going in and out of a landfills  and hooked up with a Spring Water company.  It was now 1998 winter again and this would be my first experience hauling a tanker down off the top of a mountain with snow and ice.  I was scared,  very scared about stopping at that stop sin at the bottom, why do they do that anyway!

I worked that whole winter of 1998 and then in 1999 the real fun began.  I never got sleep I just napped in between loads. I hauled 3 to 4 loads of water, weighing out at 103,000 pounds back and forth to bottling companies, you see the country was getting ready for Y2K, which would happen  in the  year 2000, when the world would change as we knew it.  We hauled thousands of gallons of water,  as there were 10 other drivers doing the same thing for the company I worked for.  Stock piled water filled these places with fear about what would come of  the computers of our world and all the machines run by them.

As we all know we were really fine,  doom and gloom never came to be.  They would have a slow down in production so it was time for a much-needed vacation!

I parked this rig, tanker attached and locked up safe and sound and headed to FL where else would a girl go who loves the sea.  I took 3 dogs as one had passed away and the cat and boyfriend at the time and headed to his Aunts place for a little rest.  It was while I was there we decided it was where I wanted to be.  Get rid of the house go back home and get my rig and start a new life where things were no so hard on me or the equipment.  I could find work anywhere.  So we left the dogs and cat there with his Aunt and I was heartbroken as I headed north but I would be back in 2 weeks with everything I wanted to start all over again with.

We made it back  as planned I left the house for mortgage company to deal with as they refused to take the ex’s name off and set about finding my own place to call home.

So  I spent  most days in the beginning  when we got down to Florida getting caught up on sleep and sun tanning and playing with  my dogs, who were now 10.    I finally got the bug to really drive again so I hooked up with a company to haul empty cans to bottling companies along the east coast of Florida,  you see I loved the Gulf Coast .  My rig was getting a much deserved rest as well,  loads were so light I had to keep checking in the review mirrors  to make sure I still had the trailer hooked to it.   Life was GOOD,  it really was the best. I was so very happy, finally, the year was 2000.

Well around August I received mail from the company holding the loan on my home.  It seems they didn’t want it either and had given it to me free and clear only stipulation was I had to live in it.  I was shocked to say the least.  They asked me to go back to the home I loved so much in the woods of NH and lock the doors as I had left it cleaned out and spotless with doors unlocked for potential buyers.  Now what go back, start again I didn’t want to.  I liked it here in Florida  but some of my dogs were buried there,  it was home.  At this point I was tired of making decisions really on my own as the boyfriend at the time was younger than me and OK with me doing it all. Yes I am now sadly aware that was who I was and nothing to do with him.

I decided I would go home alone with him and the pets but no rig.  It was an old truck now,  pretty and in great shape but not for another season of hard,  nasty weather.  I placed a For Sale sign in the back window and within days a man approached me and asked if he could check it out which he did and bought it with CASH.   I had lots of money to pay his Aunt’s bills up to date, pay my brother cash I owed him  and fuel for the van and enough to live on upon getting back to NH where I would also have to put electric on, fill the propane and hook up TV and internet.

We packed everything back into a U Haul,  kissed everyone good-bye.

We were coming home.

I miss that truck and the freedom she gave me out on the roads but you see I finally get that there is more than one chapter in this woman’s life.

Time to LIVE IT!

We met new people and even another dog

It was me who had to tell the cute policeman I was sorry

Seems she is not allowed to be a dog at this place we had found

Such a beautiful spot even if it was very raw out today

Next time we are over this way I will be better behaved

It was a beautiful morning when we woke cold and frosty as you would think NH would be on Thanksgiving morning but roads were clear up through our White Mountains.  As we reached the border area of VT where Moore Dam sits the fog stated to rise as the sun warmed the air over the lake so pretty wish I was not on a mission and could have stayed to watch it to completion as it was the most beautiful of days with friends in their kitchen and yard talking and sharing a meal while giving thanks for what we have.

Good Morning

Just want to pop in before the week gets crazy for all of you baking and cooking up a storm or running off to catch a plane.  I wanted to thank each and every one of you for following and or liking my space here with you.  This is a  wonderful time of the year. A time to give THANKS for all we have.  Times are really tough not only here in the US but sadly around this world.  I pray daily for this world to live in Peace and Harmony.

