Drawing Class Don’t Laugh No Go Ahead

Yes I finally signed up to learn how to draw again.  Taking classes with a great artist at the same gallery where I try to enter the monthly Theme Shows.

I know my problem with a pen I hurry too much! I am excited to learn but scared at times to fail but really who am I actually failing as you already know I am screwy and unique lol trucking, photography, watercolor now drawing it is all who I am time to embrace me and let go.

You can laugh when you take a gander of these first attempts as I know I do but the journey to a better painting will keep me laughing, practicing and practicing some more.
These are done blind well the hand and binoculars and the other students I did fast and blind to start then we moved on to grid work now I can see the possibilities ahead.

bsdrawing
Pen to paper look at object and draw never look down to see what you are doing.

My poor teacher done by me FAST SKETCHING and I mean fast!  30 seconds to get then down on paper or really their essence.  They were all female but in mine they appeared to be men 😦 try and try again.

Now Showing In Chichester NH

I dropped of two watercolors matted and ready for hanging at the Wild Women’s Wellness Center in Chichester NH where the art of many hope to raise funds much needed for the animals of all sizes and shapes up the road called Live and Let Live Farm.

They give homes to animals with life to live but no home to live at.  They need food and care never mind love.  They open the farm up on Sundays at 2:30 PM for tours to see all the animals if you are in the area vacationing or if we have too much snow on our slopes 🙂 take a spin and a walk around the place.

So the particulars on the Artist Reception are go to RTE 4 and pop into the lower level of the brick building where Wild Woman Wellness is. Plenty of parking  around back as well.  We will be there from 5-7 PM  Saturday there will also be raffles, food laughter and fun as they hope to sell all the art to bring in money for the farm.  I have donated these two watercolors and am donating 100% of my personal sales.

heronframed

Both of mine are framed and ready to hang as are the beautiful works of art that have also been hung up for the show.  There may be bins with cards or prints I left before it was set up but will be there Friday night but I teach a class on Sat. so I will have to miss that and then run up to get them if they do not sell.

Stay warm we hear we may have another 3 to 8 inches of snow due Wednesday night OH JOY

Come on Spring!

A New About Page

26678684_10212716363158664_5792194805692809999_oI have updated my About page with news of what is happening around here.  This should keep me busy and smiling 🙂 Thanks everyone!

Time for a bit of an update I would say it has been awhile.

I began my blog as a way to connect to others as life for me was so different as the hustle and bustle of trucking was over after 3 million miles. Not bad for a female and I must say there was never a moment in the 30 years I held that commercial drivers licence that I was sexually harassed. I never had to lower myself to get work I am proud to say my work ethic was all anyone had to see to know I was up for the run.

I went from sharing lousy photos to then honing my skills to actually selling many each month on the different platforms out there. I then shared stories with you about life and it’s struggles and victories I must say what a ride it has been.  I took a Watercolor class one night, 2 hours and my world changed.  I once again shared with you all my early attempts and for those who stopped by to encourage me Thank You.  I have just begun my 4th year of painting and learning all I could about play.  Before my mom died last year she asked me to retire from trucking and to keep painting. Doors have begun to open and I no longer fear stepping through them.  I enter shows and never worry about what others think of my pieces you see I love each one.  They come from within and pour out onto that wet piece of white paper, each a piece of me and the life I have led.

I have set up a website here at  https://uni356.wixsite.com/folsom-mill-studio  with all the links for getting a print or card of anything be it photography or watercolor. I have joined Instagram as well under Folsommill where I will post videos, works in progress and shots from here in New England.  I am bad about putting down the brush and adding to stores never mind blogging to you all I am sorry, I am caught up in creating more than sharing I will try harder because I love connecting with you.  If you see me post something that speaks to you send me an email and tell me which store you want me to add it to. Zazzle has items FAA doesn’t sell I make a $1 or $2 for most items some just 10 cents it all helps to keep me in paint and paper.

https://uni356.wixsite.com/folsom-mill-studio

This link above has a drop down menu so you can find me.  I appreciate each and every one of you who has bought something I have made, you have helped me greatly.

