Wetting A Canvas For A little Fun

I picked up a canvas made for Watercolor and it sat in my studio for a couple of months.  I was worried I would make a mess, still being new to painting and with Watercolor.  Well I picked up some Violet from my palette and made a very loose mix then I wet the canvas as if it were just a piece of #140 paper, I usually paint on.  Well it was so wet and I feared I had ruined it but I tilted it and let it do it’s thing.

I lifted some off where I wanted the clouds to be and then mixed up a little Indigo.  Being too wet it mixed and mingled. It seemed to be on a path taking over what ever it was that I had wanted and then it evolved into this landscape.  lol  I never use a photo just let it happen and this time I loved it!  Now I must buy another for a wild colorful abstract!

Learning How To Create

With just over a year in, learning all I can on my own about Watercolor Painting, I have to say I wish I had known about this artform so long ago.

After laying down some plain water on my cold pressed paper I add splashes of straight or watered down pigment and watch magically as things begin to happen.  Clouds, mountains and even trees appear in my landscapes.  Now to learn how to paint figures and animals to really make them pop!

Please let me know what you think when you see new pieces added to my website or Facebook page.  With all those years on the road there was never anytime for me to visit Art Galleries.

It Snowed!

No I did not take photos yet after shoveling for seven hours in 24 hour period I was too tired to snap a photo really that tired and I fell again.  I told him to return my boot cleats he had bought me as I usually am very steady sadly yesterday I was not!  I am OK bad bruise that will heal in time I have enough going on never mind see another doctor.

So today I will share some more shots from our day before the storm at the coast.  We went for a long walk to see the seals and snowy owls maybe an eagle or two.  Mostly seals and gulls as it was cold and windy and I knew I would need my strength for the storm clearing so we were only outside for two hours in it but JT had a great time with me as I did her then we watched her daddy look for treasure.  Oh I did change my photo on all my sites to the same photo except for my Friends of Living and Loving Facebook page so no longer will you see a shot of him bent over digging treasure but he is.
So here are a few shots of JT and maybe a landscape or two sorry if photos are too large and take forever to load I will work on that next time I upload. I need the largest format to sell and do not want 3, 4, or 5 of the same photos in my computer all in different sizes I am computer illiterate
so I do things the easiest way I can to find the photo I want to share with you and just click on insert photo.

Seeing him digging down on the beach thinking she would take me there silly girl she is fearless.
Image

She had never paid attention to the seawall but on this cold day feeling no pain she jumped up on her own and wanted to walk it.  Seems as she gets older I may have to watch her more.

Image

A pretty place to sit  and watch  a sunset and a group of very loud seals
Image

back to the truck to wait for the sunset and go home and await the storm good thing they brought dinner for the gulls

Can not wait till I get back to the sea

New England

What do girls born and raised in New England do on a warm winter’s day?  Well if they own a home and dream of spring days in mid January they go outside!  It was in the forty’s yesterday and the sunshine felt good.  I dressed warm enough for a little exercise never knowing how much I would actually do as I began.

Now if you are a follower of Living and Lovin you know I love my wild birds.  Last year over 300 pounds of just the black oil  sunflower seeds were devoured.  That is enough for me to use them as dependents on my IRS Tax Form!  We the winter is in full swing and they are once again depending on me to help them through.  So on this gorgeous day it was time to clean up some of the mess they made as the snow was gone in most parts from where I hang their feeders and spread seed on the ground for all who do not fly up to the many feeders here.  What a mess there was of empty shells.  So here it was mid January and I had a rake one used for raking leaves in the fall and a snow shovel and a ice chopper.  Yes we need many tools when you own a home in New England.  I raked the piles up and then picked them up to shovel over the edge where the ducks and ground birds could pick out the corn and unopened shells.
Image

This is one of the piles I was able to shovel and scatter below in the Lilacs and other small bushes.

Image

Seasons here often get mixed up.  As you can see by two of the tools I used a lot.

Then it was time to chop ice and do I mean CHOP I hurt so bad after three hours but you see it was going to go back to winter so I had to do all I could.

The yard is so flooded by the beavers downstream my yard ruined once again by the release of a lake in a river that no longer flows downstream.  So I had ducks here, three pairs of Mallards.

Image

Snow and sun and no cropping of this shot but you see what I mean.  I came in and wrote the State of New Hampshire a note saying to clean the river out of my yard and added lots of pretty photos hope it works.