I hope you will make memories here in the states with your family and friends.  That you travel safely to and from your homes.

You see it  is coming upon the day my life changed with one rear-end collision.

I had spent Thanksgiving at my parents home with my brother and his family also attending.  We left early as I had to drive a dump truck the following day/  A girl has to work you know.  So I did I trucked probably 13 loads that day for the boss and then met up with my boyfriend at the time and his boss.  They asked if I wanted to go to the Casino.  I really did not want to go I had been driving all day in heavy equipment which can beat you up pretty badly.  Seems they had discussed going for a few hours long before I showed up.  Men!  Well neither of them had rights to drive a car so in the end I said I would go for a few hours, two-hour trip down maybe five hours there figuring that would be enough time for them to lose all their cash, me I love games of chance but work so hard for my money and am so responsible that I take just $50.  This night we left at 8:00 PM from his boss’s home and headed south to CT.  We were going to Foxwoods.    We made good time as there really was no traffic due to it being a holiday weekend.  I went in with them and watched for a little while then I placed $20 into a One Armed Bandit machine,  SLOTS  I like the lights flashing and the sounds that come from them but not how they suck you into feeding them more and more hard-earned money.  So I played that $20 for all she was worth till it was gone then told the men I was going to get some sleep out in our conversion van.  I slept till his boss who was also tired wanted in to sleep as well.  I fell back to sleep till about 4 AM and wanted to head north so I went in search of the boyfriend.  I found him glued to a Poker Machine and I said we wanted to head home.  He answered “but I’m up $500!”  I laughed and said “good as we could use the extra cash for heating and Christmas”.  Not happy but not having a license he had no choice but to cash out and make his way with me home.  The dogs would need to go out by the time we got back.  We had 3 of them.

Now we are all in the van and getting ready to leave the parking area and I  make plans to go to the coffee shop a DD at the next light.  While sitting in our new van at a Red light we were rear-ended by a Casino Tour Bus doing 35 mph or more.  I went unconscious upon impact his boss’s eardrum blew as he was laying down on back bench seat and boyfriend was pinned for a moment in the passenger side.  No air bags deployed who knew they did not when you are hit from behind.  Every seat that was being used by us snapped upon impact.  No none of us had seat belts on as we were just going into a local coffee shop for a cup for the ride home.  I would have broken left leg and two thigh bones had I k=not been thrown to the rear of the van.  My left calf is still HUGE after 12 years.  Knee is still torn to pieces not to say a thing about my back.  The two of them who stayed in their seats healed over time but I am left with injuries and memories of a night just the day after showing many thanks.

It was 4 years later the doctors sat me down and said I would probably never drive a Big Rig again and on my Birthday.  Such a very sad day for me. I tear up still with just going back to that day.

So now 12 years later I am alive and very thankful to be. So many things in my life would be so different had that accident not occurred I know that now but it was still a long 12 years.

So really pay attention while out there not only to your driving but put down the phone and pay attention my parents almost lost me that day and it was the bus driver on the phone.

No pretty photo for this post as there really was none.

I have made up for it this past 6 months with all of you.  Thanks for being there when I needed you the most.

All others were Brown or void of leaves so this tree sitting in the sun on a beautiful Saturday morning was a treat for ME

Such a Pretty Tree

Seems I have done my share of blogs with TREES but this type I LOVE it is very much ALIVE! lol

Weeping Willow

She really is weeping as her days are now numbered.  The Beavers started to attack her bark and left plenty of gashes to tell me they were going to finish her off.  This tress was a small beauty when I mover her in 1988 here it is 2012 and will be gone if our bodies hold up, by 2013.  I really need to be the one to take her down if left to the beavers it may take out the bedroom and us if we are in the bed.  We do not have thousands to pay a tree company so we will do it a little at a time.  I felt like we won in a way because one section they were gnawing on is now down, they will know I have had enough.  I know they have to survive as well but our loss of a home or possible life or that of pets we love will have us working hard to take it down safely.  I will use the willow pieces as stepping-stones in the yard, well till they become one with the landscape once again.  She did her best to suck up flood waters over and over and though she looks gnarly and battered for all the storms she withstood  her insides were beautifully healthy.  The squirrels have lived up in the nook for years as winter approaches I do not know where they will go but sadly it is out of our hands she has to go on our terms to keep our home safe from ruin.  There will be more grass to mow  but I will plant a new Willow in her place and wrap her tender bark with metal fencing then a pretty fence for the outside world to see and I will fill it with plants and flowers the wildlife will love for cover and food, it is the best I can do.