Now for some better news I am trying to conserve my property here in NH for the Arts and will in time look for Artists to hold workshops here where their followers can come and learn.  First I conserve and do all the legal things and then I build a place for the teacher to stay and there will be a motel minutes from here for the students to book their rooms.  I will cook for the teachers and provide lunches for the workshop attendees and a ride to and from the motel if they do not want to rent cars though most will as New England is such an amazing part of the United States they will want to take it all in and maybe even setup trips for Plein Air excursions. It is an exciting time for me and I will blog as changes begin here on the property and I start booking their stays.  Do you create? Do you have favorite teachers you want to learn from? Yes it is hard work but nothing like trucking 🙂  Stay tuned!

Tend To The Ice

We had a very bad 2 week stretch of frigid cold here in New England this January but really just one or two snow events this winter but the ice, we must tend to the ice.

The yard was treacherous before yesterday’s snow and freezing rain arrived now not sure it will move until we have a week in the 40’s to warm the earth so she can begin to percolate and suck all of it in.

This photo is from 2 days ago when I cleared the whole walkway this morning it is covered again by thick ice once again.  Our Boston Bruins could practice out in the yard there is that much ice.

Temps. have to be above 32 F for some products to break it up and with my dog and concrete in between these red bricks it makes it also impossible to use chemicals and besides my yard is totally organic and I like it that way except when we could easily fall and break a bone, it is really that bad out there 😦WP_20180205_12_31_51_Pro  Stay safe with whatever you may have under foot. Stifle The Noise

via Daily Prompt: Stifle

Our team boarded their plane after saying goodbye to their rabid fans. With so much of the country having an opinion on our team and its players as well as coaches it is no wonder why we show up, fill the seats and parking lots for each and every home game.

We are aware there are idiots among us as you may have heard.  A talking head for WEEI Radio Station in Boston is now on vacation after voicing his opinion on our quarterbacks 5 year old little girl.  You know if he said it outloud and was recorded there  is even more of this mentality within him.  The GOAT will have all he can do to STIFLE THE NOISE.

GO PATS!

My Instagram Is Back Up

Instagram is Follsommill and my Wix Blog is functional at Folsom Mill Studio man this creativity is hard work never mind Zazzle at Eunice356 and RedBubble etc.  I work hard to make pretty art worthy of a print or a simple card and with 5 sales this week I am so blessed.

We are covered with snow and ice I mean rock hard and slippery ice so I stay in and keep my bones safe as well as my dogs and  I paint then upload images onto products you have all seen, as you have followed me from the start.

Today out of the blue someone from Boston bought a B&W photos I took of sailboats moored here on the coast of New England.  I love that photo but adore Boston.

By now you all know we will once again play in the Super Bowl.  From what I hear 60 % of those who watch football or say they do hate our team and want to see us lose. I get it I do, same old same old right,  lol  NO!   Who wins games like our team we either make it look like the other team never showed up or they come back in the last quarter and make the others cry as they leave the field.

Our team is fired up they want it bad who knows maybe Philly will this year but my heart is with the GOAT. Yes I am a rabid fan.

Here is a few new pieces I have been playing with as I watch them boys come from behind.

Happy New Year

It has been so crazy cold here.  I am so sick of listening to the furnace and space heater run but grateful I have them and a roof over my head.

Since our last 10″ storm the cold set in, record breaking cold I need my January Thaw but nope we are going to be under a blizzard warning tomorrow and through the weekend. They say we may see 4″ to 20″ hello after 8 it is horrid unless you ski or snowboard which I can assure you I don’t 🙂

Today it will be in the 20’s F and will feel like spring this better not be my thaw but I will use it to buy more bird food and suet, dog and cat food and I will make a cabbage/veggie packed soup I can heat by lighting a match on my kitchen stove as power outages are always likely here even though it is 2018.  All those beautiful and frozen trees just will not withstand the 40+ mph wind and wires will come down.  Stay safe as as there will be ice from the deep south all the way to Canada.

When I am not shoveling and snow blowing it away I will paint. I will sit in the quiet and let my creator guide my heart and hand and see what shows up on my wet piece of paper.  This is what my place looks like now before this coming storm and what I did to rest my aching back.  I am so happy to have Watercolor in my life.  I am in 2 new shows
though I will not sell mine, they will just be for show as I grow.

Stay safe everyone.

I forgot I am not supposed to paint boring scenes with everything the same height I will rectify that in the future.  🙂

Pats won again I am a happy lady.

