It snowed and snowed and snowed some more. It was a day of pushing snow around the landscape, that had looked so warm the day before. The sun was supposed to show up yesterday and warm up all that wet snow and I knew what that meant. Yes back up onto the roof I would go. He put the heavy ladder up against the lowest roof line and held the ladder while I went up with cameras wrapped up in plastic bags and placed into a canvas bag, I also brought up the electrical wire draped over my good shoulder and prayed I made it to the top of the ladder with no slip ups. Once upon the roof I found out rather quickly how slippery it was and fell hard on my bad knee. Is that not the way when you have an injury? Now I had to get real close to the edge as he handed me up not one but two shovels, our Christmas gift from Mom the electric Snow Shovel. I plugged the electric cord into the machine still not thinking it was right to run an electrical appliance in heavy wet snow, I dropped the other end down to him and prayed the wiring was safe and that some of my cheap boots had a little rubber in them. Now with trashed knee and bad thumb on left hand and bad left shoulder I set out to see if I could do this alone while he used the roof rake on the front of the house, as reaching up hurts me more. When he had the whole roof over the kitchen and spare bedroom completed he passed me up this rake as well so I could do the loft bedroom across the way, while I stood on the flat roof covered by rubber and 8″ of snow. No one wants us up there mostly us but when you have snow build up then rain or more snow is predicted it must come off or fear of a roof collapse is a certainty and insurance may not pay if they say you were negligent in not caring for your home. Being poor and injured is no excuse. I pay over $400.00 a year to them, to protect my home from things I can not but a roof and new batteries for fire alarms can be done so far by us. While I was clearing roof with electric machine it went so much faster than with a shovel, that is for sure. I had been dreading this after shoveling heavy wet snow the whole day before as he cleared the rest of this place with the gas snow thrower. We were so tired we went to bed early with our achy bodies. Today I had a game to watch so I went up early but it ended up taking me just one hour using this new tool and a shovel and roof rake, I was surprised. I ended up falling two more time both down on that left knee. I have been walking on ice for two weeks ever so careful with no falls and today there were three. I was praying I would be able to climb the ladder down. Yes I am too old for this so is he but we have no other choice. So as I caught my breath and let my heart slow down I unwrapped the cameras and began to take in the beauty of our winter landscape. It really was pretty with all the snow-covered trees and almost 30 F. No sun was visible for which I was thankful.
Time to share a few shots with you. Enjoy our chilly landscape if you are having terrible heat where you live and I am so sorry for all of you living with horrible floods or draught. I am not alone when it comes to a winter landscape so many are looking out their windows at scenes such as these.
The side of the home along the river we can not reach to clear it off but this is also where the sun will do its work and melt it over time. One good thing about clearing the roof is we no longer will have horrible icicles or ice damming occurring and causing water damage.
The row of bushes I keep all along the southern edge of the upper yard is for the backyard birds to run into for cover as well. Hawks have to usually throw themselves into my plantings to get one of my pretty little birds they usually leave hungry and have to go in search elsewhere for easy pickings. You know me by now I shall never take a photo of death by any means. I am just about the beauty and joy playing out around me.
We sure wish the yard was not so flooded, as this week all of this water will freeze solid, as a new cold front slips south and over our area. Did I forget to tell you another 3 or 4 inches of snow is coming on Tuesday night and into Wednesday as the cold arrives. We will not do the roof if that is all we get we need to rest our bones.
Looking out from the windows I sit in front of when I make pretty things no wonder I work in such BOLD COLORS!
Thanks for stopping by I really appreciate all of your visits as you can we pretty much have the dog and cat and wild birds and each other to keep from going stir crazy on snowy days!
Yes pretty for those of you not having to SHOVELI IT! So pretty just to sit and chill looking at folks like me stuck in New England when their hearts are missing the south!
Remember this view?
This one too
Welcome to my world today! Just 24 hours later. The saying here goes “Don’t like the weather, wait a minute!”
Now once again a winter wonderland
Look what he got to move for it’s maiden voyage
Messing around while I had my feet up waiting to go out for round 3
The Apple Tree had all kinds of birds on it as the truck or snow thrower or me with my camera spooked them
I am not lying when I say I want YESTERDAY BACK!
Then again I want tomorrow to come too as our very handsome New England Patriots Quarterback will be in Denver to play against Manning. Sure hope they don’t stop to get high well any higher than the Mile High, at the stadium. GO PATS!!!!!
New England Gull on a frozen granite wall along the Atlantic Ocean in New Hampshire.
I loaded the cameras charged batteries into each one and added them to the huge bag to keep them safe.
