http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/03/17/daily-prompt-linger/

The best day for me to linger would be the day the horrid winter,  truly gives up it’s strong hold and allows spring to arrive with all of it’s beauty.

You know the kind of day, snow banks filthy from too many months of winters cold,  when the earth lets out a sigh and you witness it  begin to drink up the moisture that once would only allow more ice to form. When the frost beneath the yard was just too thick to allow for drainage of any kind to begin.  It is the kind of day I wait so long for.  I hear about it coming on the news and I get ready.  I bring out the table and chair from the barn,  yes we are tough here up in the northeast.

As the morning arrives I will be ready.  The sun will come up and greet me at the kitchen window, beside the coffee maker where I will stand and wait for it to finish all the while I will soak in the first rays of this special day.  By the second cup JT and I will make our way to the table and chair lying in wait for me to sit and linger.

The birds will be signing their absolute prettiest tunes and the Apple tree will have swollen buds as will the Forsythia.  This is how I will spend each morning after that first day of warmth, lingering in the yard with my girl,  soaking in the suns warmth only from now on with sunscreen.

In Between Storms

OK I am not going to whine. Honest I am so used to our winter routine and with a few days in between each storm(yes getting 12+tomorrow)  I swear I look forward to the huffing and puffing to ease so I can take a shot, with out a heaving chest getting into the way and messing up my capture!

So let’s see I went to see the skin surgeon who told me the cancer on my face is a common one and that he should get it all the first time , I like people who are right up front and say what needs to be said.  He will wait till after my birthday and then after that is done if the gorgeous snows have slowed down a bit I will begin to start the process about having my shoulder repaired, it was bad before winter and with all of this…

Yes More Snow They Say

Sorry I am so seldom on here and so few of you actually show up in the  WP READER that I follow,  for when I have time to check in now and then.  You see we are having, as far as I am concerned, a winter from hell.  Now the skiers, snowmobilers and snowboarders LOVE IT!  It is all in how you look at things and when all I see is WHITE I am far from impressed!

So I took a Watercolor class it was only three hours long but between the colorful woman from Russia who taught it and the pallet of gorgeous colors I brought to choose from, those three hours were just what the doctor ordered.

After trying to beat the ice covered yard I GAVE UP!  I never give up but I was truly defeated by all this #*%&!  Thirty four days till SPRING and that will not mean this snow will end, you see here in New England it is not over some years until we are into MAY!  They say global warming I say BULL!   It has been brutal here with not only the snow but bitter cold and we are getting another eight inches or more tonight they say blizzard conditions and I am tired of blogging like I am a weather forecaster.  You know I even left 10 inches of snow on the roof, we just could not move anymore and were not safe up there in 40 mile per hour winds so enough is enough.   I would wave a white flag but surly only the bear and coyote would see me and I would scare my little birds away as if the Eagle, Coopers Hawk and Sharp Shinned ones don’t do that already. :)

So last night I sat with my paints and began to pick up pretty colors and in a Monet fashion I added pretty colors to the white paper in what they say is a wash.  They are now dry and I love the look of these small pieces of paper, now I will try to add some interest in the foreground not even sure I am supposed to do it this way as it was only a three hour class.  Seems like this is how I roll.  I learn the basic points and go off on my own I guess I never really saw myself that much of a rebel but indeed I guess I am.

What do you all do when weekends roll around or on an evening when you scream out UNCLE?  See I don’t drink or smoke or go out dancing any more so I make things,  so I stay out of trouble.

I take photos too when it is not dark out and here are a few of my world these days but you are probably tired of hearing about lousy weather too.

Image

Since all I plan on adding to the inside of these garden walls this year are Sunflowers we dump the snow inside, now it maybe May till I can poke my finger in the soil a half inch to drop the seed.  Spring is coming isn’t it?  I should pray it come slowly or the house will be surly under water if we get nasty flooding you see there is no rhyme or reason some of you have nothing and us TOO MUCH.
Image

JT popped her new  orange ball, so I took this one out and then I bought her another larger one, Pink Minnie Mouse but when storm is coming I throw it in the back seat of the truck so we can find it come morning.

Image

This is up against the Lilacs I chopped in half,  between my brutal pruning and all this, that will melt, I am sure they will be MONSTERS again.
Image
Before the last storm.