It is now Christmas Eve here in NH and places are closing up early for workers to have time with their own families which is nice to see.  Besides sending out cards I did nothing for this holiday since mom died last Thanksgiving I really just spend the holidays here at home with boyfriend and the dog and cat.  I like having no extra stress as it is a sad time already.  I did keep the wild birds fed during our ice storm and today before the snow begins to fall.  They say we will have 4 to 8 inches I hope for 0  🙂

Less than 90 days left till spring I will keep reminding myself.

I will spend time cleaning out old paperwork, donating clothes/coats and giving away many items I no longer have the need for as it is a good time to purge and I have a whole week to make a dent it in before the New Year.

I am trying to decide if I should build a new home(without stairs) or redo this home so it flows better and a large storage room can replace where the bathroom now sits 4 stairs down. My knee is good but I know I will need replacements down the road so why not plan now.  Also have to lose weight and remain focused so I can do more as I get older.

I will continue to paint and take photos and in January I also begin to teach watercolor basics.  I can not wait to share the magic.

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas can not wait to hear what you all did.

So once the hard work of moving it and staying off it was complete of course I painted again.  This time I framed it, even a shock to me as I hate framing unless it is to remain mine.  Maybe it will be.

As We Move Into December

Just wanted to say hello. Sorry I have not been around but besides being busy I blew my knee.  Finally surgery is now just a week away!  It has been a long miserable month but I kept it full with a Scarecrow Contest, Plant Sale and not one but 3 craft fairs the last of which will be Saturday in Rye, NH.

I never put my garden truly to bed as it is now just getting cold at night with warm days and a gimpy gait lol I decided to just let it be I have to laugh as last night I asked him to see if he could get any of my carrots out of the ground as I made a cabbage soup for my week worth of meals.  THEY WERE HUGE!  I had a full warm belly last night.

I have been painting up a storm as I find myself resting a lot more and trying to stay out of pain.  Having lost my mom a year ago the holidays no longer hold family importance. I know it maybe sadness from loss which is normal but I continue to paint as she asked me to.  I will make some hats for men and women in the military and add to our towns tree.
I am also in search of an attorney to help me conserve my place for the arts when I am gone.  Staying focused helps me continue on the path best for me.

Hope all is well in your world this is a new computer so unless you reply I will not find you again though I will see what the Reader comes up with.

Here are a few of my latest attempts of Watercolor.  So many now available as cards.

Fluidity is what I am going for in this my 3rd year of painting.  Lay it down on a wet piece of paper and walk away.  One on left is on it’s way to being a card for my fall displays and the one to its right I am not sure yet.

Hope you are all doing something you love if even just one hour a day.  Happy September.

To those in TX and now all in the path of these hurricanes lining up one after another know we are praying for all of you.

Lesson Learned

I actually signed up to take another lesson this time Plein Air.

I packed my bag with water for me and my paper on what was to be a beautiful but hot day at my first attempt.  I had the hat but no umbrella.  I had my Easel and actually, even in the wind, it stayed up!  I added sunscreen to my face all day but tanned my arms.  I took out my sketchbook and tried to draw the scene I wanted to try and capture but even though it looked easy it was not.  I also had to set the easel up with my back to the scene I wanted as the white paper in that bright sun would have done my eyes in fast.  Seems there is a lot to this painting a scene outdoors.  I have the equipment, water and the most glorious scene of a Hampton Beach Marsh with a nest of Osprey what more did I need lol LOTS.

I sketched and then added water to my paper lots of it and mixed my pretty blues for an amazing sky then I laid in all my light washes for the scene I do not paint this way but I was going to try.  I saved all month for the $85 fee which included lunch and a critique worth every penny with Doris Rice and her experienced group who will follow her across the world I just personally like her as we are members of SAA in Exeter.

I loved my initial washes lite and pretty it was after all early am along the water’s edge surrounded by a high tide in this tidal area were grassy sections going from yellows to greens to darks I really thought it would be so easy SURPRISE it was NOT!   The next class will be drawing!   I am determined to learn all I can.

I will do it again soon very soon hey maybe down beside my river it is a pretty spot too and how bad can I mess up greens lol if you know painting you know what I face.

Thanks for listening.
Have a great week!

It’s Saturday

Well, I chickened out in the 90+ degree weather to try to attempt a watercolor masterpiece in downtown Portsmouth.  Maybe tomorrow at 5 AM 🙂

I have been getting this place together for many years of future use by the local artists as well as ones from far away.  Think retreat.  I do get pulled away easily by the visitors here.