I put JT’s collar on her as I do each time we venture from the yard.
This time we climbed into the already warm truck as it was horrid out.
I needed to make a trip into Portsmouth area. Newington actually was my first stop.
Have you heard about Habitat For Humanity I am sure you have, well they have a re-store there and as it goes to a good cause I thought I would start there for things I needed in the house. Wow! I will be back and I hope enough people support them so it stays open for a very long time. They had what I was looking for and even things I needed but had no idea till I got there so I did not come prepared with the measurements I would need. See they sell windows and doors and lots of them for $5.00, $10 and $20 each! I have a foggy plant/greenhouse type window beside my desk which is only good for light other than that it is useless after over 30+ years. It is time for a large window with screen or as my man suggested maybe we can make a door there and add a wooden porch just on the other side, see I was not the only one who got excited here. OH the possibilities!
He also found a small light weight snow thrower on wheels that we were promised worked great but to keep the receipt in case it didn’t. My Mom bought us one for the roof and though it is a Toro and it works nice to make paths for JT and the birds I would hate to leave it on the roof now this one he got is light and we can wrap in a small tarp and I bought a new Bright Green bungee cord to secure it to one of the 3 chimneys. Actually 2 of them will never have smoke coming out of them and with coal stove still needing a plate before I use it safely you get the picture anywhere up there will work. Yes there is snow up there again another 10 to 12 inches unless the wind blew it off. It was 20 below last night and now at 9:30 AM it has climbed up top minus 5 F.
Now the one thing I went to this store to look for was a ceiling fan-light kit. I figured as people remodel up here on the coast they would change those out too. We found blades, and parts but not what I really wanted so as we headed out for him to by the snow tool he says “Look!” There to my right was a shelf with eight complete fans. Mine is 30 years old and seems to have been tightened as much as it can be and with these new bulbs we use when they get shaken they do not last long. Well with so many to pick from I could not decide. So he did. I paid for the fan and back out to the truck for JT who was waiting patiently and the truck was warm sitting in the sun. Now to gas up the truck as you see the prices were .08 cheaper per. gallon then 20 miles back home.
I was driving so I decided a detour of sorts would be nice after all I had not one camera but three! We knew the beach had been battered at midnight and at noon as high tide arrived so I decided to take the scenic ride along the ocean so much for the savings at the gas pump. JT loves the beach as much as us but I never told her we were going but her nose told her we were going someplace she loved. She was no longer laying across the rear seat she was sitting up and waiting!
As we got closer we saw the roads had been swamped with sea water as well as lots of rocks and boulders. It had actually been closed for hours but now open I was still uncertain about continuing but with tide being now 3 hours before I forged onwards with a happy dog in the back seat with her head out the window. Brrrr I did say it was horrid right.
I drove into the nasty slop as he cringed for his truck. OH I heard him say “Now it will need to be washed.” lol time to toughen up this Honda!
Now come the photos as you know I usually I try to add some eye candy to make up for the less than eloquent words.
The clouds in the distance are from the storm that raged through leaving friends with 20+ inches of snow and us with 10 to 12.
You can see that the sea is still churning and whipping the surf into a frothy scene. Nice for photos but not nice to be out here. JT was in awe over the simplest of things. Her beach was covered with frozen sea water which she spent the 5 min. while I shot these images smelling.
I swear I do not know how these gulls do this with fast food joints just across the marsh.
Poor things left outside to bear the brunt of the most unbearable of weather. I even saw some out riding on the waves and I thought my life was tough NOT!!!!
Here are a few more shots ,see if you can feel the cold day though one shot I added warmth too, can you tell which one? All my shots are available now on cards and prints for your home and even on pillows and ties!
Trying to shake off the cold poor thing lousy photo as I was walking up to the car I was trying to capture them and not fall.
I was blustery and frigid but so worth the effort to make our way through the sloop of slushy sea water and rock that had come up and over onto our coastal route and washed more of our beautiful beaches away.
I hope she will always enjoy what ever way we spend our day with her. She will be eight on Mother’s Day and I want to always do things to see her filled with as much joy as she gives us.
Have a great weekend!
Yes cold and I suppose pretty lol
Well we took Mom for a ride and lunch to celebrate her upcoming 78th birthday which she will not be home for so we grabbed her while we could and went on in search for some pretty color far away.
We saw a farm with a pretty Maple Tree not quite at full color
As you can see a lot of green some orange and very little Red yet. Who knew this would be our fate today.
Just a little along a lake we found in western Massachusetts.