Image
We will sit and wait for the next 8 inches to arrive this afternoon and he just told me he will go up on the roof now to get some weight off of it before the next storm arrives one good thing if we fall the snow banks around the house are so high we won’t fall far.

Always the silver lining!

Have an awesome weekend.

It Snowed!

No I did not take photos yet after shoveling for seven hours in 24 hour period I was too tired to snap a photo really that tired and I fell again.  I told him to return my boot cleats he had bought me as I usually am very steady sadly yesterday I was not!  I am OK bad bruise that will heal in time I have enough going on never mind see another doctor.

So today I will share some more shots from our day before the storm at the coast.  We went for a long walk to see the seals and snowy owls maybe an eagle or two.  Mostly seals and gulls as it was cold and windy and I knew I would need my strength for the storm clearing so we were only outside for two hours in it but JT had a great time with me as I did her then we watched her daddy look for treasure.  Oh I did change my photo on all my sites to the same photo except for my Friends of Living and Loving Facebook page so no longer will you see a shot of him bent over digging treasure but he is.
So here are a few shots of JT and maybe a landscape or two sorry if photos are too large and take forever to load I will work on that next time I upload. I need the largest format to sell and do not want 3, 4, or 5 of the same photos in my computer all in different sizes I am computer illiterate
so I do things the easiest way I can to find the photo I want to share with you and just click on insert photo.
Image

Seeing him digging down on the beach thinking she would take me there silly girl she is fearless.
Image

She had never paid attention to the seawall but on this cold day feeling no pain she jumped up on her own and wanted to walk it.  Seems as she gets older I may have to watch her more.

Image

A pretty place to sit  and watch  a sunset and a group of very loud seals
Image

back to the truck to wait for the sunset and go home and await the storm good thing they brought dinner for the gulls
Image

Can not wait till I get back to the sea

JANUARY THAW MAKES ME HAPPY!

On the second weekend in New England, the January Thaw really kicked in.  Be still my heart.  I could not believe how cold it has been, really since Thanksgiving into the New Year.  We have been spoiled it seems.  Many recent winters we have had a little cold them warmth then cold again, see I really like that, I think.  This winter we had a vortex and it brought me back to my youth and really big snowstorms and cold weather.  We still have January to get through then February and March will follow. bringing with it who knows what.  We did not get the worst of the horrid stretch of weather, the poor folks in our countries mid section got hammered, so I can not complain just our backs and coastline took a beating so far, oh wait the heating bills have been crazy made even worse by a fixed income.  It is why I am trying to sell some photography here and there just for extra cash to make life easier.  My sweetheart will be making some things for me using his welding expertise for the upcoming craft fairs and yard sales and when we have some finished I will show you.

So what do we here in New England do when we get our January Thaw?  We get outside!  We spend time out in the warmth of a winter’s day, with sunshine on our faces. We so not ski but he used and we do not skate but we could, as the yard has so much ice all over where  we cleared of snow.  See we have had over 1 1/2 feet of snow then 4 inches or more of rain then freezing and thawing going on and finally he resorted to getting us some cheap cleats for the bottom of our boots.  Mine are still in the package his are worn in.

I take JT through the snow as I can not afford another injury like a broken arm or hip or for her to get hurt as vets and doctors charge too much. Wait can I get Obama care for her?  So steady as we go is our plan.  Chopping ice each mid day only for it to re-freeze over night.  You have to be tough to live above the Mason Dixon Line, where the north and south meet.  Yes the south suffers terribly too, with drought and heat and wicked storms that blow homes away and ruin lives.  What an amazing place this Earth of ours is, really we are all at its mercy aren’t we.  We either roll with the punches or give up.  So far what ever has been thrown in my direction I have been able to recover from, some sadly never will and I find that so unfair.  Ok enough depressing weather stuff, want to see our world yesterday?
After chopping  with the one  arm I have left of any use, I grabbed the camera and that cute JT and went off into the woods behind our barn to see what was going on, hoping to run into a deer or two.
Image

We found his tracks right away, just steps away from the rear of the barn.
Image

Some pretty interesting trees like this pretty Paper Birch peeling out in the winter landscape.
Image

This tree just a little older and stronger with the start of some curling  bark. I adore trees but you already know that :)
Image

This one has some company along its trunk
Image

You can see JT was all about this decaying tree who knows what had stopped here before us.
Image

Well beaten down deer trails could be found along with bear, coyote and fox  prints as well all leading to the stream and away from it.  Everyone needs fresh water.