Shooting for Fabric and Fun

It is a given I love the outdoors as well as trying my best to capture it in photos.  I will begin tomorrow trying to capture what I see with my watercolors.  I am hoping for loose works that are pleasing enough for the judges at NHAA here in Portsmouth who are holding a Paint Out this weekend.  Never having painted a scene from outside or photos well except for that one of my dog the border collie,  it has all poured out from within now some time for fun!  It will be in the 90’s so I will bring squirt bottles to keep my paper wet.  Some for me too.  I will probably find a garden with shade but paint the tree 🙂

Photography is another thing I challenge myself with like getting up close with a totally wrong lens and never using a tripod maybe I should start using one and work towards getting lenses to do what I want.

Another Week In The Garden

DSC_1216
It has been hot and very humid but not like our poor west has been enduring.

I have lots of dragonflies here in the yard all posing for me and watching my every move.  Maybe I am blessed with so many beautiful things wild included, because I spend time watching out for them.  I pick up and move turtles from roadways I also throw on my hazards(4 way flashes) when a mother bird is walking her babies across a roadway yes I do it for humans too 🙂  even in my rig for endless mile after mile I tried to always look out for others.  Being aware is all I know are you that way do you really see?

Cooler temps. are on their way they say for 2 days with periods of rain so I will continue to work at the pile of dirt with my hoe and shovel and yes a wheelbarrow we need muscles bad.  I get so out of shape painting but making new friends in the art world now and have even said I will join in on a local “Wet Paint Out” this month and yesterday I taught 17 others at my local library a few things about Watercolor, all fun but I need to put my yard first 4 days a week.  My hope is to offer a place for visiting artists to come and teach.  We have a motel 10 miles away for the students and the instructor could stay here and I would provide meals and bed and bath.  It is early in the process but it is my desire to leave my place for the arts.  I will need an attorney and a business plan to set it in motion but it is the way I intend to leave this space if I can. So time to continue planting pretty spots for them to find inspiration while visiting.

Painting with the rest of them and doing my best to follow the prompt.

I am looking forward to trying my first Paintout coming up soon in Portsmouth NH
not sure anyone will see it never mind offer it for sale but I have to try Plein Air and keep trying to get it right, it is how I can grow as a painter.

I now have art hanging in Epping, Exeter and Portsmouth not mind blowing art mind you but putting myself out there to be judged even though this is my third year of painting if I push myself it is only then that I will excell.

I have met so many really nice people out there.  A few so full of themselves which is good as they will end up keeping themselves company, just wish they could see what could be.  I will stay open to possibilities and not close myself off to the world outside my door.

I will teach a group my love of Watercolor on Tuesday wish me luck as I thought I was teaching children 🙂  I have made up 60 blank bookmarks out of wc paper and even punched a hole for them to take home and add ribbons too.  I will teach them about a wet into wet wash then add salt for texture and then when dry have them finish a scene from their own mind which we all know is limitless.  I just hope I can make them happy for an hour and a half or two.

After I spend time in the library I pack up and go to my own class to make the next attempts on this one yes very blurry but was giving my Facebook followers a sneak peak 🙂  (Folsom Mill Studio)  can not wait to drop in the next layer.

Stormy Days and Gorgeous Evenings

NH and Heat Waves in June

DSC_0686
This has been one of those years so far and it is only June when it comes to weather in New England.

During January and February, we were spoiled many times with not so much a winter feel.  I should have started plants in March and added seed to my garden in April but there was still frozen ground.  Almost the whole month of May it rained so I hope the seed and plants I put in will give me bounty to live on like last year.  My Sugar Snap Peas are only 8″ tall so far.  Yes, so far not the norm.

The flower above is one of many different takes on my “Starry Nights” Petunia.  I will be making cards for sale for this falls Craft Fairs.  You see them all but not many others do I usually only share to Facebook, do you?

Stay safe out there even if we can not get the weather we want we can do all we can to stay safe.  I learned a long time not to push my luck 🙂

Held our plant sale (garden club) we had a few different types of plants for summer.  I also went to 6 other garden club plant sales to show my support as well.

We were hired by 900 Degrees to complete their outside dining area.
I had placed Pansies there on Mother’s Day and in June hanging baskets and pots of fresh herbs of all types were added for scent and maybe their kitchen staff to use.

