I told you about our little battle with a CEO the board put in charge and the beloved ousting of a true leader that all loved working for in https://nutsfortreasure.wordpress.com/2014/08/15/the-end-maybe-near/ here is the rest of the story……….
The walkout/boycott lasted 6 long weeks. Speaking personally for me I just used almost all I had up in the cupboards. I made just a few trips to Wal-Mart for canned dog and cat food, coffee and Half and Half, toilet tissue, I shopped the farmers markets for veggies and one steakhouse 3 miles away has a butcher shop and they had a mega sale on hamburger at just $1.99 per pound. On that day I picked up 10 pounds, there goes the diet :). I will use it for pasta, meatloaf, tacos as well as a couple of days for burgers on the grill after all it is Labor Day here in the US were we celebrate the American Worker.
Now you see we do have a story for us to look up to. Our area of the US known as New England is full of very determined people and after 6 long fought weeks we did what businesses here never thought could happen. We by standing together as one workers and customers alike we brought this family run grocery chain to their knees and made them yell uncle lol no not really but they did indeed see our resolve growing stronger and not weaker as they had hoped and finally in the 11th hour approved the sale of the whole business to the ousted CEO Artie T DeMoulas. of Market Basket fame. The only leader the workers and customers would come back into the stores to shop for. Have you heard the news where you live? Give a Thumbs Up for the little guy WE WON! We have Unions scratching their heads and other companies realizing the same could indeed happen to them if they don’t play nice. Be fair. Be kind to people and not always make it about the billions you will earn. Here is a link to a real writer’s story though I bet his cabinets were not empty when he sat down to compose his.
http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-market-basket-ceo-arthur-t-demoulas-20140828-story.html The motto here has been NEVER GIVE UP, Never ever think there is nothing you can say or do! Stand up for what is right.
In the end he bought his cousin out for over 1.5 billion dollars US while his cousin also an Arthur was over in Greece getting married. I love my brand new Market Basket store and will shop tonight for the upcoming week and set about filling at least 2 cabinets with canned goods :) you just never know when an emergency will arise when you must live off them. Grandma always canned and I would have but with all the injuries and surgeries this year a full garden just was not in the cards for us.
I will end this by saying POWER TO THE PEOPLE WE DID WHAT THEY SAID COULD NOT BE DONE, we stuck together to right a wrong and I am so proud of each and every worker and more so for the customers of Market Basket you joined in to have your voice heard and indeed they were! Happy Labor Day to you all.