Image

It was pretty bright and sunny and we were really enjoying the walk in the woods today I will hit the beach as it will be almost 50 degrees!
Image

Big and small deer living here on my property make me know I am doing something right.
Image

JT is loving all the smells nature has left behind in the woods and I am so thankful she never goes off on her own, she is definitely a Momma’s Girl.
Image

More tracks of forest dwellers.

Image

Scat left by one such animal. A deer has been here.
Image

It really was such a pretty walk in the woods with my girl even the trees looked joyful and no longer weighed down with snow and ice.

It was time to head back out to reality.  Time for some more chopping before supper was put on to cook.
Image

This is out in front of the barn, no wonder he is hunting for chains to fit his 1954 Dodge with dual wheels a lot of good all that beautiful welding of my plow being added to his truck did ,if it can’t move.   We SHOVEL and CHOP!
Image

Yes it is rather treacherous to say the least!  I must be grateful there is ICE and NOT MORE SNOW well not yet.  :)  Give it a minute we are in New England!
Have a great week and I hope everyone who was suffering in the awful cold is also getting a respite if even for a day or so and for those dealing with summer heat and drought I wish you cooling rains.  Gentle not flooding as we will soon know that world all too well.

Have a great week!

Peace

January Third In New England

I loaded the cameras charged batteries into each one and added them to the huge bag to keep them safe.

I put JT’s collar on her as I do each time we venture from the yard.

This time we climbed into the already warm truck as it was horrid out.

I needed to make a trip into Portsmouth area.  Newington actually was my first stop.

Have you heard about Habitat For Humanity I am sure you have, well they have a re-store there and as it goes to a good cause I thought I would start there for things I needed in the house.  Wow! I will be back and I hope enough people support them so it stays open for a very long time.  They had what I was looking for and even things I needed but had no idea till I got there so I did not come prepared with the measurements I would need.  See they sell windows and doors and lots of them for $5.00, $10 and $20 each!  I have a foggy plant/greenhouse type window beside my desk which is only good for light other than that it is useless after over 30+ years. It is time for a large window with screen or as my man suggested maybe we can make a door there and add a wooden porch just on the other side,  see I was not the only one who got excited here.  OH the possibilities!

He also found a small light weight snow thrower on wheels that we were promised worked great but to keep the receipt in case it didn’t. My Mom bought us one for the roof and though it is a Toro and it works nice to make paths for JT and the birds I would hate to leave it on the roof now this one he got is light and we can wrap in a small tarp and I bought a new Bright Green bungee cord to secure it to one of the 3 chimneys.  Actually 2 of them will never have smoke coming out of them and with coal stove still needing a plate before I use it safely you get the picture anywhere up there will work.  Yes there is snow up there again another 10 to 12 inches unless the wind blew it off.  It was 20 below last night and now at 9:30 AM it has climbed up top minus 5 F.

Now the one thing I went to this store to look for was a ceiling fan-light kit.  I figured as people remodel up here on the coast they would change those out too.  We found blades, and parts but not what I really wanted so as we headed out for him to by the snow tool he says “Look!”  There to my right was a shelf with eight complete fans.  Mine is 30 years old and seems to have been tightened as much as it can be and with these new bulbs we use when they get shaken they do not last long.  Well with so many to pick from I could not decide. So he did.  I paid for the fan and back out to the truck for JT who was waiting patiently and the truck was warm sitting in the sun. Now to gas up the truck as you see the prices were .08 cheaper per. gallon then 20 miles back home.

I was driving so I decided a detour of sorts would be nice after all I had not one camera but three!  We knew the beach had been battered at midnight and at noon as high tide arrived so I decided to take the scenic ride along the ocean so much for the savings at the gas pump.  JT loves the beach as much as us but I never told her we were going but her nose told her we were going someplace she loved. She was no longer laying across the rear seat she was sitting up and waiting!

As we got closer we saw the roads had been swamped with sea water as well as lots of rocks and boulders.  It had actually been closed for hours but now open I was still uncertain about continuing but with tide being now 3 hours before I forged onwards with a happy dog in the back seat with her head out the window.  Brrrr I did say it was horrid right.