My First Show

My small local library opened up their walls for 55 pieces of my Original Watercolors and laid out a spread of yummy finger foods.  I made some punch and dessert and added a few snacks like Salsa as it was Cinco de Mayo.

They told me I had had the highest attendance at the library for a show and it was so nasty out I thought no one would show.  Grateful for friends and strangers that filled the space and had a good time relaxing and chatting with each other.

I painted some bookmarks and passed them out to those who would like one.  Not masterpieces just simple washes that show the way pigments mingle and settle in with each other.

I may do a Photography show down the road here as it was fun to see what ones they gravitated to in this show.  I also sold 14 originals yes I am very grateful for them coming and now as I am almost half way through my 3rd year I will learn even more about this medium I am fascinated with. Thanks for coming along with me on this journey.

My Watercolor Show Is Up

On the start of my 3rd year of painting I am about to have my own reception, at our local library.  Scary but exciting.

Ron and I hung over 50 of my pieces and I have 5 more framed pieces, they will go in this week before Friday night’s party.

I will make the punch and something decadent as they will have a cheese board and other snacks laid out for those who come to check out my art.

Good thing I am thick skinned lol I hope to see a lot of strangers stop in that will soon become fast friends.

Thanks for always cheering me on it means the world as I will try to take giant steps in watercolor this year.

The town and two businesses look so pretty.

I have not painted much as I have my first solo art show coming up.  I will hang my Watercolors in my town library here in NH.  So I have been busy trying to decide what will make the cut and what I should frame and what I will attach to a wire.  Art that is affordable will be on display.  Maybe the name of show should be “Hung Out to Dry”
🙂 it is wet media after all.

Here is one that will not be included as I was commissioned to paint it.

Watercolor Lesson

wc-study

Learning all I can in my Watercolor Lesson. This one is all about trying to get all 10 tones in a piece.  0 -10  White all the way to the darkest dark.  This is not a finished piece I wanted the background to be dark as night and the moon like tonight’s shining bright on the fresh snow. It is a 9″x 6″ study using just one color, Payne’s Gray.

Once done I will tackle one with a little color though I do love a very limited palette

Well when the latest snow storm was done we were left with 15″ of light fluffy stuff to move but walking behind a snow thrower for 9 hours is no fun and we each did that with just one break for supper, two machines and two with health issues I see a tractor by next winter.

Yard looks like the painting above but we have another 15″ to  bury all of our hard work.  Tomorrow 4″ Sunday through Monday 12 give or take COME ON SPRING!!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

It’s February

Not much snow to deal with this year just enough to remind us we are in New England.

Took this the day of Superbowl, as we took a walk into the woods to make up for all the sitting we would do when the game started at suppertime.  We had a nice walk with JT but she comes back more and more lame at just 10.  I hate drugs and since I do not take them I feel bad about giving them to my girl, so we go for gentle walks less leaping for her favorite toy and more of me just kicking a stick for her to chase god I will miss her when she is gone.

I have been painting now with more purpose.  I enter shows not to win but to be seen and grow from the experience.  I am gathering the ones I love and making more cards for this years craft fairs.  I have ideas on what to do with my 3 story barn maybe an artist  in residence,  maybe just a gallery with many artists selling their pieces here.  The dreams are endless thankfully or I would buy another rig and hit the road again.  I promised mom I would stay off the road and continue to create but it is hard when I can no longer pick up the phone to call her.

Not sure if I will keep this blog but if I do I have to remember to add small photos to posts after I just had to delete so many from prior posts that I go and add a huge one.  I will figure it eventually till then I will be here in the background reading yours.

Take care time for me to watch our Superbowl Champions in Boston celebrate once again!

Take care

We Laid Them To Rest

Yesterday we traveled through the snow to lay our parents to rest.  Dad gone since 2005 and Mom this past Thanksgiving it was time to join them just 5 days after what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. They gave dad a service for the time he spent serving America during the Korean War.  Taps was performed beautifully on a snowy day on Cape Cod.  This National Cemetery is so beautiful and well taken care of. All men and woman who serve their country should be laid to rest in the same way.

The Cape was beautiful yesterday but today you will see it buried on your local news stations.  We have about 2″ here in NH. and lots of ice underneath  as we have gravel driveways.

I also added a piece of artwork into the B&W Theme Show at #seacoastartistassociation in #exeternh

Doing What Mom Asked

I have been painting and I helped the gallery decorate a tree for them that they gave to a local charity.

