Would You Leave?

Daily Prompt: There’s No Place Like Home

If you had the opportunity to live a nomadic life, traveling from place to place, would you do it? Do you need a home base? What makes a place “home” to you?

I thought long and hard about this prompt.

Looking at my photograph above who would want to leave.

Many times it has crossed my mind,  like when nasty winter  Nor Easter’s roll in and dump huge amounts of snow.

You see I spent many years living a nomadic life,  in a big rig traveling here and there  but there were days I begged for a load to go back HOME.

I need a Home.

It is where I belong.

It would allow me to go play on the road knowing it was there to come back to.

  1. I really need a home base. i admit that there are times when I would like to say “to hell with it” get in the car an just drive. But I get homesick on a few days vacation. Once, we were gone almost a month and I got physically ill. I love the beach, new places, the southwest, but there is no place like the mountains of home. If i could just come home every night….beebeesworld

  2. my computer keeps loosing its track and wont deliver messages-i will write a long note and then it looses it. I wanted to say that i worry if anyone will care about my stuff too, but today, my daughter was telling me how she treasured our old family heirlooms like me, so I feel a little better….beebee

  3. I’d love to live nomadically to a certain extent. I’d have to have a home base though. Right where we are now. One after too long I would need to come home and re charge and to because I don’t know if I could actually live full time somewhere else. We tried that and look, here we are back again.

    1. Yes I ran away for 8 months and kicked and screamed when I had to come home but now hard to get me to go very far now 🙂 I guess being in a better place within made all the difference

I am glad you are settled too and LOVE HOME

  4. I agree Eunice. I often yearn to just walk towards the horizon and keep on walking and walking until one day I feel the urge to go home… we need a base and roots and connections. 😀

    1. I think you are right. I love adventure till I am tired then I want my home, bed and pets beside me and the sounds of my backyard birds signing happily that the feeders are full 🙂

  5. I often think I’d like to “hit the road” for a few months but I would always want to come home again. You (and Dorothy!) are right: “there’s no place like home”. Great post.

  6. Oh I am a greedy girl! I’d like lots of homes then I could travel between them.
I always thought I’d love life on a boat, then I could just move along, but I’m not a wonderful sailor. A canal boat maybe. 🙂

    1. Funny when I was trucking I thought about having a west cost home and it would have been a house boat in Washington State and this one best of both worlds but after divorce he would have got one so I am glad I didn’t. 🙂

  7. Dear Eunice,
What an interesting question you pose! I am too much of a homebody to cut my ties and adopt a life of wandering. I love to travel, but I love to come home, too.

  8. Exactly a year ago I got to leave home for a weekend. Ever since, I have thought constantly about traveling more, but I don’t seriously entertain the thought of leading a nomadic life. Like you, I like the thought of HOME, a place where I have close friends and where I have lived long enough to belong to the community.

From looking at the photo, I can understand why you wouldn’t want to leave where you live now!