I drove into the nasty slop as he cringed for his truck.  OH I heard him say “Now it will need to be washed.”  lol time to toughen up this Honda!

Now come the photos as you know I usually I try to add some eye candy to make up for the less than eloquent words.

Image

The clouds in the distance are from the storm that raged through leaving friends with 20+ inches of snow and us with 10 to 12.
You can see that the sea is still churning and whipping the surf into a frothy scene.  Nice for photos but not nice to be out here.  JT was in awe over the simplest of things.  Her beach was covered with frozen sea water which she spent the 5 min. while I shot these images smelling.

I swear I do not know how these gulls do this with fast food joints just across the marsh.

Image

Poor things left outside to bear the brunt of the most unbearable of weather.  I even saw some out riding on the waves and I thought my life was tough NOT!!!!

Here are a few more shots ,see if you can feel the cold day though one shot I added warmth too, can you tell which one?  All my shots are available now on cards and prints for your home and even on pillows and ties!

Trying to shake off the cold poor thing lousy photo as I was walking up to the car I was trying to capture them and not fall.

Image

I was blustery and frigid but so worth the effort to make our way through the sloop of slushy sea water and rock that had come up and over onto our coastal route and washed more of our beautiful beaches away.

Now a photo of our place yesterday

I hope she will always enjoy what ever way we spend our day with her.  She will be eight on Mother’s Day and I want to always do things to see her filled with as much joy as she gives us.

Have a great weekend!

JT Loves Winter Me Not so Much

You already know that if you are a friend and follower.  I wanted to do a post as this year comes to an end.  Yes not a Re-Blog though I love sharing cool stuff  others spend the time to add to WordPress.

So this one will be of a Happy Dog.  You see when the weather is warm you will never see her do this the flying disc will get all the play time but let a few inches of snow fall and you knows right where she has tucked her winter toy away.  I have told you she is smart a time or two right.

Here is a series I shot of her and her winter toy.  I kick then snap photo, this time with a bulky Nikon not as easy to capture her as I did with my Kodak so excuse the faults in the photos and just try to see the Joy as I witnessed.

Image
Kick it Mom!
Image
Got it Mom let’s do that again OK
Image
Here I come Mom get ready!
Image

Quit taking photos and kick my ball!

Image

Last one? Why?
Image

She hates when I say last one.  She will play till she drops in this kind of weather.  As she ages the summer heat takes it’s toll on her but winter no way.  She watches the squirrels play and eat in the yard  as I do my beading and every now and then she will turn her head and look at me with those beautiful eyes begging to go back out.  You see she knows me after almost 8 years Last One really are just for a minute or two.  I get dressed again and open the door and off she goes to where she left her ball.  No wonder the heating bill is so high in and out like your children see she is my little girl.

Happy New Year from our home up here in New Hampshire to yours.  May this year coming be a beautiful one with peace and harmony for all mankind.

Back Up Onto The Roof

I hope this is not how my whole winter will go.  Snow removal seems to run days together.  Tonight we are getting rain maybe lots and lots of rain and then some will have major icy event.  Trees will be lost as well as homes and cars they fall onto.  Our state has called in help from the states south of us as they prepare for the worst one of which could be no power come Christmas morning.  So many states face this year after year and we do every 5 to 8 years  and it is so sad to see very few real old trees in the landscapes.

OK time for some photos so you can see where I spend time each day.

Upon climbing up and across the roof I am met with this.  Heat Loss?  I would say by the looks of this, the job paid for to insulate the whole house, may not have been done as well as it could have been. The propane I heat with is selling for over $4.00 a gal. last I want it to do is exit the home .
Image

Wow I am getting quicker at this or there was less snow this time.  I did the whole roof in 2 hours first time and this time 1 1/2 hours.

Image

See the flat roof and the small pitch roof any snow on them and warm weather or rain like tonight would act like a sponge and cause the roof to collapse.  The insurance company would not pay to repair if I di not do my part.  I wish I had won some of that jackpot to raise the roof and cover it with metal.  OH well I will keep the shovel close by .

This is the way down!
Image

Since I blog I take the camera up with me in a bag all wrapped up soon I will need a structure up there to shoot from all year long.  I love the views from there just wish I was not on ice.

A Eagle flew over me but I had a shovel and not the camera in my hand so I missed that one but here are some of the views from the roof as I cleared it off.