I want to call my mom many times during the day and remember there is no longer a reason to pick up my phone, I just look up instead.

Here it is the 12th of December and our first real snow is falling yes it looks pretty but it will be a mess to move to make it safe underfoot.  JT will love being out with me as I clear pathways and wait for me to throw her a snowball.

The tree above was adorned with the members of the Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter NH and sold for over $200.00 which went to the charity for children locally.

I had a wonderful time at the 2 craft fairs I set upadobephotoshopexpress_15e2575b8e184cc480e64374f0804edb for and made so many sales I was shocked.
Really thought I was on Candid Camera lol
I offered cards like the scene above far from a traditional Christmas card but they loved them.

My girl is hurting and getting old but I was determined to let her see her favorite spot before we were in the depths of winter, buried by snow.  She was so happy which filled our hearts as well.

Merry Christmas to you all and Happy Holidays to those who celebrate a different one.
Stay safe

So Much To Be Thankful For

DSC_0887

First of all to my regular followers our mom has finally found eternal peace.
She passed away with me early Friday afternoon.  We will say our final goodbyes on Tuesday and Wed. surrounded by friends and family and on Thursday we will once again
give thanks for all we have.

I wanted to wish those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving, a table filled with your favorites and you surrounded by your loved ones.  As we age the numbers seem to go down so make this time special, in any way you can.

Happy Thanksgiving

Time To Say Goodbye Gets Closer

wp_20161020_08_57_37_pro
I have been with my mom a few days and my brother who live in the south came up to see her as well.  She mad it to see her 81st birthday yesterday surround by her family.

Try as she might the cancer has grown to such a size she can not swallow and keep it down.  How long can someone live this way?  I hope she speaks to hospice if not for herself but for those of us who feel so helpless.

This is so hard to watch and I know so many of you have been through this as well and bless you if tried with all your might to make your loved one comfortable.  I will be with her God willing next weekend and then the following one she will watch her granddaughter wed.  It is what has been keeping her going.

This will be moms last year so seeing summer end it will have at least left us with beautiful colors.Take care everyone.

Hi Everyone

Mom is off chemo as it was making her too sick.  My youngest brother and his wife are doing all they can to keep her safe.  We will get together on Sunday to watch Tom return to the football field and we will dine on lasagna, made fresh by my brother with hopes mom will eat like our last visit.  So hard as we age and no longer care or have the need for eating.  You find it hard to sit by, doing nothing.  There is nothing human about suffering when your body is under attack.  I continue to pray for her to feel no pain and to close her eyes one night and leave us peacefully but you all know the suffering most bodies are put through and I worry sick about her though I continue to put on a smile as she needs to be no sadder than she already is.

I had to go and unwind and that has always been on the road, so with dog water packed and batteries charged for all the cameras off we went across the lower half of NH and into VT.
Lots of pockets of amazing color kept my mind busy.  We are supposed to enjoy each of our four seasons  though all of you know winter is not my thing.

I am getting cards printed for 2 Holiday Craft Fairs I will set-up for. They will be of images that will make winter cards.  I will sell some original watercolors, I have sold 4 this month already.  I have a roof to re-shingle so I hope the sales continue.  I will also offer some baby items(crocheted) I will also try to make my table as pretty as I can for the holiday fair.  I did not want to do these shows but mom reminds me I need to live and get my name out there.  So for her I will keep plugging away.

Thanks for always being there.
XO

Now to learn to smile for photos 🙂

This one I just messed with.

I had so much fun selling in Dover NH with a pop up gallery Myrtle Street Gallery
in downtown Dover NH in front of The Chop House!
I also showed my Watercolors off and made more sales in Maine at a Yard Sale and since most shop for Antiques there it felt good.

Mom is hanging in there but hate that her days are numbered I guess all of us are going to be there sooner or later I am just praying she will not suffer horribly.

Happy September to all of you who were wanting cooler temps.  For you who will just be receiving summer I hope it was a nice as mine was.

Fall colors will fill my world then dreadful snow.

Have a wonderful day!

Kind of Lax

WP_20160809_11_13_17_Pro

You would never know we are in a severe drought here in New England.  My garden is lush and producing easily 20 pounds a day of food perfect when you have no money for the finer things in life, others take for granted.