OMG I found RED, lol
A spot for us to reflect upon life and birthdays and the desire for peace for ALL
No this is not upside down just the reflections of the pretty trees that lined the lake shore.
We had company too not sure you can pick him out as he hunted the edges and trying to get away from me.
So in the end we had a nice lunch at a very old diner in Gardner and saw a few pretty leaves and a Great Blue Heron as we wished her a very Happy Birthday!
Hope you have a wonderful long weekend to all of the followers here in the states at we celebrate Columbus Day. It is our biggest influx of tourist’s in search of color I just hope they will not be disappointed in what we have to offer for it is all about getting out and appreciating Columbus and the trip he took to this new land.
It was early Friday and we thought for sure there would be no rain if we went far enough north. We packed the dogs water and food for her and some fruit and sandwich fixings in case we got hungry as well. We have not seen rain for two weeks and are due to have some and yesterday a few light showers passed through the White Mountains of New Hampshire but it did nothing to dampen our day as we are determined New Englander’s(wait is that a real word, lol?)
We headed up the highway till we hit the notch and the travelled across Route 112 West in search of a spot to get some panning done in the river and swing the metal detectors. JT had her agenda as well simply just to PLAY!
We dropped her daddy off at the river while I took a familiar ride to most of you,
though this time the color was not so brilliant I was either a few days late or maybe early. It was still a nice 20 mile ride to get a hot cup of coffee and for me and my girl to have some alone time. She loves riding shotgun with me two chicks in a black truck yes you know we turn heads lol.
Some of you already know I have a shoulder that has been hurting badly and having just had an injection by the surgeon I was up to getting out and since I can not see him till Halloween why not celebrate by spending time out in nature with my two favorites.
Now for a few shots of color I captured along the way.
This shot I took beside me while I was at the gas station fueling up.
Summer and Fall play Tug O War
No fall color to steal the beauty of the covered bridge this year.
JT and I may not have found a lot of color along the stream but we found a little Zen and her daddy found some color in his pan!
Clearly some of the trees were more like me holding on to Summer for all it is worth. Fall may be pretty to look at but next comes cold and snow and that is not welcome in my world yet. Poor folks in WY and SD just got hammered with a nasty blizzard and all-weather marches our way thankfully it is 2,000 miles away.
We left the river and climbed up to capture a pretty view which you can find even if the weather is not perfect.
As we traveled southeast I stopped to capture a few shots of a lake and to let the dog stretch her legs it had been a long day of riding and walking so I will add a few more photos of the lake as I end this post and get back to catching up on as many of yours as I can with the sun showing up I maybe pulled away again .
Have a great weekend!
I forgot. Yesterday was a day I listed to some Janis Joplin tunes as it was the day she died so long ago and as I traveled down 16 S I saw a place for Old Hippies and I needed some perfume, that I have worn as my signature scent since the late 60′s, yes Patchouli Oil lol “old hippies” (well I was just a tad too young to be a real one thankfully or I may not have made it either) I am told by the young girl inside come in for it all the time. This was the decoration outside their door. Now what a way to end a perfect trip for COLOR!
While reading your blogs I realized how much I missed mine. Each day I want to write and share but usually nothing comes. Since April it has been very hard. Seems before it was easy to express myself and now being cleared of all the CLUTTER within me leaves me wondering if I really have much to say.
I am so happy poor but very, very happy. I am at peace and seems I had posts so full of sadness and despair oh yes Joy as well if you looked deeper within it was there but really I was just not whole.
I still see things others will never get and it is OK maybe they are not meant to.
Ok on with today’s RARE BLOG really from me NOT A RE-BLOG he he READY?
So I have not seen much of my Mom since my return from retreat and she has not ben well so I made it a point when I got my check this month to take the $30 in gas right out and go spend sometime with her after I was done with Shoulder PT appointment. Ron and JT came with me as even she is feeling more like herself never will something from China be consumed in my home by ANY OF US!
So I get to Mom’s and she is doubled over unable to stand up straight I tell her to use the cane more to hold herself up though her hands are bad and I understand why she doesn’t. She has had RA for 40 years or better been crippled then better now her spine is worsening as she has lost so much of her height. She now has 2 cracked or broken vertebrae she will never tell me as too many years I was broken so she tries to toughen it out. She actually said she was ready to go. What the hell does that mean? Ready to go she is healthy as an ox except for the pain and she refuses anything but Tylenol and we all know the dangers of that drug.