Image

Image

Image

See 10:00 AM not a drop of water on my land by 2:00 PM they had opened the dam AGAIN and washed away more of my land.
Never ending battle I think.  Maybe I will sell this place in a few years and buy a one bedroom condo by the ocean where it is warm.

Are you all done shopping and making your desserts for Christmas?  We will see my Mom on Monday and then on Christmas walk in the woods out back or a pretty winter beach.

From Above The Yard

From Above The Yard

This is just the view to the west from my homes roof see all the snow cleared for dog and birds OUCH today was the roofs turn to get cleared. It took 2 hours of constant shoveling to rid all but the south side of the home from 12 Inches of the white stuff WHEN IS SPRING? It is snowing right now and they say maybe another 8″ which is why I was up here

What’s So Pretty About Winter

Ok so we made sure that we gassed up the truck, and snow thrower. I went out in the snow last night and out of 5 members in the garden club just 3 of us enjoyed something sinful.   It was so nice to travel a road alone in the quiet and then snow fell lightly.  I had my first Chi Latte LOVED IT and a piece of chocolate decadence cake. The chief said “I thought you were going to go sinful that is even gluten-free!” lol I just hope the plate was heavy she place it on or I will have to go shovel another 2 hours before weigh-in Tuesday!

OK I am hurting real bad from head to toes so let me add your EYE CANDY so I can go watch TOM BRADY,  man is he handsome and a nice guy, my EYE CANDY.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Have to make my way out to add water for the birds it’s been so cold the river froze over.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

6 AM this yellow beast was in my hand making pathways for JT to use as well as places to spread cracked corn and black sunflower seeds for all the ground feeders.

Now as you can see we did not get buried but 12 inches more than I want ALL WINTER!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Now the pretty abstract of ice and tree reflections upon the river are gone and replaced with snow.  When the sun comes out I will try to find a pretty spot for you till then watching boyfriend behind the machine and Tom on TV LIFE IS GOOD!

December 11 early morning as the sun appears

Yes cold and I suppose pretty lol

What A Week

Now I am laughing as I write this post,  no tears,  not anymore well till I write story on Tuesday but even then I will lean towards POSITIVE as you all have been wonderful with me and for me honestly the ones who ran out,  maybe they didn’t,  that reader on Google drove me back to WP  Reader for now and I  will try to follow you through emails so I miss no posts we are not getting any younger,  my birthday is less than three weeks away and THIS WEEK  had me feeling even older than the 56,  I am.

So here are a few photos not good enough for primetime as some were taken through a window where the stove was cranking out warmth .

100_5470

See what winds and powdery type snow can do for  a  New England landscape.  This came down like crazy and then the sun came out and temps. rose into the 40’s F and me stuck reading the scrawling GOOGLE READER,  heard water dripping on the built-in plant window,  beside the desk.  I  hardly left the desk all day yesterday and it was BEAUTIFUL by February in New England measures now today we had snow till noon and winds are moving at highway speeds yes 55 to 65 MPH.  Many have lost trees and POWER fingers crossed I get post out to you all before we do.

I will show you a more from yesterday then some from today.  Today I did go out to shovel while boyfriend and JT went to get part for coal stove can’t have that breaking on us.   There was no more than 3 inches of light fluffy stuff easy to move but it was brutal with those winds.  12 miles further east they had 6 inches fall so far.

100_5494

Just so picturesque hey see one of our Chickadee’s?  This was the weekend to count birds I gave up TOO MANY,  so very hungry and me the sucker for the wee ones .

100_5536

Now this was my attempt to shovel a path and spread cracked corn and sunflower seeds all along the shoveled areas for them to SHARE,  well I have a flock of Juncos who call my place home each winter and with all the food on ground really for them look where I found them

100_5523

Hanging out in the Apple Tree scared of all the big bad bullies as soon as I stepped out the bullies departed and down came the Juncos.  More food thrown out for them

Spring has to be on the way my Cardinals are so beautiful and they were scared in the winds today so pardon more lousy photos through the window

as I tried to capture their mating colors  BRING ON SPRING early like Phil promised

100_5557

One of 8 Males who call this place home

100_5558

WOW They are so beautiful when they are looking for the ladies!

now it is the girls turn and I am sorry small camera and window shots not really what they are like here but you will get the idea I think check out their beaks I used to raise parakeets and I can tell.  So much you still do not know about me

100_5547

100_5528

sorry it was snowing like crazy but isn’t this bird pretty

I scared one of the squirrels and he grabbed a seed and covered his face with snow poor baby too cold to be looking for food but a branch broke off the Willow that had been chewed by the Beaver and I had left it up so they could have their winter home sadly it is now an open air model they must be starving with no way to dig through 2+ feet of snow.