I have been on a  journey looking for peace and happiness.  Each day I get more of the old me back.  Each day I laugh and smile more.

Things like the two photos shown above have been out there in the world for a very long time it seems I am just more open to see them.

I love that this shows I have turned a corner.  I am here now not back then. I am finally LIVING.

Fall Decorations I See

Some people pull out all the stops when it comes to celebrating Halloween

You already know it is my favorite holiday

This small town in Maine seemed to have so many places  decked out in their finest to go along with the beautiful foliage

Being in my towns garden club I hope we can do this kind of thing around town to get people to slow down and enjoy life

Saturday night we will have a Pumpkin Stroll in town and our club will look for new members and pick the winners

of our raffle prizes.  Hope I win the TV!  We need members and town support to get all we want done around town   DONE!

There were so many decorations and so rainy the small camera was not great at capturing it all perfectly but this post is

about  celebrating Autumn and Halloween

last year

Last year the backyard was nice but just not PERFECT.  This year

for me has been so much better from the start!

The Spider plant has more than tripled in size, to the point

she no longer can hang , well not unless I use a CHAIN.  The lawn

with just enough rain is so green, and soft to walk on.  I never water the

lawn or plants  that are not in pots(those get watered  each day or every other)

the perennials also do not get extra water.  I grow plants raised here for the range of temps and

four different seasons. They for the most part are tough survivors, like us.

The storms have taken our pretty little spot for shade and

tore it apart not once but twice.   My boyfriend was a welder for years and with

welding rods and some DUCK TAPE we have gotten another year

of it.  Thankfully as this is where I doing beading outside as well as wire wrapping

all the while playing with JT and taking photos of back yard visitors who do not mind us

sitting out there.

Next year I have a lot plans for this place we call home.

There will be many  plants grown from seed this winter, for plants to go into

a new English Garden as well as all plants that will feed us,  throughout the year.

I was given glass from an old greenhouse a friend had no use for and boyfriend will build

me a greenhouse  to move them out  into even it there is snow still on the ground.  The sun is

amazing on this piece of land from sunrise through sunset. We have a windmill and 1 solar panel

so far to help with filling the needs for electricity even if it is for a small FREE amount for now we

can build on it little by little.

I will try to leave enough room in the greenhouse to grow some pretty plants for the garden club

here in town I am secretary of.  Hangers ready for Mother’s Day plant sale would be so nice to work towards.

I have to say this time last year I hurt so bad and emotionally hurt more, on most days but just a year later

so much has changed.  All it took was me putting one foot in front of the other and doing just one day at a time.

BAD BEAVERS

You are looking at what used to be my roadway.  There used to be a bridge that crossed this tiny stream and the area at the end of this road,  had a home on the left.  The bridge lifted up 15 feet,  as the water rose that high. Now I was beginning  to wonder why all this water was filling our yard. I asked a town worker to locate the reason for this continued flooding.  They came back and said they found a huge beaver dam,  on the lot of land where  a friends home had gone under water three times.  They never said they had a damn over there, which cost them their home.

Well with three feet of water in my home enough was enough.  I contacted the new land owners and they were adamant I too would lose my home and end up selling it to them for conservation type land  but not really.  They told me the government had given them money to buy homes and lands to help with flooding.  Flooding what flooding this was because the place was over run by nasty large rodents, called BEAVER.  I loaded the gun and waited till they came for some of my trees.  We took a total of 6 Beavers  and then I set about looking for people, neighbors who also abutted this huge dam to see if I could put on waders to pull half of it out to release the water from my yard as well as my home.  Most of his land was under water and he said he would help.  Two days later my beautiful lawn that was now trying to dry out was covered with nasty stuff as well as snakes.