So I had gone down with the full intent to scrub floors, clean refrigerator, scrub the stove things you ought to stand to do and need to do for more than a minute. I went around the property of this home I grew up in and admired all the flowers she grew. She had some beauties. I went out to the front yard and saw a section of the garden beds I had done so much work on my whole adult life now looking so pitiful. I asked what she wanted to do about it as she insists she loves her home and doesn’t want to sell and move in with one of us or her own apartment with little she would have to do but care for herself. She says “I can’t do it anymore”. I have known this for a long time hell I can not do what I used to and I am 20 years younger. So I get her garden cart, shovel, rake and a bucket with soil and proceed to dig every last Iris and Lily mixed in with weeds and grass out of the front bed. I took each one and trimmed back the green growth and cleaned the roots and set them aside. I worked for 2 hours on them alone I did that sitting on the same front stairs as I had when I was a little girl all the while watching Mom insisting on sitting outside with me and JT she sat in a plastic lawn chair. Same kind I did my retreat in not that comfortable.
After I had them done I moved on to trim a bush them I really trimmed it pretty much till it was just above the soil as there was so much dead branches soon she would lose them anyway. As I worked on my feet she tried to play a little with JT. It was warm so the dog did not mind resting a lot.
I got to this beautiful bush and knew if it was up to me to add a fresh coat of paint to the front of this house I could not have shrubbery against it so again I began a hard prune taking out many dead branches. Well This is usually covered in bees and yes it was a beauty but so out of control. I came across something that saddened me. Seems our world is so full of filth and debris and so many slobs our little birds have learned to cope the best they can. See?
So much plastic trash was a part of this poor Mother Bird’s nest
I swear it looked as if it were a home in the projects it made me very sad.
Now wait till you see what her front yard looks like now.
We had not seen that last window for years she will have to pull the blinds down now till she decides if she wants to let it grow back or if we can make this place pretty with something easy to care for. I am not getting any younger either and with injuries even worse. Ron is in no better health he has lost so much weight and muscle and he is diabetic to boot.
All was not worrisome at Mom’s some of the day was delightful which is how I will end this post UPBEAT!
Mom painted this rock years ago and we thought the bees thought her artwork was real but then a guy I went to school with thought maybe they were just wanting to grab hold so they could get a drink. I told her to place a shallow dish with rock in it so birds could have their baths again
Remember she loves flowers like me so here are a few I took after I did all the work so they are not that good but still pretty
Thanks for coming to Mom’s with me.
She would love all of you. Each one is so very special to me XO
As all the student leaving for college left their families behind to strike it out on their own they left their parents sad and some in tears.
Empty nests happen elsewhere
I now have not one but two in the Lilac out front just outside the kitchen window.
I watched the male Cardinal teaching them how to fly.
Offering chirps of encouragement. Cheering them on.
There was one last baby not wanting to go.
I was also sad to see them out of their warm little spot in front of my window.
Washing dishes would not be the same.
You see they had three clutches of eggs this year but this will be it till next year.
I will add the photos but sorry I could not get too close and the glass with this Nikon was not going to let me get all I wanted to show you but know this the Mom was beside me in a tree and having heard and seen me each and every day speaking to her through the window they stopped their noise and sat silently still as I snapped two quick photos to share with you all.
They will not travel far just to the feeders in our back yard so the Bear will have to go elsewhere
Isn’t it too little to go I wanted them to stay just a longer
It was so quiet when I did dishes today.
I swear today they were so intent on getting inside as many flowers as they could sometimes sharing each bloom with one or two others no wonder the petals end up looking so beaten up.
Off to search for its own bloom.
Got in close to one without getting stung. This is actually a tree covered with these sweet-smelling blooms. Right now it is in a containers not sure where to plant it with winter on its way. Maybe my bedroom hehe
Close-up of a Spider plant baby. I have four that love summer as much as me. After the chance of last frost I set them out side for sun and rains. I will take them in once I hear weather is making a turn for the worse or cover with a comforter from the bed yes all who call this place home are taken care of lol
I am telling you Bees I have Butterflies NOT SO MUCH
I love how Sunflowers such as this one form. I love the structure of them. No matter how tall they get they stay up and turn their pretty faces and follow the sun from when it comes up on the east side of my garden all the way till Sunset. Nature has always amazed me lol yes I know I am STRANGE :) but that’s why you LOVE ME hehehe
Please forgive these photos as I am learning 2 new cameras by trial and error
How is this for a BRIGHT BEAUTY I used the HDR setting for this one.
Each year I end up with a gift.
This is the Morning Glory that has grown within my garden and has 3 blooms that close as the day gets longer if you sleep in you would miss this beauty. I swear it is amazing to look at this one. I can not get the beautiful light shining from within to simmer down so I can show you the inside. Sorry past my capabilities.