I have stayed at home to tend to me and the fruits of my labor.  This totally organic all non GMO and mostly heirloom garden of mine.  With so much sun damage, skin cancer I bought my very first pair of sunglasses and a floppy hat. I go into the garden early and late in the day with my girl and her toy.  She rests while I pick and after rinsing them it is her time to play.  Friends say she needs her own Facebook page 🙂 I think a chapter in my memoir will be enough as you all know her.

I received really bad news last week, that after the 2 year battle to get mom back up and walking on her own she has been kicked down bad with hearing she has cancer.  She had the tests every 6 months on her esophagus but had always aced them.  This time the news was bad, it is elsewhere.  She now has it in her liver as well.  She is terminal.  She is trying to hold on to attend her granddaughter’s wedding in November  I say move the date up and let my mom go peacefully, but hey who am I.  I am angry after her fighting so hard to go back home with her cat that this is how the story will end, sad about her being scared but putting in another 6 to 9 rounds in this ring of life.  We made a big deal last Oct. on her 80th birthday as she made it, to now being doubtful for a 81st.  Life is not easy we all know this don’t we but not fair as well.  I will see her tonight and try to speak of old times, fun things and bring soft, yummy stuff, to eat.  Hope she loves Ratatouille and cheesecake.
I have some amazing tomatoes as they are her favorite and at this point there is no reason to avoid any food I want her to delight in their amazing flavor while she can still taste.

I have been inside on hot days crocheting with maybe only two days where I painted but not because I do not want to but because our town is celebrating our 257th birthday and I will be adding a table at the craft fair.  I will have a couple of  fused glass bracelets, some Watercolors and baby hats and booties for sale.  My heart was in it before mom’s news but now not so much.  Push forward and carry on as I gave my word I would take a spot of a now sold out show.  I have all kinds of hats and booties to complete and then package them for next Saturday.  After the 20th, everything the all volunteer committee I have been on for two years, will be behind us.  We will have a parade, craft fair, fun and games for the children and fireworks to complete the celebration.  I pray I am around to see what the younger folks do on her 300th.

I hope you are all doing ok.  I hope for those in the US you have not gone crazy over the presidential race.  We have to know by now what little difference will either make.  My wish is to kick everyone out of Congress/Senate, strip them of their monthly stipend for life and get new blood in, allow them 2 years at a time do something or they are gone.  No carrying the financial burden our country does for those who care so little for their country and those of us who reside here.  Yes I never speak of the crap out there but I am paying attention.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Please be kind to one another.

Another Day In The Garden

DSC_0195

Another day in the garden with my friends helping me with bug patrol.  Who needs poison when you have gorgeous dragons patrolling for you. 🙂

Here was yesterday’s  haul just before the glorious rains began to fall and man did it rain and blow, some are still without power and will not have trees cut and cleared or wires back up till maybe Monday afternoon when another batch will come through.  Growing up I do not remember violent weather but in 60 years my has the world changed.

WP_20160723_15_39_52_Pro

I have been living on Ratatouille

WP_20160720_19_41_49_Pro

even for breakfast with a poached egg on top. This was a supper for him he needs meat he said lol

We are still in a drought but not like other parts of the US or world. For now I get enough to eat though hardly any Apples, Pears, Peaches and Plums can be found since we had such a cold snap when they needed warmth and bees the most.

Hope you are all doing OK.  I will go through my reader and see if your posts show up.

Have a great week!
Goodnight from us all here in NH

Garden Filled In and Feeds Me Daily

WP_20160717_12_33_09_Pro

The garden measures about 16′ X 24′ I have flowers mingled inside with all the veggies as well.  Bring the birds, bees, dragonflies and butterflies to eat the bugs and pollinate was my plan.

I forage for greens each morning with my coffee and JT she is never far from me.  I go back out again to get things for my dinner though I better start adding chicken or eggs to my salad or I will loose all my muscles, which I will need come the end of the season, to put this place to bed.

WP_20160717_11_47_20_Pro__highres

Radishes, Summer Squash, Zucchini and Sugar Snap Peas with Raspberries were my fixings that went in with my Rainbow Swiss Chard and Spinach Salad.  We are in a drought here but that soil I bought is amazing just the perfect amount of compost makes all the difference.  It is light and fluffy still.  I wish I had grown one of everything.  I have beets, carrots, string beans, corn and spaghetti squash yet to show up but they are growing like mad.