100_5522

BRRRRRR

Well I took my little monster out with me and after she takes her time doing her thing next thing I know is she was feeling so frisky in this frigid air she decides she will HERD ME I tried to catch her mean look but sadly I came up short her too it just has not been a good two days for perfect picture-taking.

100_5505

100_5508

She really is fresh when she is acting like a Border Collie.  This afternoon I was the Mommy and gave her a bath which she hates but boy does she love the blow dry and comb out  now she is warm and napping and so very pretty and silky to the touch>

Well I hope you enjoyed my post it was nice to come here and chat with you and do a show and tell

For all of you west of me Keep The Snow I have birds who want spring as much as me

Yes I am HAPPY and LAUGHING

again Love you all  and hope you get the weather you need as well

Peace

Eunice

I can’t wait to see these beautiful Roses covered in blooms and bees yes LIFE IS GOOD

HELLO EVERYONE

Just stopping in to say Hello.

How do you all keep up with your fellow bloggers?

Do you use the Reader on Google?  I have been 2 hours trying to catch up with many of you and sadly it has not gone well,  more like pulling teeth, OUCH.  Computer is so slow  don’t know if it is the weather or just and old computer or if it is GOOGLE I just wish I could make it FAST!  I miss you all.  I did have a RSS feed that sat up on the top of my page but when changing search engines or something I lost that.  So if you have the time to email me at myremmy@hotmail.com or Eunice356@gmail.com  I would love to hear from you.  PLEASE.

Now I spoke of WEATHER yes seems that is all I have done lately sorry but it is winter in New England and not sunny South Beach.
Here is a look out of living room window looking south towards the river.

100_5467

Yes pretty.

It is light and fluffy and my back is so happy for that.

Wildlife is too by the looks of the back yard.

JT and I will go fill the feeders and after 3 when they come for supper I will do my wild bird count.

I sold the van yesterday to a couple who wants to use it to go on trips like we used it for and now halfway to what I need to fix the transmission RIGHT THIS TIME hopefully.  Then to take rusted parts off and add a wooden floor in the back and pretty wood rails she will not look like my Mopar when I bought her but it will still push this dang snow so all we will need to shovel is porch and brick area and the ROOF.  I hope they will have many good times in the van life is short.

So if you can get back to me I would love to see more of you.

Peace and Love to you all.

Eunice

Several city agencies are now working together, their goal: to get the snow, ice and debris left after the weekend’s devastating blizzard off the streets.

A parade of bulldozers, plows and salt trucks rolled out of the city’s public works headquarters as officials announced the start of a massive snow removal effort.

“It’s an arduous process and I don’t think we can get it all done in one shot, but we’re going to do our damn best to get as much done as possible,” said Joanne Massaro, Boston Public Works commissioner.

As of Monday afternoon, Boston crews plowed 810 miles of roads since the storm dumped 25 inches of snow in 24 hours. And city tow trucks yanked about 430 cars off the…

So this is how the yard looked as we heard about NEMO arriving in our section of the US.

We got gas in the pick-up truck and in a gas can for our very old snow blower, we just hoped

it could stand up to the storm they were predicting for us. They said from 1 foot of fresh

light powder type snow to 2 feet in some places.  The also said the winds would be wild.

I am here to show and tell that yes it arrived and what a storm it was.  We never lost power

as so many did just south of us,  maybe lots north of us as well I never watched the news we were too busy

moving SNOW.

You see the snow just started falling and it seemed it would never stop.  I said I would stay up all night

and shovel it off as three inches fell,  you know I have a bad back and plow truck is broken and I wanted

to help him as I knew him with a bad heart would be hours moving it from the rest of our yard.  Well I fell

asleep and woke at 4 AM to let the dog and cat out.  That wasn’t happening as the snow was up against the back door,

so in a robe, Bright Red(would help to find me if I fell and cracked my head, lol) and winter boots pulled on

over bare feet I stepped outside while JT and Rhythm watched from the warm living room, with their legs crossed,

as their Mom shoveled a 10′ long path for them to go do their business . The cat stepped out and right back in,  her litter box is

all she would need.  JT could pee but need more room to do anything else so here I am, snow coming down making and area wider

at the end of the path for her boy does she have a good Mommy.  Now I forgot to tell you the snow was deeper than the boots I use in winter,

I refuse to wear knee-high boots for anything besides fashion!