Here it is from a few more angles. The gift I see each morning with JT and the cat and my second cup of coffee.
One last view
Well I have a couple of more blogs to write some photos to share on Facebook and check to see if I had any sales.
I am very tired JT has been sick and it is wearing heavy on my heart so I will let you go to enjoy your Friday night and here in the states to enjoy your long holiday weekend let us pray we will not go to war. I am so sorry for the loss of life in the country of Syria but who would come to flatten our White House should the government here ever do that to us. NO ONE. I am so tired of WAR I only want Peace and Joy and Laughter. I will bow my head in prayer to stop this craziness. Meditate too as well as turn off the News for it seems so little is good these days.
Stay safe everyone.
You know I love my wildlife and you know I feed my birds and I have spoken about this Bear before and since I moved my computer out into the quiet kitchen area of the house and am no longer set up overlooking the lower yard and river. I miss a lot.
This morning I slept in till 6 AM as I went to bed real late. I put the coffee pot on and filled up my containers with fresh sunflower Seed to take out to fill the feeders so they could have breakfast while I read your blogs. I have been leaving the feeders empty to not entice this big black bear and any others with it from destroying the set up my darling made for me to feed them all. We recycled and used an old umbrella fabric removed and holes drilled in ends to hang feeders and suet from oh and a BELL since he destroyed it a couple of weeks ago so I can tell when he is out they’re messing with it so I can get PHOTOS after all it is what I DO right.
Well it was raining and JT grabbed her Frisbee and me the seed and off we went out to less than 100 feet from the back door maybe 60. I toss her the toy off she goes to catch then go potty and right back she comes to me for another throw. All the feeders full and us wet after 20 more throws we head back in. My coffee smelt great poured a cup and brought up the new reader to find all of you.
I am enjoying the coffee and reading and laughing and crying as some were real touching when the dog starts going NUTS!
Barking and carrying on. He was still asleep but he yelled BEAR. I go to grab my camera and both are plugged in and charging. I grabbed the Easy Share and I get into the living room where there was only a screen between us and the bag of seed and him and the feeders full of seed. He broke one arm but when JT scared him and our human voices he started to beat feet out of here. Thankfully. Then he stopped and start to turn to look our way and I screamed “Get out of Here” all the while JT going nuts and the poor cat who was outside took off and was not seen for 6 hours.
So here is the only shot I got.
Not sure if you can make him out but this is when he stopped and turned and looked at me and the dog seeming to not be worried about us much. I may end up not feeding the birds there goes my Dragonflies
I swear I was just saying life was so CHILL lol then heart beating what would I do if he came through the screen wanting the whole bag of seed
I shall load the shotgun and have it ready with the camera and fire over its head with hopes of making him change his address.
OK I am officially no longer bored
I really thought when I joined just two years back this gardening thing around our little town would be so easy. You all see I know how to grow some real beauties so what’s the problem?
Well wanting something really badly, sadly will not make it happen. It takes members. Men woman and children if need be! You need a town who actually cares how they present themselves to the world. Sadly we were on a very slippery slope on that part. Four sickening murders in just the time I have been here, 27 years. All hitting the papers here and abroad.
This dream of mine to join was long overdue. I wanted our small little town to care for one another. Be a community. Like the one I grew up in. Sadly day in and day out I see the world around me not as it used to be. Have people changed that much? Do they no longer want what is best for their children. Are they so busy working to see there are more important things in life than 3 cars, a boat, 4 wheelers, motorcycles? Toys all toys with no substance. No family dinners as both parents work outside their home to pay for all the trips to the mall, no one sews clothes for their children anymore and if they do they are looked down upon and bullied.
So who was I to dream so big for my little town? Well Eunice of course and you know what a wise woman told me if I wanted to do something do it myself for I was the only one I could count on boy was she right in the beginning I placed my cell phone number up on a billboard in front of our town haul and waited for the phone to ring off the hook! I had the town place an Ad on TV(towns private station)looking for members again adding my private number. There were just three of us. President of club walked out in a huff her best friend stayed as did I and the treasurer. Now of us three I am the only one home and was nominated to be the secretary oh joy I wanted to get my hands dirty not make phone calls!
Another lady who works nights joined and made it a point to come to our once a month meetings on a Monday night the others came as well. We made plans for plant sales, yard sales too! You need money to make a town such as ours pretty and not ugly as was portrayed over and over in the news, in books and around the world in the papers.
Well We still have those who stayed in club from a year ago and just recently welcomed another woman. She is a stay at home Mom and we love that she is young, loves to garden and can do more than us older crippled members.
