The End Maybe Near

Have you read in your local papers all about the saga playing out here in New England?  The story of a family run business in turmoil?  Where one cousin was in charge and all kinds of money was being made and new stores held “Grand Openings”,  then the new shareholders wanted the other cousin to run the show.

Well it has been a well known fact about this families inner turmoil for those who grew up near the where it all takes place.  I have looked on from the outside and as a trucker I have delivered loads of goods that would be placed on the shelves in their stores.

When I moved to my home in 1988 I made 20 mile round trip runs once a week,  to do my food shopping.  No they were not the only game in town just a place that toted “More For Your Dollar”.  I have shopped at their many stores since I was 18 and now 58 I would say I have been a very loyal customer.  From the very old original stores to my towns brand new one,  I love them all,  what I don’t like is that family squabbles, yes we all have them, have to interfere with the shopping public.

You see back in July they told Artie T. he would have to step aside to let his cousin Arthur S. run the show.  The store was about to take on a look and feel unlike the last 40 years I shopped.  The workers were upset and unrest began pretty quickly.  The workers said “Bring Artie T BACK!”  You see he cared about the company as well as the workers and maybe just a little less about the bottom line as his cousin maybe.  The worker’s made signs. Some stayed home but most worked their shift and then stood outside for a month boycotting the way Artie T. was told to go.  They rallied behind him in a way that makes me so proud.  You see they stood up for a man they loved to work for and held their ground to the point where almost all customers showed their support for them and refused to enter any of the many, many stores of this famous New England supermarket chain.  Have you shopped at one of our Market Baskets/Demoulas stores?

Day after day we had to shop elsewhere.  Customers would bring their receipts to their local boycotted stores and tape them up as a reminder they had to eat and that this is what their beloved stores were loosing in revenue.  Store after store windows were covered with receipts how could management not see?  It has been going on for so many days that it is usually the lead story on our local news.  The duel being played out by the two Arthurs.

Well the recent news on this fiasco is that they will all will be fired should they not go back to the stores and warehouses.  Managers told to CLEAN UP the properties.  Signs of BOYCOTT must come down!  Receipts too!  See they have had enough,  well so did the workers.

It comes down to power plays and greed.  Artie T. from the moment he was told to go home said he would buy controlling interest from his cousin.  There came a point where this group of CEO’s stated another local food chain was interested in sweeping in to purchase the whole package.  I for one watched that store put a Mom and Pop run small chain out of business when they moved in 3 miles away,  with great prices and as soon as the other one failed up went their prices,  which is why I traveled the 20 miles round trip each week for 40 years.  So should they sell to them I will continue to shop my local Farmer’s Markets and Meat shops yes it will be more expensive but I have my priorities and principles as well and my allegiance is to my much loved Market Basket store.

We miss you Artie T.

Rock on to all those workers who held their ground and brought this company down upon their knees,  begging for customers and for their workers to return to their posts,  when maybe they should stayed on theirs knees just a bit longer and gave thanks to God for all they have enjoyed for so many years here in New England.

I will miss you so much if you go.
A valued customer indeed

Warning: Frostbite in Dogs

Animals get frostbite as well

Frostbite in Dogs from VAC Animal Hospitals

What is frostbite?

frostbite_in_dogs_general_information-1_2009Frostbite or congelatio in medical terminology [next step] is the damage that is caused to skin and other tissues due to extreme cold. When the environmental temperature drops below 32°F (0°C), blood vessels close to the skin start to narrow or constrict. This constriction of the blood vessels helps to preserve core body temperature by diverting blood toward the core and away from the cooler parts of the body. In extreme cold or when the body is exposed to cold for long periods, this protective mechanism can reduce blood flow in some areas of the body, especially the extremities, to critically low levels. The combination of cold temperature and reduced blood flow can allow the tissues to freeze, causing severe tissue injury. Frostbite is most likely to happen in body parts farthest from the heart and in tissues with a…

Daily Prompt: Barter System/My Skills

I live in New England where there is still lots of opportunities to barter.  You just have to ASK.
I would love to put myself out there to get some things done around here without reaching for my checkbook or breaking what is left to my back.

