We sure will welcome it after #quinn
Still no good news about my Mom she is now done with third surgery on new knee only this time she came out with it wired together and is now in a 30 lb fiberglass cast and she has no muscle left after a year and a half in and out of rehab hospitals. We pulled her out of last one because we were scared for her even though we liked the people just not enough help when one is helpless. Just been a plain nightmare for all of us but mostly Mom.
The snow all 8′ of it is just about gone and even with that huge melt we were under a severe red flag warning for fires.
We are getting the place ready for Spring /Summer so much to do but am looking forward to flowers blooming and not the store bought variety I bring Mom.
No bears have stopped by and my male turkey must be off hunting for a bevy of girls lol isn’t life simple at times.
The stress even with Watercolor painting almost daily has done a number on me. 5 pounds gained and no covered with red spots they say is Psoriasis. OH joy itchy, scratching and just trying to smile and de-stress 😦 So many lotions and potions will now be lathered on. I hate it when our bodies fail us.
Sorry not much good news well then again the snow is gone 🙂
Here is one of my latest paintings you can see I am trying to find Peace.
The best day for me to linger would be the day the horrid winter, truly gives up it’s strong hold and allows spring to arrive with all of it’s beauty.
You know the kind of day, snow banks filthy from too many months of winters cold, when the earth lets out a sigh and you witness it begin to drink up the moisture that once would only allow more ice to form. When the frost beneath the yard was just too thick to allow for drainage of any kind to begin. It is the kind of day I wait so long for. I hear about it coming on the news and I get ready. I bring out the table and chair from the barn, yes we are tough here up in the northeast.
As the morning arrives I will be ready. The sun will come up and greet me at the kitchen window, beside the coffee maker where I will stand and wait for it to finish all the while I will soak in the first rays of this special day. By the second cup JT and I will make our way to the table and chair lying in wait for me to sit and linger.
The birds will be signing their absolute prettiest tunes and the Apple tree will have swollen buds as will the Forsythia. This is how I will spend each morning after that first day of warmth, lingering in the yard with my girl, soaking in the suns warmth only from now on with sunscreen.
I stepped into Spring yesterday in Boston and it felt so good!
For the first time in just about 50 years I attended the Boston Flower Show without my Mom.
I climbed aboard a van here in NH with 15 strangers and took the 52 mile ride southbound, yes no wheel in my hand, another first!
It was a day full of sunshine and after surgery on Monday I thought about not going with the wound on my face and bruises too but I said the hell with it GO you won’t know a soul and if they want to stare or look away that is about THEM. I was surprised by how many actually asked me if I was OK. Many kind souls I met on my day away from home.
It was a Friday and the place was packed! Many like me just needing to SEE SPRING!
The theme this year was about romance in our gardens and we were greeted by a symbol of Love Hippie Style!
They were standing in between 2 stone birds and gorgeous flowers of Purple and White.
Remember Romance is the word of today and yes there were beds of flowers and actual beds placed within the gorgeous gardens.
Flowers in many spots
Pups wanted to go on rides too
Flowers of every color
Ideas for your home and yard were also plentiful at this flower show.
Actually not enough plants and flowers for this girl after having attended so many years when it used to be about the BLOOMS.
Every thing is just getting so commercial I want to have a show where it is Plants, Trees and so many flowers your senses are on overload and they could fill booths with ways to grow your own favorites, raise your own bees and be kind to our earth that is what is really needed isn’t it?
A Beekeeper and the delicious nectar from her local bees.
Now a booth like this will always grab my attention as it was bright and cheerful and had a good message for all of us who grow flowers or our own food because we need bees to pollinate so much of what we depend on for food and beauty don’t we.
Support your local garden shops as well as farmer’s markets every chance you get and tell them their hard work is appreciated.
Have a great weekend
SPRING IS COMING I swear!
Today I am back home to reality, which is 3 to 7 foot snow banks but the sun is showing now and then and melting is happening ever so slowly for which I am thankful for or we would be faced with horrible floods.
On my head and everything else here in New England.
Not discouraging these Ants that are all about the sweetness within this Peony bud.
Tons of Lilacs this year but all this rain weighs them down and turns than brown.
Icelandic Poppy also covered in raindrops
We have a little water in the river lined by so much glorious GREEN it has been real low since they closed the dam to get the big lake ready for boating, camping and fishing.
Can you see her above?
This is the view out my Kitchen window. I want to put a huge umbrella up so she is not soaked all night poor creatures who have to deal with all that weather throws at them.