She was now done and waited to be wiped dry,  yes she is so spoiled and now I have just had a workout and unable to sleep, so I worked on the computer

and had my coffee and waited for daybreak,  so I would not wake the dead(my neighbors) when I started the snow blower,  my intent was to punch a path for

the pets and the wild birds who feed on the ground.  It would be fast,  NOT!   It took 2 hours for me behind the machine to make a path through the snow that

had not yet stopped  and to clear an area below the bird feeders.  He was up by now with all the racket and he took over.  He was out there for 8 hours moving

snow!  Remember we have a small and very old snow thrower.

Here are some after shots.

100_5396

100_5391

Can you see the roof I went up and had to shovel that as he took all the snow I threw down and blew the yard all over again!

Did I tell you I hate winter and do you know those of us 55 and old are 4 times more likely to have a heart attack.  The place was now safe

but were we?  I hurt in places I never thought I could and that damn thing I wear on my hip to show how much activity I have done after 3 and a half

hours shoveling the roof only said I did hardly ANYTHING for exercise  talk about adding insult to injury.

So I am off for weigh in and I am probably up a pound but hey I had to keep my STRENGTH UP

Miss you all but winter has had a grip on me

More photos today when I come back as I am sending him to the beach alone so I can eat candy and visit ALL YOUR BLOGS

Cold Along The Coast

I wanted to go for a walk and it read 8 F here in the yard and it didn’t feel too bad,  after what it had been like for 3 days here  well below  0 F,  with nasty winds.  The kind that feel like they are cutting right into your skin.

So we bundled in layers all except for the poor dog.  I wish she didn’t hate coats.

It was a beautiful clear day a perfect one for a drive.  Once I turned towards the coast the roads were all ours maybe they knew better.

Put a coat on to check these out or you will catch a CHILL

The Beach was all ours from 2 PM till 4 PM

100_4956

After I loaded the dog and my camera in the truck and warmed it up I went back to see if he was still OK and a pilot had placed a HUGE HEART up over the sea

it was beautiful but you will have to take my word for it unless I can find it on the web cam and show you. I was not going to run to the warm truck and go back out though now I am kicking myself  as it was so pretty.

It was THIS COLD!

100_5025

Wednesday it will be  50 F  time to go to the beach!

On February 2 ND and 3 RD  hundreds will jump in the Atlantic Ocean,  along  Hampton Beach,   in Hampton NH (there is a WEB CAM) they call it the Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics

I will get some photos of it if it is not as cold as today WHICH WAS NUTS!  We did have a nice walk and he did find treasure though brrrrr still trying to THAW!

This Morning

100_4731-001

JT is checking out the pretty fresh fallen snow as I do the same with my camera.

100_4732-001

We went for a walk as the sunrise broke through our tree line .

Me no coat and only slippers on my feet.

I scattered seed for the birds who prefer the ground and the squirrels.

I tried to place the seed up against the Lilac Bushes and Roses as well as Forsythia

to give them some protection from the Hawk.

On a beautiful morning every creature showed up looking for a meal.

So  I had so many things to watch today,  here  in the yard, as I chose photos for my website.

Hope you were able to enjoy your day as well.

Peace

Some delish winter meals as cold begins to sweep across our country USA

As I write this, the temperatures in Utah have been quite chilly, so I’ve been making one of my favorite “warm up” foods quite a bit:  soup!  January is National Soup Month, and it’s also the time of year when I really enjoy a warm bowl of soup several nights a week.  This White Chicken Chili recipe from our Fall 2006 Cooking School show is a favorite of mine, and it freezes well, so I can save the leftovers for another time.

I cooked a ham last night, so I’ve been looking for some recipes to use the extra ham in, and came across this Cheddar Ham Soup recipe.  I’m definitely adding this one to my recipe box!