Let’s see I have lots of SKILLS to Barter with but are they worthy of what I want them to do for me? Not sure. I guess I am afraid,  yes me, to find they have no use for a house sitter, driver, photographer, dog trainer, gardener, errand runner, cleaning, debris removal, pruning, painting, planting, dead-heading and babysitting.

I am worth a lot for what I know but would they be worthy of real work I need done HERE.

Guess I better get busy since I have yet to add my Barter request to Crag’s  List  wait are you good at painting real tall barns

I Always Seem To FIGHT

The Daily Post Prompt Fight or Flight!

Looking back at my adult years for some reason I always rush in.

I never stop and take the time to see if there will be any danger in doing so.

Maybe it started in my home as a child and Dad pulling over to help stranded motorists or maybe all the years I was a Girl Scout.

I have met some wonderful people by stopping and asking “Can I help you?”

Some I didn’t have to ask because if I had not done something they would have died.   I could do with out worry and drama but it is who I am,  I recuse animals or people and yes there have been times I wish I had put more thought into it.

Grasses free of filth

Today the  shoreline may get a rest, from the hoards of visitors  she has had during the stretch of beautiful summer weather.

It is cool and brisk this morning.

I myself can’t wait till Labor Day , to have the beach all to myself once again.  Naughty I know but truthful.  The traffic and

mess left behind , from filthy people,  may cost the state more to pick up after than they say they make on TOURISTS,lol.

I love the tourists it’s the locals who leave the mess, awe but soon vacations will be over and for some back to school they shall go.

Enjoy your last month of summer and please remember to pick up after yourselves.

Pow Wow

Here is New England yesterday the weather was going to be beautiful warm and sunny.  I wanted to do something different this weekend after last weekends nightmare.

I got out one of the free papers and went to see what was happening in our area.  Let’s see there was a County Fair,  Craft Fairs, Yard Sales and an American Indian Pow Wow.  We

decided to take a ride to Maine to  attend the Pow Wow.  Highway traffic was backed up for miles so we went off the beaten track and made our way north.  It took place in Wells Maine,

along the  Atlantic Ocean.

The photos are of some of the dancers from the different tribes who drummed and danced there yesterday.  They  will be there till 5 PM tonight if you are in the area.

story continues……from 20 Line or Less Post

As he searched for treasure in and around the boulders and gravel I found GOLD in a

friendship with Marie.

There may have been 3 vehicles parked in the shade along this stretch of route 112

but the woman in both made their way over to say hello and to say h to JT.

This part of the story will focus on Marie.  She said she was from MA in an area I used to go to once a

day, in my Big Rig.

I was siting  in a chair throwing sticks or a frisbee to JT  and told her about my back and she said she

knew my pain.

In fact today was the first time she had left the home with her husband for fun in 8 years.  She had been

hurt in an accident at work, boy could we relate.

We talked and talked and tears flowed from both of us.

We knew each others pain.

She saw me as strong . It was not till we spoke she knew I too, was broken.

She has to go through exactly what I had gone through for 10 years for her ,now

8. years of hell.   I told her to hang on it would soon be over.

It is what they do to hard workers who get hurt and go after them for damages.

They want us to give up and God knows I came close more than once.

She has to fight for disability.  I told her how.  I asked her to please just not to give up.

After hugging her and telling her it would be OK my mate saw us crying and said

“Do you know each other?” he was smiling as this happens so much he is used to it.

Marie told him I was so special and he smiled again and said he knew.  He also told her

this happens to me a lot now that  I have started to really LIVE my life again.  I am glad

it is with him.

So I let Marie know how to reach me.  I do not know if she will  but one thing I am sure of

is the fact she left that river’s edge a little stronger inside.  She needed to meet someone who had gone

through the pain and depression and had come out the other side.  Yes battered and bruised but no

longer busted and broken.   I refused the drugs finally and am finally Living and Lovin   ( the name of my

BLOG )