I grabbed a few wheat thins and a glass of water and some yummy humus for a snack then packed up the cameras and JT and went to the shore.  I figured a nice ride after all the work I did and a walk with my best girl at the beach would make me feel better well I hurt real bad on way home but had a beautiful early evening there as her and I walked.  I stopped going to Weight Watchers so it is important to stick with the plan and exercise to keep all I have lost OFF even if it KILLS ME 🙂  She found a nasty looking tennis ball for me to throw and I thankfully placed her stick I had been kicking into my back pocket.  She always finds treasures just like us.  We are a perfect family.
Image

How is that for a pretty way to end a backbreaking day.  There are huge seals out on those rocks enjoying the day just like us.

There were even surfers who wanted to get out and enjoy a warm January day
Image

It was nice but not that nice! 🙂

Now today it is snowing to beat the band as they say in these parts and no matter if I am ready to shovel or not I must.  I will try to remember the beautiful night along the shore and when the storm is but a memory head right back over there.

Have a great Weekend

A pretty way to end a day

Hi Everyone!

Sorry so many posts lately, as I post too my Custom Pieces blog I also re-blog here and over on 20 Lines D Day.

Want to keep you up with what I am doing to get through the winter months.  Photography and Jewelry making and selling them as well.

I had to go see the skin doctor yesterday for my shot  and I really thought I would be in and out.  Stupidly I asked a question of her “What’s This?”  she precedes to tell me we will know for sure when the results come back on the procedure she is about to do. HUH ?  Me the SUN LOVIN GIRL?  I will not stress and I will start to behave.  I am just a few years from 60, YIKES did I say that!  I am so NOT 60 LIKE 🙂 That used to be so OLD!!! !  Wait so many of you who I adore are also over 50 so maybe I AM, damn how did that happen  lol so yes I am going to continue to have FUN!

After we left we headed towards the sea I always feel better when I can walk and breath in the smells from the salty air.  I felt it was right to go there as it is where all the sun damage came from.

I hooked JT to her pretty leash and  put a camera into my pants pocket and one around my neck just incase.  I know, I am laughing too, when don’t I not put it up to my eye.

Her and I could not legally go onto the beach here with her Daddy,  you know the rule breaker I am,  well today I was not going to push that envelope.  Be good Eunice.  So off we went for our walk along the coastal route even though darkness was close I had light colors on so we should be safe though an awful lot of drunk drivers take this road so I was extra careful to keep a watchful eye on my little black pup.   I had said to him maybe I will see the sunset and he laughed and said it is already almost done,  you won’t see anything except maybe the moon if we stay late enough.  Doubting Thomas he is!  See I know this world I live in and yes had I been at my regular spot it may have been better in some way but again I was on a beach I spent every day on in my 20’s where sunburns, really bad ones, were this norm for this blonde, blue eyed girl.

As we started out JT found a stick for me to kick for her to scamper after and pick up and give for me to throw again and again or she would drop it up ahead and I would kick and she would chase on her long leash, yes I held it with my good side.  Left shoulder too trashed and painful to chance it.  So up along the Mansions we went, very few with signs of life in them as it is winter and if you are rich why would you stay.

Well since he said the sun had done it’s thing I was surprised to see how pretty it actually was here along the east coast where she rose less than 12 hours prior.  Let me show you!

That box you see off in the distance on the right side of photo is not for birds it is an alarm in case the Nuclear Plant down the street fails then these alarms which are all over the area, will go off letting the residents run for their cars and make a run for a safer place not that I think it will really matter if a Nuke Plant has a failure.  None of us will ever be safe.

Image
These are out of order as you can see two different cameras as well this was the start of the walk with JT

Image
This was why he said I was too late and that is him heading out onto the beach.

Image
A view out to sea that we saw as we climbed the hill on our walk.
Image

So much better in person I really wish I had taken some classes on how to take pretty photos as the light disappears.

Image

Yes you can clearly see it is cold in New England.

Image
I loved the color this turned as the light from the setting sun set the scene.

Image

Just a stunning way to end a day or in my case as the sun comes up or hangs around all day or it sets I love this gorgeous Sun we have to make our life feel so much better, yes I swear  it is where I get my Sunny Outlook on LIFE!

JANUARY THAW MAKES ME HAPPY!

On the second weekend in New England, the January Thaw really kicked in.  Be still my heart.  I could not believe how cold it has been, really since Thanksgiving into the New Year.  We have been spoiled it seems.  Many recent winters we have had a little cold them warmth then cold again, see I really like that, I think.  This winter we had a vortex and it brought me back to my youth and really big snowstorms and cold weather.  We still have January to get through then February and March will follow. bringing with it who knows what.  We did not get the worst of the horrid stretch of weather, the poor folks in our countries mid section got hammered, so I can not complain just our backs and coastline took a beating so far, oh wait the heating bills have been crazy made even worse by a fixed income.  It is why I am trying to sell some photography here and there just for extra cash to make life easier.  My sweetheart will be making some things for me using his welding expertise for the upcoming craft fairs and yard sales and when we have some finished I will show you.

