Snowstorm Here

Down along the rivers edge here at home.

Looking down from bedroom window.  Wildlife is hanging close by for breakfast

This gray Squirrel finally ventured out of the Willow good thing we did not cut it down  and stopped the beaver from doing so.

Here he comes over to the bad door to eat and torment JT lol

100_3917

This is the other end of the lower yard.

We had 12″ of fully snow then the rains fell and it  got real heavy so we had to move it before the temps dropped and it turned to ice.   We are do a few more inches tomorrow and there is a full COLD MOON.  Stay warm

IS IT SPRING YET?

Winter Gardens At Home(updated)

JT grabbed her Frisbee and me the camera and we went to walk the property so I could pick up any branches that may have come down it the nasty winds.  You will see there is no snow. Plenty chilly today.  The cat for some reason was running like she was a kitten again she is 12 now.  So I toss the disc over and over while making sure the cat did not leave and head out into the coyote filled woods, all the while capturing parts of our yard before it gets covered in snow, the 2 or 3 in. we had last week melted with warmer temps and torrential rains.  The river is actually at flood stage or 2 in. below today. Time to share our stroll around the yard.

Damn Dam

100_2870

This has been here hiding in the woods since the 50’s

When you get close to the actual dam , it is posted  KEEP OUT

The woods before it were not

100_2871

Now there is an old part and then another concrete structure that is very long and very tall, all it’s for is to hold water in the lake so they can boat and they drain it over and over into this small tiny stream each year so they do not have to pull their docks up and out of the way.

This stream is the one that makes my southern boundary, which is being destroyed .  Year after year so then can keep their stationary DOCKS.

I never knew that this was 3 miles out in the woods behind my property and if it failed it would be catastrophic, we would all die down stream in minutes.

Such a pretty place but they do not want to follow regulations the state wants them to.  I thought I had problems.  Well next I will  find out how often it is checked,  as our state is cutting budgets and bridges are crumbling  what about DAMS?

100_2872

100_2873

100_2877

This section is about 200 yards downstream

100_2884

100_2892

Yes,  I worked my way around to a place where I could get a different view of a dam,  that could truly wipe us out downstream.  I am now scared as we have had a few earthquakes, a couple of tornadoes and many hurricanes and this sits 3 miles behind me

Dam Open Water Gone

100_2971

Well they had another draw down at the lake and you can see more of the islands show up, as well as the shoreline.

Come to find out it is the association here that wants to release so much water,  so that they can  leave their docks in the water all winter.

100_2849

My yard is one of many taking it all so they can keep doing what they want.  This will now become a push and shove deal and I will fight for my land,  as this is MY HOME not a SUMMER COTTAGE.

100_2972

Absolutely insane to be drawn down so much,  that water is eight feet below where it runs normally.

I thought all of this was being done with a few boards, was I ever surprised to see what is behind my house,  hidden in the woods and should it fail,  as dams did in Katrina, we will be dead in minuets.  I will show you what has been destroying my beautiful landscape,  year after year,  in a few days, if I can get any sleep now.

AN old photo of our yard when snow dumps.   Here today we shall get some they say but tomorrow it will MELT AWAY :)

For here today they are calling for some snow.  You know it won’t make me happy as I adore my sunshine filled days.  I do however loves running out to grab a shot before one foot prints or paw print disturbs the scene.
Only wish the Deer and Moose had been having their morning drink from our stream when I ran out to snap the photo.

8 AM looking out at the river

8 AM looking out at the river

As the sun rose and spread west

The light shone on all the work we have done

Yesterday I got some much needed rest

I still can not believe the damage one Beaver has done

I raked while he cut

He stacked while I trimmed trees

You could tell we didn’t spend much time sitting on our butt

So as I stood here with camera in hand the only word that came to mind was  gee

We really took the bull by the horns on this one

The water is down almost to where it should be

The Beaver have NOT WON

Guess who has been sleeping ME

Weeping Willow Pieces

We have so much work to do here in the lower yard, along the stream.  I hope we can get it taken care of before the snow stops us in our tracks.  We have to haul the pieces he cut for me to use as a place to step upon in the garden path areas, I think I want them to stay natural but not sure what kinds of bugs they will draw to the garden, not that the birds won’t love them.  Here is how many he got ready for me with just two of the trees limbs.

Wooden Slabs For The Garden

The ones close to the entrance the Beavers made, will be burned as they have dried out too much.

We have had one fire to get rid of all the small pieces  now to burn the chunks, on a calm evening.  I would have loved to do it tonight with the shooting stars above but I am very tired and do not feel like watching a fire in the cold, all night, even with the pretty stars above.