Crazy that this was allowed to go on for as long as it did.  All it took was me and my boyfriend and a neighbor and his teenage son to stop the insanity.  This group then went on to place gates on each of these conservation type pieces of land.  Signs, Signs Everywhere a Sign  all over the trees , I thought they were into saving the land and trees, wildlife too!  This has always been  an upland game area.   Deer, Turkey and Ruffed Grouse. NOT BEAVER PONDS.  Why don’t I stop talking for now and let you see what one dam on my tiny stream did.

Above is where the bridge lifted  and was taken away

Right behind where my Lilacs are along side the house right below the bedroom window.

I am so happy I raised the yard to level it for a garden and pool.  This is where the water is just below us.

As we let water out of the dam area boy did it start to drop fast.  It was right up against this side of the house.

You have seen my yard,  in  the post Chores Done, so you know there was a lawn there

Where I am standing taking this photo , it was under 10 feet or more of water in first photo,   see how I take care of a rodent problem.

I worked 16 to 18 hours every day , not just five. I drove a rig for over 2 million miles and was not going to lose my

home to beavers or a group backed by our government,  to buy up homes from people who loved living here along

a pretty little river and stream.  The turkeys love it here as do we.  Something you love is worth fighting for.

In this shot she is almost back within her banks, soon the Heron will return to fish.

Bedroom with a view

For as long as I have been in this place I call home, this Great Blue Heron has been overseeing the river, along our property.

Some days he is in the air, talking to others.  Most days though he sits here and waits for something good to swim by.

I watch from the bedroom as I wake each day.  When they built this bungalow  in the 1950’s and added an addition, just before I bought it

in 1988, they placed the windows in such a way that as you roll over and open your eyes,  you see out across the lawn, past the willow tree

straight to the river’s edge.   I can watch this beautiful  creature fish, deer browse and mink scoot along the edge.  All

the turkeys head down to the river, after eating what I have scattered for them outside the living room door as well.   Ground Hogs are here

too  and  occasionally I see a very large Raccoon,  working the river .

It seems man is not the only one who is drawn to the water.  I have seen baby ducks born here playing in this river,  the same as children have.

My property was under water for the best part of 10 years till my neighbors sold out to a land trust(I will leave that story for another day as I

must cross my T’s and dot my I’s) I found out a huge dam was over on some of their property and they refused to let me go in to save my home.

So I was able to outsmart them,  did you doubt that,  lol,  I went to the other property owner and asked if I could pull the damn to save my home and he said

“I will help you.”  So we spent two days releasing the water that had ruined my yard and 10 of his 17 areas were under water.  The beavers have moved

along and seem to be someone elses problem for now,  but we are always ready if need be,  to pull it apart again.  Now you know from my post

Chores Done,  why I was so happy to share how pretty she looks now.

Today I placed another gallon of paint on, over the Turquoise,  it is starting to look brand new and LOVED once again.  With all the flooding, so

much damage had been done and me disabled, it has been tough to even think about trying to save my home.  Water back within her banks for 2 years now

and yoga classes to bring me peace of mind, it was time.

I do love the Heron,  sitting  along the rivers edge,  he went through his own hell with all the  flooding, he could not walk the river for his food so he stayed on the

other side of the beaver dam but you can see he likes this place, me too.

As he searched for treasure in and around the boulders and gravel I found GOLD in a

friendship with Marie.

There may have been 3 vehicles parked in the shade along this stretch of route 112

but the woman in both made their way over to say hello and to say h to JT.

This part of the story will focus on Marie.  She said she was from MA in an area I used to go to once a

day, in my Big Rig.

I was siting  in a chair throwing sticks or a frisbee to JT  and told her about my back and she said she

knew my pain.

In fact today was the first time she had left the home with her husband for fun in 8 years.  She had been

hurt in an accident at work, boy could we relate.

We talked and talked and tears flowed from both of us.

We knew each others pain.

She saw me as strong . It was not till we spoke she knew I too, was broken.

She has to go through exactly what I had gone through for 10 years for her ,now

8. years of hell.   I told her to hang on it would soon be over.

It is what they do to hard workers who get hurt and go after them for damages.

They want us to give up and God knows I came close more than once.

She has to fight for disability.  I told her how.  I asked her to please just not to give up.

After hugging her and telling her it would be OK my mate saw us crying and said

“Do you know each other?” he was smiling as this happens so much he is used to it.