I ordered business cards and gave each of us 50 to start with. Pass them around to local businesses they do business with. I went knocking on doors as I am home all day. I had a few positive meetings for things we can do down the road.
I received a wonderful email from our AD on TV who asked if he could donate some plants for our upcoming plant sales. I told him we would love to accept his gracious gift and made plans for another member to help me. The first load Ron and JT came with me as this was a stranger and wanted to make sure everything was on the level him not me I am too trusting. We went and filled the whole bed of the pickup truck and there were many we could not get that trip. I had one of the full-time workers go with me and filled the truck again! Now we were a real garden club! At the next meeting we set a plan in motion. We would all meet on a Sunday morning at 8 AM and tear out a whole intersection with our hand tools what were we thinking!
We showed up with rakes, shovels trash bags and water. Plants too, a whole pickup truck load, poor Ron no one else has a truck and you know me I am on a mission!
We pulled out the plants we could save and then we tore out grass, and bagged it to compost. It was now noon and time to take a break three of us said we would meet back there at 6 PM to start placing the plants back into the rotten soil after we added some sphagnum to lighten it up with. A friend of mine from town stopped to ask when I had gotten such a green thumb he knew me as only a female who owned and drover her own rig. He had his own excavating company. He asked if I needed anything and I said “Are you sure?” yes he was sure so I asked for some nice rich organic soil. Dream big I say! He came back with his own dump truck and dropped us off a nice pile of loam. We wanted a raised bed to keep plants protected from drivers and plows wait you know about the snow we get.
So here is when I will share with you a project done by first 4 then three woman from 8 AM till 8 PM with a few hour break in between for a cold drink and something to eat.
Hope you can see how it evolved into what it is now.
We had moved the pretty Urn here but sadly it was doing nothing for this corner downtown. Before the grass came up it looked pretty for a few days.
When the two ladies met back at 6 PM they were happy to see Paul’s gift of rich soil.
We raked it down and shaped it. Two of them lifted this heavy Urn up into the middle of the planting then we laid fabric down to keep weds in check.
We unloaded the truck and placed plants in a design the best we could and set about knocking them from their pots and cutting holes in the fabric where they would go into the new soil. This is back-breaking work when you have a wrecked back to start with!
Two of us stayed till dark as you can see the lights across the way have come on.
We were tired both of us in our mid 50′s. She with a desk job me with no job.
I came by the next day to check on our work
We needed to mulch this area to complete the look, hold down the weeds and fabric as well. Thankfully as we wrapped up the night before the rains began to fall gently upon our new planting.
JT and I took 3 half pick up truck loads of mulch I had saved in my yard all winter and added it to this space. The parade would be days away and I wanted it to be complete for Memorial Day.
Now some of you have seen these photos before others have not
Now I will show you some shots of what we have been up to all this summer no wonder I hurt so bad!
I went to a business the next town over who makes bark mulch, I used to love hauling mulch with my rig to all the local garden centers I miss my truck. Well back to the story I asked if we could get the wholesale price as we were a tiny garden club next town over and really needed to find the best deal. She says to me IS FREE GOOD? You already know by this post Thank You! Only deal was they gave me a sign to promote their business well I was all alone to I said yes the deal was made and each and every corner will look the same and only cost Ron gas money to truck it back and forth!
One of the members bought two 40 in long cedar window boxes we filled and put on our granite bridge downtown so our color draws you through town.
Ok the last photo in my story is of a corner Lowe’s gifted us plants for last year but needed to fit in with the rest of what we had recently done so Ron dropped of 21 bags I think he said it was and I spread it to finish off the intersection closest to my home.
It really makes a difference
So yes a group of driven residents can make a difference little by little one corner at a time our little town is feeling more loved.
So what do you think is it worth our effort?
I hope with each planting we do there will be another member joining our team and another business climbing on board with us as you know I am not afraid to ask help from one out-of-town!
Thanks for reading this very long post had I known I would have done it in many segments
Peace and Love to ALL of YOU
On my head and everything else here in New England.
Not discouraging these Ants that are all about the sweetness within this Peony bud.
Tons of Lilacs this year but all this rain weighs them down and turns than brown.
Icelandic Poppy also covered in raindrops
We have a little water in the river lined by so much glorious GREEN it has been real low since they closed the dam to get the big lake ready for boating, camping and fishing.
Can you see her above?
This is the view out my Kitchen window. I want to put a huge umbrella up so she is not soaked all night poor creatures who have to deal with all that weather throws at them.