Winter Gardens At Home(updated)

JT grabbed her Frisbee and me the camera and we went to walk the property so I could pick up any branches that may have come down it the nasty winds.  You will see there is no snow. Plenty chilly today.  The cat for some reason was running like she was a kitten again she is 12 now.  So I toss the disc over and over while making sure the cat did not leave and head out into the coyote filled woods, all the while capturing parts of our yard before it gets covered in snow, the 2 or 3 in. we had last week melted with warmer temps and torrential rains.  The river is actually at flood stage or 2 in. below today. Time to share our stroll around the yard.

I am trying to look at winter differently this year

I washed the windows to let in LOTS OF SUN

I have my crafts laid out on the table, in the sunny living room

I will make pretty things,  all the while watching the river and all the beautiful creatures

who will show up for food and water on the worst of days

Yes I will have the camera sitting at the ready to SHARE it all with YOU

Surf’s Up

A random man along our shore, during winter Catching a Wave!

I was walking with dog and also looking for sea glass but I decided to follow him

with my camera.  I have no idea who he is just a winter surfer.

So I came home with his Surfing  photos and some exercise for all of us and to top it off this is what I did with another treasure

Spring Days in NH

Well March did come in as a Lion but from then on it has been one beautiful Lamb!

So much went on after Irene blew through these parts last year, that I fell behind on many things in our yard.  So I took advantage of these warm temps. to some pruning.

The March 1st storm left my Rugosa Roses weighed down and looking uncared for, so this is where I began yesterday.

I filled this barrel 3 times from just the rose-bush closest to my living room.  I know I will lose so many blooms this year,  as the branches were loaded with buds but next year it will be fuller and healthier with roses all over it, once again.  Mental note,  trim Lilacs, Forsythia and Roses as  they finish up their blooming season.

This is how they look now.  Still plenty of height for the birds to be safe from the cat. We have a Red Tail Hawk who doesn’t seem to mind throwing himself into these bushes for a quick meal of a red squirrel or a Juno.  Ouch the thorns are nasty, they were going through the thick gloves I had on.

I had noticed from the table as I was beading that a little squirrel had really found the dried fruits on this rose tasty, so I took a few shots through the window and screen to capture him in the act

This little one would crawl through all those thorns and then run back to this spot and sit and peel it, then devour it.

oops trying to shoot this through window without it seeing me is tough, let me show a photo with his whole head lol

He is on thorns on one branch and stretching as far as he can to grab another dried fruit, they must be delish!

OUCH

This one was so tasty he just sat on all those thorns and ate it there!

I know I should have been beading but it was so nice out it did not take much to distract me ..  No sign of the hawk this afternoon.

I raked and raked the thatch from the lawn and then it was time for a little Frisbee with JT she is not used to these temps. so she rests a lot!

I will till the garden this first week of spring and add all my seeds for cool weather crops.

The BBQ is set up as well as the table and chairs so maybe tonight I will do Chicken or Steak on the grill and celebrate SPRING  and the warm temps she has blessed us with.

Enjoy your day as well

March comes in like a LION

March rolled in with 12+ inches of snow, here where we call home.  Crazy really for us to be surprised by this, we do live in NH but this has not been a NORMAL winter.  We have been so spoiled by grass and warm temps and the birds singing their spring songs.

Our little Juncos have know idea what is going on.  So there I am crippled in pain from clearing the yard for us and on go the boots to shovel a spot for them to eat seed, I scatter for them.  As I am watching the wildlife scratch the ground, crack the shells for the fruit inside, out of nowhere comes a Hawk,  no this time I did not run out to confront him with my camera, lol I just got angry at myself for making these  little birds, sitting ducks . From now on seed will be scattered up against the house or in the rose bushes, the bigger bird will think twice before going after one of our brood.  I know he has to eat but that is what rodents are for!

JT LOVES the snow!  She loves playing with her  ball in it and wonders why I don’t want to play with her like I do in summer.  Silly girl she is and such a wonderful dog for our family.

See what I mean!  She looks at me as if to say Let’s  Play.   I remind her to play with her ball and to have fun and  as she pushes it into the snow, I can’t even see it,  as I snap another photo.  I am glad she is happy and full of fun.  I just wish I had her stamina.

I call her in to warm up, as I wipe her down  we close the door till tomorrow, when I hope to wake up and see it was all just a bad dream and it’s really is a beautiful spring day.