Marie told him I was so special and he smiled again and said he knew.  He also told her

this happens to me a lot now that  I have started to really LIVE my life again.  I am glad

it is with him.

So I let Marie know how to reach me.  I do not know if she will  but one thing I am sure of

is the fact she left that river’s edge a little stronger inside.  She needed to meet someone who had gone

through the pain and depression and had come out the other side.  Yes battered and bruised but no

longer busted and broken.   I refused the drugs finally and am finally Living and Lovin   ( the name of my

Yard Sale Today

Image

I never say this but found it on the WEB  :)

I will be at a yard sale today and possibly tomorrow if we do not find wonderful homes for all these lovely, used items.

I will bring my jewelry to see if there maybe any interest in the crowd today..I love beading but people are so different you just never know what will make them say “I have to have that!”.

I try to remind myself that what I make is pretty and unique but in the back of my head if they do not purchase something, I really am thinking I will make something better next time.  Why do we do that?  I know the economy is bad and the last thing people think of is a new piece of bling when they are loosing their homes to their banks.  I must go easy on myself and not fall into the trap of just giving them away.  My bracelets take 4 to 8 hrs depending on the stich I use.  I use tiny seed beads, most people can not even see the holes in them.

I do Herringbone,Tubular Peyote,Flat Peyote, Even Count as well as Odd Count.  I make Eyeglass lanyards in either Sprial Stich or my favorite Kumihimo.  This  one I do has 8 bobbins I fill with cords pre-loaded with beautiful beads.  Then you get into a rythem and before your eyes this beautiful cord starts to appear.  I sell these too and make them with pretty glass beads but the time and cost of supplies plus something for my time always seems to be too much for those who check them out.  I will work on a piece at yard sale so they can watch and see what actually goes into each piece I make.  This will keep me from eatting fried dough too!

Hope you all have a wonderful day out there in your world !

I will post photos tonight, no time now. Just about 6AM I better get ready!

Peace

Children of the world

Where I stand is for the children of the world.

I think we should always keep them safe.
I think we should teach them what we know.
I think they have their own voice and it should be heard.
I think they matter.
This little girl matters to me.
I love her so much, it is plain to see.
My Mom was passing down what she knows, to her Great Granddaughter, even though her grandson has no contact
with his Grandmother. Life is hard, families apart more often than
as one.
Family life for so many is not the same as when I was a child.
I will never regret the time I spent with my great niece and what I have taught her.
Children have ALWAYS been the FUTURE, put in LOVE and
receive LOVE back.

A New Day

A new day dawns with hopes of being in a better place.

Wounds whether self inflicted or made by others, need to heal.

With the start of each and every day, I give thanks for all I have.

I need peace.

I know LOVE.

I want to be whole once again.

With the start of each new day

I get closer to who it is I am searching for.

She is inside of me.

Struggling to make her appearance.

OH but she will

as long as  each new day is allowed to dawn.

2011 is behind us

2011 Winds Down

This past year had  some very special moments but some really trying ones as well.  This really is what life is all about isn’t it?

It reminds me to be thankful, as well as grateful we made it through 2011.

After the winter we had last year we decided to camp along a river for the better part of three months.  Though we got our site(s) late  and had to move to 3 different sites, in doing so we met some wonderful people. One such couple from so far away, will always be missed though we will stay in touch,  it is still not the same as in person.

I got really sick as did our pup.  I am so much better now and down 50 +/- lbs from the end of last year, Thank you WW.  JT was covered with fleas and became so allergic she lost a lot of her fur, and chewed herself so very raw, this with Frontline Plus on monthly, needless to say that is not what she now uses.  All animals should be as loved as our little ones are.

I did not put a garden in this year at home, unless you can count my flowers, but I always had something growing just outside of our RVs door.  I did miss all my goodies and my little hummingbirds but on my 2 days home each week they got fresh sugar-water.  I missed watching my broods of wild turkeys, that call this place home, hatch and did not see them daily till Sept so they did not really get to know us like the years before.

We had some horrible weather come through our area this year as our summer was coming to an end, Irene blew through and took roads, bridges and businesses and homes away.  Today VT is opening one of their roads that they lost back in August, crazy weather in US as well as other parts of this earth.

