We Held Another Plant Sale

Well some of you know I garden and others know I joined the local garden club and helped make a few corners pretty here is an update on that part of my life.

This past Sunday we held a Plant Sale to raise money and to get others to add pretty flowers to their landscapes. Let me show you what we had.

You can not be seen any better in out town on a Sunday morning unless you were signing in church.

We had Perennials and Mums that were not quite open yet just enough to show what color they were going to be.

See just beginning to show their beautiful blooms.

We planted 4 in two of our intersections and two at the town hall, three at the Safety Complex, and  just three at the intersection close to my home since that one was so full of color already.

This is one of two planters that sit at the top of the stairs leading into our small towns Town Hall.  Pretty work our member did.  Remember there are just 5 of us and all part-time.

We are loving how they are filling in and are praying this winters snow plows do not destroy all of our hard work.

Hope you live in a town with a garden club who does things like this to make it special.  We just have 3 corners done so far but that’s not bad for 1 year and all that digging and re-planting and part timers.

Hummingbirds and CB’s

Well yesterday, the 10th of May, our Hummingbirds finally made it back here to spend the summer with us.
As I sat playing frisbee with JT I had a female hummingbird sit upon the clothes line just to the left of where I was sitting. She looked healthy and I was glad to have just hung fresh sugar-water out for them. The Apple Tree is what I go by. As it had started to look as if it would burst forth in gorgeous blooms, I readied their feeders.

Up here in New Hampshire we have the Ruby Throat variety of Hummingbirds and an occasional Hummingbird Moth visit us. You know I love these little fighters though, I keep learning more amazing facts about them.

So did you know I had just one tattoo? It is in fact a life-size Hummingbird and this was also what I used for a CB Handle. Now the handle was used when traveling cross-country in the tractor-trailer we never used our own names? Did you have a CB and a Handle? I was trucking when Burt Reynolds made Breaker 1 9 pretty famous. Many songs, mostly country ones, have been done all about trucking, highways and roadie. I loved Convoy’s line “Crash the gate doing 98 and let them truckers roll!”

I had some wonderful times driving the night hours out there on the quiet roads of America. I usually drove after we had our evening meal and kept laying down the miles till it was time for breakfast, when the ex and I would switch. He did not want me, a greenhorn, in all the rush hour traffic he figured at night with just other rigs on the road what could happen.

Well let me tell you one of the stories from so long ago. I was heading west and in Kansas and had stopped to grab a coffee to help get me through my 12 hour shift. The road was dark and filled with many wild animals you had to not only watch for but to avoid as well. While filling the thermos for my evening run I was talking with fellow drivers who would be going the same way, WEST. So we followed each other out and got our trucks rolling down the interstate and chatting on our CB’s we all introduced ourselves and they thought Hummingbird was awesome! I told them it was because I was FAST! They loved it and off we went hammer down, (pressing the gas pedal). We gabbed for hours with each of us keeping our eyes peeled for the police as we were not doing 55. Then someone who had the lead suggested we try something he had all his lights on and if you have traveled the United States you know what I mean, LOTS OF LIGHTS on his rig. We truckers have a special name for ones like this, Chicken Hauler. Yes we have lots of nicknames like our CB Handel’s, like your personal car is called a 4 wheeler. So with truck out in front fully covered by tons of lights and the one in the rear of our convoy(a group of MANY RIGS) with its lights on, all of us in the middle had just our marker lights on NO HEADLIGHTS! Yes not to swift, were we night riders of our countries highways, mostly hell raisers and non conformists.

So mile after mile with our radar detectors working over time ever mindful of State Police we continued this way for miles and miles at a very good clip! Then we hear the bird dogs go off(radar detectors had names too) as a trooper was headed east and running his radar and capturing us all speeding but also us dummies in the middle of the convoy running without headlights. Now they run CB’s as well and had been listening to us talk and I was a very young female and they were all experienced truckers and who do you think the cop came for, yes ME! I saw him go into the medium strip and it was such a dip I saw his headlights shining on the sky above. He then came flying up the highway behind us and by now yes all of us had our lights on and speed to about 60 mph but he had locked on to me he said in the end.

So my trucking CB buddies were gone, I was alone except for ex in the bunk sleeping. I was in big trouble! This officer walked up to my driver’s door and told me to come back to his police car. As I opened the door and started down the ladder of our cab-over Freightliner he saw how young I was and ordered me to go back in and get all my PAPERWORK! License and registration book and my Log Book! OH NO I was really in trouble I hated doing logs as I could not do them the correct way as I had been taught to in tractor-trailer school not with the ex.

