Sugar Snap Pea in NH
Sugar Snap Peas grow in NH
2nd haul with 4 or 5 more to come with all the rain they caught up quickly
2nd Harvest

The garden veggies should begin in earnest now though these peas will begin to wain as this heat turns up and beans do their things.

Have a great July and a Happy 4th for those here in the states.

Almost 200 In The Landcape

Boy am I getting some fresh air.

I bought bare root plants for my piece of property from the State of NH on Thursday yes it is only Monday, lol.  I used my tractor bucket to haul them fresh water and saved my knees many hours of back and forth time.  Then it rained a nice gentle rain all night I think.

These trees and bushes were ready to plant as many had their leaf buds all swollen I hope at least 1/2 take though my real hope is that each will thrive here on the seacoast of NH.  The wildlife will love this place even more and there will be so much greenery and blossoms for painting inspiration.

I bought a Song Bird package with 25 plants, 5 each. Such as Elderberry, Hazelnut and Cranberry.  The next package came with 10 Ninebark, then a bag full of 25 Dogwoods Red, Silky, Yellow, Gray as well as alternate leaf variety.  Another has my Deciduous  beauties Red and White Oak 5 each, Silver and Sugar Maples 5 each, Black Walnut and White Cedar too I also ordered 10 extra White Cedar for screening. I also got 10 Spiceberry Bushes.  Then a Christmas Tree package of 5 different varieties for another 25 trees yes I know I should have paced myself doing some in spring and fall but you have to get them when available as most years they sell out.  They ran out of White Birch which I wanted ten of for the rear of my piece of land I will hunt for babies in my yard 🙂

With the trees and bushes in place and my tractor and pile of compost and loom still large I will add shade loving perennials under my grown trees and sun lovers at the bases of others.  I will hit all the local garden club plant sales as I always do being a member of our towns club it is good to support others making this state as pretty as they can.

I have just one more drawing class tomorrow and then I can get back to my watercolors as I sit outside with my girls(cat and dog)and take in all the new scenes this place will have to get inspiration from.

Have a wonderful week!

BOTANY MAYHEM

We have had a few beautiful days here in New England but changes are coming.  So as I watched the Boston Red Sox play their way into another World’s Series I made lists of things that needed to be done around here.  I worked at planting my two huge Mums from the garden club sale,  they are the hardy type so with any luck they will rest in the winter and be in bloom for next fall.  Lawn mower was placed in the barn and snow blower brought up to the shed.  You know regular stuff all homeowner must do unless they have a handyman yes my man is handy but you know the kind I am taking about.

So as I checked off each item I had on my list,  I came to my Monstrous Spider Plant.  There was no way I could bring it in for another year like it was.  It is in full bloom,  mid October in New Hampshire,  oh how she loves the outdoors.  Well I am sure it will  go into shock and I also hope they all make it.  There is nothing like having a living plant in each and every room.

So JT and I headed over to our local Wal-Mart  so I could by some potting soil.  I picked up six bags, yes it would take at least that to begin the task at hand.  We headed home and I played with her for 15 minutes and then I began.

I usually make up my own mix but this will have to do,  with shoulder pain  there will be   no stirring dirt for me .

This is worse than I thought, as this is a huge flower-pot.

See what I mean.

I really do not know how it could be so gorgeous with so many flowers and babies, this is crazy look at those roots!

DRASTIC MEASURES

OH yes it was bad.

Lots of the Mother plants babies came of the plant
and would need to go into water or straight into new soil.

Making headway!

The last of them are potted up.  I extra-large pot,  two large ones and three medium ones.

So my yard and home plants have been cared for,  tools put away that  I use spring, summer and fall.

I said a little prayer for them to all make it through till spring,  when they will be placed  outside to soak in the sunshine and drink in the rains.

Let this be a reminder to knock your plants from their pots loosen up the old soil if you can get away with new soil added  and you will not have Botany Mayhem  occur at your place.

LOVE YOUR LIVING THINGS as much as you do your silly things.

PEACE

Life Goes On In New Hampshire

100_5642

The days have been getting just a little warmer.  Really hard with all the snow not to have the refrigerator happening.

We worked two days on removing the last 11 inches from the driveway areas.  Never made it to the roof this time we were hurting too bad it

has been a very long winter.  Spring is almost here Robins searching for food in areas clean of snow and ducks as paired up and waiting for

us to pull out the beavers dam so they can lay their eggs.  I will wait till the eight of April to start my seeds it will be awhile before the safe

date of May 30th in my part of the country  for hard frosts to hit. I may get the peas in the yard  where snow has been removed or maybe in

a pot would work better.  I will grow potatoes in a bucket, celery in pots and lots of herbs in containers with a few flower seeds added to

make them prettier.  I have a lot of work a head of me.  I have half a house to finish getting the paint on and 3/4’s of the barn to finish.

I can not wait till it is completely done.

I also have lots of divisions in plants I have here on the property to start my English Garden.  We have set the date for our Garden Club

Plant Sale for May 4th usually it is May 30th but we will combine it with our yard sale to raise funds to place flowers throughout our town.

I am not good at fundraising well I have not done that sort of thing since selling Girl Scout cookies way back when.  I hate asking people for

money  the cookies well they got to eat those.  I am hoping the 4 other woman in our group who go shopping around town can pick up the

slack and do that part.  I am the secretary so I can do follow-ups., place ads and get the word out we are looking for donated items and

plants they may have that can be divided and sold to raise money.  We are hoping to get enough money to hang two huge flower pots from

the granite bridge downtown and to plant two more intersections with gorgeous color.

We are going to ask the local businesses for items to add to a table for raffles, gift certificates  or other creative ways to get their name as

supporters out there. We have hair salons, barber shops, flower shops, coffee shops, diners, gas stations which hopefully can do even a gift

of $10 or $15  that we can raffle and raise money for flowers.  Money is tight for everyone.  No one has extras these days.  We will do the

best we can to make our town look pretty for those who live here as well as for those just passing by.

Really isn’t much to say right now when I come back maybe there will be a story or two or maybe nothing at all.   I won’t know till the 7th of

April.   I will spend the next few days trying to catch up with all of your wonderful blogs.  I miss being here daily but there is not much to

share of late.  I set up the site to sell some prints and its own Facebook page so that can run itself now. I have the other blog for photos and

I will go through and delete all but the best in my eyes.   Time for changes to begin not only with me but my surroundings.  Make this place

comfortable and pretty, continue with getting healthy but taking more hikes with JT.  I will spend more time with a tripod sitting along the

coast and capturing the new day as she starts to come up at the horizon.  Life is good simple but good.  Hope all is well with all of you.
