Some Days We Just Need To Rest

Memorial Day here in the US can be confusing what with everyone saying “Happy Memorial Day” when in fact it is to remember those we lost on battlefields not so happy at all in fact a rather sad day to reflect upon.

Here most enjoy a parade and a cookout and who knows maybe as we gather more can turn their thoughts over to the family members who never came home from war it is wear to start in my opinion.  Now Veterans Day is to celebrate all who have served and no parties for that day as most work it to get the day after Thanksgiving off truly confusing.

Now to confuse you I have a shot of one of my visiting squirrels contemplating the day before him or her and maybe reflecting upon life while atop of my carved Cardinal.

Wish I had a shot of the flag or of soldiers lost but not forgottenDSCN0698_sqoncarving.

In The Old Days We Travelled By Foot

In The Old Days We Travelled By Foot, no wonder we all got to grandma’s house on time, for family gatherings.

Family and friends now live with so many miles between they must travel by air and rail as well as packing up the family car. No wonder today in the United States has become a day of nightmares for all even if you are just making the dinner, you begin to worry about all of them travelling to you.

Today will be one of epic weather events up and down the east coast,  in fact I am not even sure of any other disastrous  weather  across the US as we are just getting bombarded with news of doom and gloom and traffic nightmares.  Is it too late to hope for it to stay out to sea 🙂

I am hoping you all have a wonderful day tomorrow either at work or with family and maybe you will watch football and nap after the huge meal or go shopping for all the deals each store is trying to out do the others with, for your hard earned buck just please stay safe out there,  I do not have to tell you it is crazy out there.

We will clear most of what we get for snow tonight so we can get out of our yard by mid day and travel not so far to my brothers home for just a few hours of laughter and fun with family.  I made fresh cranberry sauce with a zip.  I stuffed the butternut squash and mushrooms no green bean casserole for this girl.  I made a hot artichoke and spinach dip that is so very cheesy not sure I will have room for the BIRD!

Tomorrow I hope to be the start of a new family tradition of loving and forgiving one another for being human with our own heartache and pain and know that life is worth fighting for and that family is all we truly have.  We all have faults and problems of our own and you know what it comes down to the miles in between.  No longer sitting around each others tables and seeing what each other are going through on a day to day basis makes misunderstandings more probable.

Cal your family and tell them you love them very much.  Swing by if they are close enough and give them a really good hug.
I swear if after 10 years I have been invited to be apart of my once loving family before Dad died anything is possible.

Keep the faith!

Should you find yourself alone stop at a shelter to help feed the people who have lost their way and families or go to a local hospital and spread some love and tell some stories and watch the difference one person can truly make, what ever you do please do not spend your day alone dwelling on what others have done to you.  That would be better than any turkey dinner.

Peace and Love to each of you and a big hug too!

Bronze age bracelet discovery in the Netherlands

OH how I adore finding lost treasure
🙂

Have a great day!

Dear Kitty. Some blog

Bronze age bracelet, photo by Limburgs Museum

Translated from NOS TV in the Netherlands:

Palette bracelet found from Bronze Age

Tuesday 8 April 2014, 22:03 (Update: 09-04-14, 08:05 AM)

An amateur archaeologist has found a palette bracelet from the late Bronze Age (1000-800 BC) in Limburg province. Palette bracelets from this time are rare. In the Netherlands there had never previously been found one, though some were in Belgium and France.

The man found the object during a years-long search on a field in the municipality of Echt-Susteren. In total he found 85 objects in the ground: bracelets, rings, beads and wire in a spiral shape. The Limburg Museum aquired them last year.

The museum assumes that the objects were buried as offerings or to keep them out of the hands of an enemy.

Restored

It is not certain whether the jewelry was used as a bracelet. It may also have been worn on an…

Damn Dam

100_2870

This has been here hiding in the woods since the 50’s

When you get close to the actual dam , it is posted  KEEP OUT

The woods before it were not

100_2871

Now there is an old part and then another concrete structure that is very long and very tall, all it’s for is to hold water in the lake so they can boat and they drain it over and over into this small tiny stream each year so they do not have to pull their docks up and out of the way.

This stream is the one that makes my southern boundary, which is being destroyed .  Year after year so then can keep their stationary DOCKS.

I never knew that this was 3 miles out in the woods behind my property and if it failed it would be catastrophic, we would all die down stream in minutes.

Such a pretty place but they do not want to follow regulations the state wants them to.  I thought I had problems.  Well next I will  find out how often it is checked,  as our state is cutting budgets and bridges are crumbling  what about DAMS?

This section is about 200 yards downstream

Yes,  I worked my way around to a place where I could get a different view of a dam,  that could truly wipe us out downstream.  I am now scared as we have had a few earthquakes, a couple of tornadoes and many hurricanes and this sits 3 miles behind me

Our Past

Image

We took a hike in the local State Park.

The dog and I took the lead, while he swung his metal detector.

I came around a corner and saw this through the trees.  I thought it was

a beautiful piece of the past.  The home it had kept warm was long

since gone, trees grew where it once was.  Now I am left wondering

who was it that used to live in these woods , out behind the area I call home and will

my place be reduced to just a chimney someday as well.  I hope not, this place I call

home is in such a pretty spot, then again this one is too.

History took place here.  We are apart of the original 13 Colonies. Battles were fought and won.

We love looking in this type of area for signs left from those times.  They did not have a lot in those days

by our standards but they were rich in so much more.   It was not easy for them to come to a new

country.  They did it though and this to me is all the proof  I need.