So with all of this placed on the floor of the cab I climbed down then reached up for all of this and headed back to the waiting officer. I am ordered to get into the back where upon he proceeds to read me the riot act about how I could have been killed. I told him if I had to pay a fine on the spot he would really see me die, at the hand of my ex-husband yes really young and dumb! I was not to speed or play around and I had a CB and Radar machine so there would be no fines! In the end this trooper was very nice and gave me a $20 fine I mailed to them from home. Sadly this was not the last time I drove FAST, like my little Hummingbirds! I too had places to go and people to see.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Mom’s! I am going to have my best one yet! It is also JT’s birthday!

I have seen signs of SPRING

I have seen signs of spring but mostly they have been in the blogs I follow and finally caught up with today.

It has been a busy week.

I turned another year older and 10 years wiser.

I had all my long hair cut off, before going to see my Mom for the meal she prepared,  in celebration of my birthday .

It was time,  it had gotten long and dried out with all the high lightening over the years and it was just not me any longer.  I needed a wash and go look not the wash and clip up look I had been rocking for over a year and a half, even my hairdresser  who lost her business to a fire, had found a place to work so that was not my excuse.  I had no excuse except being lazy and holding on to hair that no longer did a thing for me,  I guess you could say a RUT, a really deep one.

So knowing I would be heading south to spend the day with Mom and stylist having just gone back into her shop all shiny and new,  I asked if she had an opening early and she did,  she made it for me by starting work early.  I was one of her first steady customers when she came out of school in the mid 80’s.  I used to pull up in a rig and jump out run in for a wash, cut and blow dry then back later for high-light. Well Tuesday was different I hugged her while boyfriend and dog waited in truck and she washed my hair and then I said words I never had before MAKE IT SHORT and NO high Lights I am too old.  She assured me I was not but got the scissors out  and proceeded to rid my head of all those dried out locks.  It was half way down my back,  so I know it will grow back but now being 57 and looking forward to showing my art,  it was time not to appear to be a hippie.

The work was done,  there was a huge pile on the new wooden floor.  She had cut lots of layers all over my head as I have straight and fine hair so now I could blow dry on a round brush and then add curls with the small iron for lots of tight curls or the fat curling iron for some pretty bouncy curls.  I may even use my old curlers now and then.

Now just picture this I was always a blonde then I added more blonde highlights and now that they are all gone.  I am no longer going to be called Blondie maybe just  Eunice,  for a change.    I missed weigh-in on Tuesday but maybe down even more ounces without the extra length.  I am not used to having real short hair.   I did have a Twiggy Haircut back when Laugh-In was a big deal as was she.  From the days when Charlie’s Angels hit the TV with Farah my hair has always been just like hers,  it fit me.   Now that is a VERY DEEP RUT hey, lol.

So Ron was great with it for a man he is cool he knows I just want a fresh start and it can grow a little longer and still look pretty. Now I  was off to see what Mom would say.  I hugged her when I went into the house I grew up in, no coat on and friendly dog at my heel and she never noticed.  After I made a cup of coffee and helped her make some moves on her Words With Friends, yes she is now on Facebook, I asked “so do you like my hair?”  She looks at me and says what did you do to it then says OH, OH I like it what color is that?  I said my own to which she reminds me it was always pretty till I messed with it in the mid 70’s.  So then she says you have a rinse in it though right to cover the gray.  I burst out laughing and said no Mom 57 and no gray yet.  She has had beautiful white hair since she was 50!  I reminded  her she raised us four brats and I had dogs and  not back talking children.  When I left I think she still thought I had colored it my color I was when I was 18.  Now my hairdresser took photos and never got to me in time for this post and for that I am sorry and one I took in mirror I do not think is good enough but I did add it even though I know it could cause me to really lose my wonderful followers.’  I did add the photos as it would not be my blog without them.

Nope not this one either. This was 5 years ago when  I did my hair the night before I took this photo,  with strips of a brown paper bag, like back in the day when I used rags to roll my waist length hair up on the ends just to make it pretty when in a pony tail.

Yes me above now down 70+ pounds and I want another  70 or 80 off but no longer can I hide behind the HAIR  I know I should have smiled pretty but I was worried about all those wrinkles  and the shower curtain, etc. behind me so I cropped all I could out sorry but I must say I feel liberated bathroom shot and all!

Now for the CAKE!

Mom may be 77 but she still can make a beautiful ROSE and yummy cake maybe I will miss next weeks weigh in as well oh no wait I won’t have to there is SNOW TO SHOVEL as the storm is no upon us!

I hear the sounds of spring in the birds voices.

I see birds arriving that stay further south wait you got as much snow as we did last storm but really we are now seeing chipmunks and mom had greens tall ones for her Daffodils already up so certainly it will arrive soon as this bout of 6 inches melts and the other 12 inches follows suit and the huge snow bank under the Apple tree well she will bear fruit like crazy with no water shortage!

It was so nice to sit with my feet up and read your blogs well the ones I got to and to sit with you and let you know all is good I am getting so excited to start out fresh and full of  joy and a light heart,  head too.