So let’s see I did a new thing with beads yesterday and was gone from home for almost 6 hours boy I have not done that since I went away. Felt great!
Wait till I show you what I did!
One of the woman in the Gardening Club with me was home and we were given over 40 potted perennials and she came with me this morning to lad them into the truck. Big help and they are gorgeous!

Leaves have begun to unfurl and show their beauty to those who wait for any sign.
Flowers in hanging baskets become all the rage
Even the beautiful Forsythia that lines this property had visitors! I love this beautiful, very tiny golden bug. I do love Macro for what shows up that I never saw .
Miss you all
We had our Garden Club plant sale yesterday wish it had been a sell out.
Painted almost the whole front side of our house today, ouch too much.
It has been so gorgeous here like a present for what we had to deal with this past winter.
I hope you are seeing better weather. We go to Boston tomorrow and for the first time I am uneasy about traveling to the city I adore. Mom has doctor appointment at one of the hospitals the wounded were taken to.
I am hoping to write a few stories and share some more photos I already have the photos in camera now to download them onto laptop and WRITE
Miss you all
Well here in New Hampshire some at higher elevations got a few inches of snow we had temps. in the 20′s F.
I came home sick from the 10 days of meditation then got better and poked around the yard with JT. I sent him out detecting as he had her for 12 days. They went on walks and hikes which was so nice for them but he missed his treasure. So JT would grab a Frisbee or a stick depending upon her mood and me my camera, rake and shovel. It was spring and things had to be done before the Black Flies arrived. So I took a stool into the garden and set about digging out more rocks that had surfaced from the fall tilling he had done for me and threw something for the dog to chase. She will be seven on Mother’s Day do Border Collies ever slow down?
Now I took the larger stones out and the peas are in now to add some peat moss and compost and move that into the soil then I will lay a tarp over whole garden bed to kill all weed seeds but not the Peas!
I have some time to get crops in as we can have frost up until May 30. Yes a short season compared to the south. I decided I will grow tomatoes in Pots and 5 gal. buckets with the mix I whip up. I will grow peppers, herbs, lettuce the same way. In the garden I will grow sweet corn, squash, potatoes, garlic, onion, kale, spinach and lots of Zinnias, Sunflowers and Cosmos.
I have yet to dig up my Ruggosa Roses(Beach Plum) and move them I also have Forsythia just starting to bloom so when they are done I will move some to the berm area. I am trying to get my plants picked out for Cottage Garden area and today I went to a yard sale with boyfriend and JT and bought two trellises from a man who came down from Maine to Massachusetts and had almost sold out by the time I chose mine. They are made from cedar but I want to coat with sealer so they will give me many years of use.
I tried to pressure wash front of home but could not start my machine shoulder killing me from FRISBEE lol He will get her started so I can spray with bleach mixture and get the green to wash off the paint on east side of home under the pines. Must take one tree down but with willow having to come down I hate to lose another tree so I will hold off but not too long as a new roof I can not afford it is just 3 years old now. I have cedar shingles I need to replace so I watched a You Tube video on how it is done now to look for that tool they used.
I have ben pulling dirt away from exposed wood were it rots it away and will add plants far from foundation so it doesn’t happen again.
Well this week I will be busy getting plants ready for our Garden Club yard and plant sale first Sat. in May but it will be over by noon so I can run to local racetrack to get my pick for the Kentucky Derby in and get home for watching the Fastest 2 Minutes in Sports! We will offer lilies, annuals and perennials. Can’t wait to see how much we make as we already added some color to our town but want to have plants done by us in downtown along the bridge and at major intersection as you come through town. We only have 5 older woman in our group so we do the best we can.
Here are a few photos of what I have been up to lately. I will go through the reader and try to catch up with you all though most of you never seem to show up on it even though I am one of your followers.
Lilac(above in bud)
Ruggosa Rose Bushes (above in bud)
The grass is green
I went through over 400 pounds of bird seed this winter yes it was a bad winter.
Looking forward to getting all the yard and home done by Memorial Day so I can sit back and reap all I get back in return for the 6 months that will follow. I will make more jewelry and take different kinds of photos I will even use the tripod more.
So nice to sit and share life with you once again. Can’t wait to see what you all have been up too!
Here is one of the more recent birds to visit here in flocks along with the small cow birds or black with orange and yellow stripes on their wings. Boy they love the seed but they come and Cardinals leave and I miss them though they call to me each morning from where they have been busy building their nests.
Oh I placed my half full hummingbird feeders out last night just incase they arrive early and the Apple Tree has yet to open.
Can’t wait till they come back home.
Have a great week everyone!