I lost one of my dearest buddies this October on what would have been my Dad’s birthday.  Now two of the most important men in my life, are gone.   I try to remember the great times I had with both to ease my pain but it just never seems to stop the tears for too long.  I will miss you Dad and Cris forever.  You both taught me many, wonderful things.

I took so many beautiful photos, now to figure out what to do with them. I also had a little story published in a local weatherman’s latest book on New England weather.  I have written three other stories that have gone into a local Treasure Hunting newsletter too.  Did I say I LOVE SPELL CHECK lol.  Sometimes the brain works faster than these old hands of mine.

A very special little boy made an appearance on Thanksgiving day, really much too soon, just 925 oz,  little William Avi, latest update: he was  3 lbs for Christmas.  Can hardly wait till he can go home with his Mom and Dad.

I added some of my pieces of jewelry into a local place here Diddles and Doodads and it is run by a very wonderful lady, please stop in to meet her and see all the beautiful items she has on display, in her beautiful home.

I know we can not really  know what tomorrow will bring, never mind next year, but all I want is PEACE.  Seems simple enough to me, lol

Please drive safely this weekend, you are IMPORTANT.

See you all next year

Why do we love watching Squirrels?

For the last two nights, while laying in bed, I hear noises in the wall.
Really?  After all the work done on this house, after so many of the outside world living within, I thought they were ALL gone!

Let me tell you a quick little story about living next to a river and close to the forest.

I had a couple over back in 2000(remember it well)we were having munchies and a night of card playing.
I hear a ruckus up in the bedroom/loft area but not wanting to interrupt the fun time, I dismiss it.  Then the CAT enters the picture, on the tail of a Flying Squirrel..  Never saw one before, never face to face for sure, but there it is, this brown critter with big eyes, clinging to the beam beside our table, where we are all sitting.  I was so embarrassed,  the cat was angry and the company is first floored, guess they never saw one before either.  My boyfriend Dave(at the time) gets up to get the broom to “get it” yes to kill it!  After all it is a RODENT,   The male who was playing cards with us that night yells “No don’t kill it!”  So he takes over with the squirrel,  Dave knocks it down, he catches it in a box and runs outside with it to SET IT FREE.  He was successful it was free to once again enter the home and have young.

I was too injured to climb up onto the roof and see how it was that they were coming in but when new roof was put on I knew all too well the path that had been used for years.

Now to this week I hear the noises all too familiar and ask Ron to look for a hole on the river side of the house.  Sure enough he locates it, waits a day and a half then climbs a ladder to put METAL over the area with a hole in it.  He waited till late afternoon thinking what ever was in the walls would be out hunting well I am here to tell you NO they were not!.

I went upstairs early to watch the rest of my show and I hear  animals going nuts in the wall behind the headboard.  I bang on the walls hoping to scare them out forgetting there is  NO WAY OUT!  So I thought.

The cat is pacing, the dog is telling me to get up but I slept through the fact there were 3 wild flying squirrels over my head and running back and forth pooping EVERYWHERE.

It was 3:40 AM when I decided to listen to the dog thinking she had to go out,  this was her normal time for waking me but something was different this morning, stuff all over the floor cats howling, so I reach for switch on wall and turn on the light to see these creatures beside my hand looking at ME.  Well I ducked and head downstairs I put both animals out and then yelled for the Great White Hunter to wake up and Look UP!

Half asleep he is now on a mission, CO2, pellets, rifle and handgun Oh Lord here we go, With headlamp on and broom to scare them from hiding spots, he gets them moving and pooping I am sure all over the room.  He takes aim, 1 down now to get what we thought was the LAST ONE!  It was hiding under bed and now it is gone too!  I get a bag and dust pan to pick them up and dispense with, filthy rodents!

Now it is 4:45 Ron is sleeping again, HOW CAN HE,  lol and I see one come from kitchen fireplace heading toward the stove and spare bedroom.  I wake him again and he locates this one fast,  up in window, can’t shoot window Eunice will get mad,  so he knocks it down and shoots the 3rd one.  Cat goes upstairs to sleep Ron curls up on the couch and JT joins him and I sit watch,  this time I have the pistol beside my early morning coffee.

Some day I will tell you some of the other wildlife stories from my time here.  Years ago in Roxbury where I drove tractor trailers for a living they jokingly called me Ellie May damn them! lol

More to come!