So what do we here in New England do when we get our January Thaw?  We get outside!  We spend time out in the warmth of a winter’s day, with sunshine on our faces. We so not ski but he used and we do not skate but we could, as the yard has so much ice all over where  we cleared of snow.  See we have had over 1 1/2 feet of snow then 4 inches or more of rain then freezing and thawing going on and finally he resorted to getting us some cheap cleats for the bottom of our boots.  Mine are still in the package his are worn in.

I take JT through the snow as I can not afford another injury like a broken arm or hip or for her to get hurt as vets and doctors charge too much. Wait can I get Obama care for her?  So steady as we go is our plan.  Chopping ice each mid day only for it to re-freeze over night.  You have to be tough to live above the Mason Dixon Line, where the north and south meet.  Yes the south suffers terribly too, with drought and heat and wicked storms that blow homes away and ruin lives.  What an amazing place this Earth of ours is, really we are all at its mercy aren’t we.  We either roll with the punches or give up.  So far what ever has been thrown in my direction I have been able to recover from, some sadly never will and I find that so unfair.  Ok enough depressing weather stuff, want to see our world yesterday?
After chopping  with the one  arm I have left of any use, I grabbed the camera and that cute JT and went off into the woods behind our barn to see what was going on, hoping to run into a deer or two.
Image

We found his tracks right away, just steps away from the rear of the barn.
Image

Some pretty interesting trees like this pretty Paper Birch peeling out in the winter landscape.
Image

This tree just a little older and stronger with the start of some curling  bark. I adore trees but you already know that 🙂
Image

This one has some company along its trunk
Image

You can see JT was all about this decaying tree who knows what had stopped here before us.
Image

Well beaten down deer trails could be found along with bear, coyote and fox  prints as well all leading to the stream and away from it.  Everyone needs fresh water.

Image

It was pretty bright and sunny and we were really enjoying the walk in the woods today I will hit the beach as it will be almost 50 degrees!
Image

Big and small deer living here on my property make me know I am doing something right.
Image

JT is loving all the smells nature has left behind in the woods and I am so thankful she never goes off on her own, she is definitely a Momma’s Girl.
Image

More tracks of forest dwellers.

Image

Scat left by one such animal. A deer has been here.
Image

It really was such a pretty walk in the woods with my girl even the trees looked joyful and no longer weighed down with snow and ice.

It was time to head back out to reality.  Time for some more chopping before supper was put on to cook.
Image

This is out in front of the barn, no wonder he is hunting for chains to fit his 1954 Dodge with dual wheels a lot of good all that beautiful welding of my plow being added to his truck did ,if it can’t move.   We SHOVEL and CHOP!
Image

Yes it is rather treacherous to say the least!  I must be grateful there is ICE and NOT MORE SNOW well not yet.  🙂  Give it a minute we are in New England!
Have a great week and I hope everyone who was suffering in the awful cold is also getting a respite if even for a day or so and for those dealing with summer heat and drought I wish you cooling rains.  Gentle not flooding as we will soon know that world all too well.

Have a great week!

Peace

Back Up Onto The Roof

I hope this is not how my whole winter will go.  Snow removal seems to run days together.  Tonight we are getting rain maybe lots and lots of rain and then some will have major icy event.  Trees will be lost as well as homes and cars they fall onto.  Our state has called in help from the states south of us as they prepare for the worst one of which could be no power come Christmas morning.  So many states face this year after year and we do every 5 to 8 years  and it is so sad to see very few real old trees in the landscapes.

OK time for some photos so you can see where I spend time each day.

Upon climbing up and across the roof I am met with this.  Heat Loss?  I would say by the looks of this, the job paid for to insulate the whole house, may not have been done as well as it could have been. The propane I heat with is selling for over $4.00 a gal. last I want it to do is exit the home .
Image

Wow I am getting quicker at this or there was less snow this time.  I did the whole roof in 2 hours first time and this time 1 1/2 hours.

Image

See the flat roof and the small pitch roof any snow on them and warm weather or rain like tonight would act like a sponge and cause the roof to collapse.  The insurance company would not pay to repair if I di not do my part.  I wish I had won some of that jackpot to raise the roof and cover it with metal.  OH well I will keep the shovel close by .

This is the way down!
Image

Since I blog I take the camera up with me in a bag all wrapped up soon I will need a structure up there to shoot from all year long.  I love the views from there just wish I was not on ice.

A Eagle flew over me but I had a shovel and not the camera in my hand so I missed that one but here are some of the views from the roof as I cleared it off.