Well last night we lost an hour of sleep due to our moving our clocks ahead in spring as we do here in New Hampshire for Daylight Savings Time. I went to bed early after being at the beach. Yes a perfect day in the mid 40′s. It was a very Messy Beach and some lost their homes. I am not sure if you caught it on your news as I never know if AP news will broadcast things that happen here, all over the world.
You know I will keep you up on the stories in the news throughout New England well at least when it comes to storms and flooding.
JT and I walked along the shoreline for exercise and play while her daddy searched for treasure. I left her Frisbee in the truck and grabbed a stick we keep for windy days. I knew she would want to jump waves if we played with her favorite toy but today was not a day to be playing in the sea.
The waves were strong and very powerful. One after another slammed into the coastline. Remember we go when the tide is heading out. He only hunts low tides and I hunt the beaches when people have just left from a day of beach going and I never go down to the water with my machine. This is winter though in New England and we had an enormous coastal storm. It was very far out to sea but we still got nailed by it. The beach had 3 days easy of seas with 20 foot plus seas. It slammed into sea walls and busted them again. Roads were closed due to rock and four feet of water in some sections where the beach breached an area where the state has determined a pretty coastal route would be. Mother Nature has a funny way of taking back what always should have been a place of give and take. I never really think to add video to these lengthy posts but if you want to go to the web to look here are a few local news stations where you can see it in action.
So as we walked the dog and I we met others who were shocked by what they saw had taken place with yet another storm. The dunes which help to keep the water from homes and businesses were just about gone. They were huge. They were tall with pretty grasses holding them together. They had been a part of our lives forever if you grew up in New England. We were not allowed to ride dune buggies on them they were not for fun. They were to protect us and a place for wild birds to make their nests. Where would they go now? Tax money spent over and over to fix the beach. We have people who flock here from Canada and other parts of the world will they still come? I am sad people once again lost their homes. Yes they were silly to want to build by the sea but she is so beautiful on most days. Look at other beaches. Huge hotel chains line the beach in Virginia, Florida too. Everyone wants to get close to the sea. These past thirty eight years I can remember, spending so much time visiting them have seen so much change.
When sand was washed out to sea dunes collapsed and drainage pipes show up I guess filthy storm drain water screened through all the sand was supposed to be OK for the oceans now with rain coming and it will fall for days where will it go besides straight into our ocean that feeds us. So very sad.
Foundations showing up from buildings long ago gone. I used to go to the one that stood here beside the sea. The Frolics was famous for music, and drinks. Many years ago there had even been a huge swimming pool alongside this beach. Salisbury Beach have you ever been. It used to be a fun place to go not so much anymore well unless you are a dog with a great Mom and Dad.
She really wants to run time to let her off leash for a few minutes while I show you some of what we saw at the beach that was a mess.
That is JT’s Dad hunting the beach
Last one for this post
See the metal stakes?
The dunes came out this far and a wooden fence was attached to these all along the shoreline to KEEP PEOPLE OFF THEM but no one told the Sea to STAY AWAY.
Brrr it was so cold this morning but my other half asked me to wake him by 5:00 AM so he could head over this way. He wanted to metal detect during low tide. I know I should have gone, if for no other reason than to watch the sunrise and get a few photos to share. I was warm and toasty and looking forward to some coffee, which I would have to pass on since there are no public bathrooms open in this area at this time of the year. Silly really when you see the amounts of residents and tourists that walk our shores each and every day. Snow, rain or sleet looks the same as a warm spring day. They flock here by the droves. Rye is loved by dog owners as well as surfers. See both are allowed here.
I see where the Northwest will get snow and rains, CA too. Wy and ID will receive snow, just what they are looking forward to in Jackson Hole as their mountains are getting ready to open up their lifts. We have mountains open for snowboarding and skiing over here in the Northeast as it has been so cold they have been putting down a nice base. They say by Thursday, Thanksgiving, it will be BEAUTIFUL! At our home it will be in the 50′s, though we will share our meals where our pup JT was born, so it may be only in the 40′s there but that is still OK by me, any day I do not have to shovel my way out the door is a Good Day! Texas will enjoy temps in the 80′s oh how I wish I was in the BIG D! I really must get into this winter mindset or I will never leave the house. When JT and I went out to fill the feeders, for our feathered friends, she must have loved the icy frost on the pads of her paws as she ran to her basketball and wanted us to have a game! I was just in slippers and a nice warm robe so you know I said “Latter JT” and headed to the door! We have a huge basket of nice clean as well as warm toys just inside the door for her to play with.
Have a great day or night everyone