See 10:00 AM not a drop of water on my land by 2:00 PM they had opened the dam AGAIN and washed away more of my land.
Never ending battle I think.  Maybe I will sell this place in a few years and buy a one bedroom condo by the ocean where it is warm.

Are you all done shopping and making your desserts for Christmas?  We will see my Mom on Monday and then on Christmas walk in the woods out back or a pretty winter beach.

What’s So Pretty About Winter

Ok so we made sure that we gassed up the truck, and snow thrower. I went out in the snow last night and out of 5 members in the garden club just 3 of us enjoyed something sinful.   It was so nice to travel a road alone in the quiet and then snow fell lightly.  I had my first Chi Latte LOVED IT and a piece of chocolate decadence cake. The chief said “I thought you were going to go sinful that is even gluten-free!” lol I just hope the plate was heavy she place it on or I will have to go shovel another 2 hours before weigh-in Tuesday!

OK I am hurting real bad from head to toes so let me add your EYE CANDY so I can go watch TOM BRADY,  man is he handsome and a nice guy, my EYE CANDY.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Have to make my way out to add water for the birds it’s been so cold the river froze over.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

6 AM this yellow beast was in my hand making pathways for JT to use as well as places to spread cracked corn and black sunflower seeds for all the ground feeders.

Now as you can see we did not get buried but 12 inches more than I want ALL WINTER!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Now the pretty abstract of ice and tree reflections upon the river are gone and replaced with snow.  When the sun comes out I will try to find a pretty spot for you till then watching boyfriend behind the machine and Tom on TV LIFE IS GOOD!

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING EVERYONE

Well spring has arrived here in NH and that means added joy and hope for better days ahead, not just for me but for all living things who need this planet to survive themselves. I hope the weather in your spot here on earth is not under water.  I want my old planet back when you could count on normal weather but sadly we have done so many things wrong and usually it is not the super wealthy who get hurt the most.  Not fair that I can say.

So I wanted to let you know I am so happy, no not just because of the flowers starting to bloom or the heat being turned of for most of the day but REALLY HAPPY, filled with joy from letting go of STUFF,  physically and mentally purging is good for one’s soul,  house too!    Have you started spring cleaning yet?

My son and I are back to being able to speak to one another and for that all the pain I went through for 10 days was worth it.  LOL  He is happy and putting tons of ART out there  and having fun isn’t that what we all want for our children.

I have been getting more of my prints out there for sale and soon will step back into my studio to melt some glass and see what this new joy will look like in beads and fused objects.  I will do some more Zentangle as well but all of that will wait till gardens are in and house is painted 1/2 a house painted has to end!

Beading with tiny seed beads has taken a backseat for now I just have actually been to busy and too happy to sit still and ouch the body feels it!  I may do a piece for special people or myself but not for sale anymore as they want them for free  see you can teach an old dog new tricks!

So let me add a photo for you all let me know if you LIKE IT lol

JT is checking out the pretty fresh fallen snow as I do the same with my camera.

100_4732-001

We went for a walk as the sunrise broke through our tree line .

Me no coat and only slippers on my feet.

I scattered seed for the birds who prefer the ground and the squirrels.

I tried to place the seed up against the Lilac Bushes and Roses as well as Forsythia

to give them some protection from the Hawk.

On a beautiful morning every creature showed up looking for a meal.

So  I had so many things to watch today,  here  in the yard, as I chose photos for my website.

Hope you were able to enjoy your day as well.

Weeping Willow

She really is weeping as her days are now numbered.  The Beavers started to attack her bark and left plenty of gashes to tell me they were going to finish her off.  This tress was a small beauty when I mover her in 1988 here it is 2012 and will be gone if our bodies hold up, by 2013.  I really need to be the one to take her down if left to the beavers it may take out the bedroom and us if we are in the bed.  We do not have thousands to pay a tree company so we will do it a little at a time.  I felt like we won in a way because one section they were gnawing on is now down, they will know I have had enough.  I know they have to survive as well but our loss of a home or possible life or that of pets we love will have us working hard to take it down safely.  I will use the willow pieces as stepping-stones in the yard, well till they become one with the landscape once again.  She did her best to suck up flood waters over and over and though she looks gnarly and battered for all the storms she withstood  her insides were beautifully healthy.  The squirrels have lived up in the nook for years as winter approaches I do not know where they will go but sadly it is out of our hands she has to go on our terms to keep our home safe from ruin.  There will be more grass to mow  but I will plant a new Willow in her place and wrap her tender bark with metal fencing then a pretty fence for the outside world to see and I will fill it with plants and flowers the wildlife will love for cover and food, it is the best I can do.