So let’s see I did a new thing with beads yesterday and was gone from home for almost 6 hours boy I have not done that since I went away. Felt great!
Wait till I show you what I did!
One of the woman in the Gardening Club with me was home and we were given over 40 potted perennials and she came with me this morning to lad them into the truck. Big help and they are gorgeous!
I will grab some photos to show you the beading and a few other things I love the new reader I use can you add RSS feed to your blogs as it is how I add each one I follow some already are using it.
Happy Memorial Day to all of you and ones who will be traveling, please do be very careful.
Well yesterday, the 10th of May, our Hummingbirds finally made it back here to spend the summer with us.
As I sat playing frisbee with JT I had a female hummingbird sit upon the clothes line just to the left of where I was sitting. She looked healthy and I was glad to have just hung fresh sugar-water out for them. The Apple Tree is what I go by. As it had started to look as if it would burst forth in gorgeous blooms, I readied their feeders.
Up here in New Hampshire we have the Ruby Throat variety of Hummingbirds and an occasional Hummingbird Moth visit us. You know I love these little fighters though, I keep learning more amazing facts about them.
So did you know I had just one tattoo? It is in fact a life-size Hummingbird and this was also what I used for a CB Handle. Now the handle was used when traveling cross-country in the tractor-trailer we never used our own names? Did you have a CB and a Handle? I was trucking when Burt Reynolds made Breaker 1 9 pretty famous. Many songs, mostly country ones, have been done all about trucking, highways and roadie. I loved Convoy’s line “Crash the gate doing 98 and let them truckers roll!”
I had some wonderful times driving the night hours out there on the quiet roads of America. I usually drove after we had our evening meal and kept laying down the miles till it was time for breakfast, when the ex and I would switch. He did not want me, a greenhorn, in all the rush hour traffic he figured at night with just other rigs on the road what could happen.
Well let me tell you one of the stories from so long ago. I was heading west and in Kansas and had stopped to grab a coffee to help get me through my 12 hour shift. The road was dark and filled with many wild animals you had to not only watch for but to avoid as well. While filling the thermos for my evening run I was talking with fellow drivers who would be going the same way, WEST. So we followed each other out and got our trucks rolling down the interstate and chatting on our CB’s we all introduced ourselves and they thought Hummingbird was awesome! I told them it was because I was FAST! They loved it and off we went hammer down, (pressing the gas pedal). We gabbed for hours with each of us keeping our eyes peeled for the police as we were not doing 55. Then someone who had the lead suggested we try something he had all his lights on and if you have traveled the United States you know what I mean, LOTS OF LIGHTS on his rig. We truckers have a special name for ones like this, Chicken Hauler. Yes we have lots of nicknames like our CB Handel’s, like your personal car is called a 4 wheeler. So with truck out in front fully covered by tons of lights and the one in the rear of our convoy(a group of MANY RIGS) with its lights on, all of us in the middle had just our marker lights on NO HEADLIGHTS! Yes not to swift, were we night riders of our countries highways, mostly hell raisers and non conformists.
So mile after mile with our radar detectors working over time ever mindful of State Police we continued this way for miles and miles at a very good clip! Then we hear the bird dogs go off(radar detectors had names too) as a trooper was headed east and running his radar and capturing us all speeding but also us dummies in the middle of the convoy running without headlights. Now they run CB’s as well and had been listening to us talk and I was a very young female and they were all experienced truckers and who do you think the cop came for, yes ME! I saw him go into the medium strip and it was such a dip I saw his headlights shining on the sky above. He then came flying up the highway behind us and by now yes all of us had our lights on and speed to about 60 mph but he had locked on to me he said in the end.
So my trucking CB buddies were gone, I was alone except for ex in the bunk sleeping. I was in big trouble! This officer walked up to my driver’s door and told me to come back to his police car. As I opened the door and started down the ladder of our cab-over Freightliner he saw how young I was and ordered me to go back in and get all my PAPERWORK! License and registration book and my Log Book! OH NO I was really in trouble I hated doing logs as I could not do them the correct way as I had been taught to in tractor-trailer school not with the ex.
So with all of this placed on the floor of the cab I climbed down then reached up for all of this and headed back to the waiting officer. I am ordered to get into the back where upon he proceeds to read me the riot act about how I could have been killed. I told him if I had to pay a fine on the spot he would really see me die, at the hand of my ex-husband yes really young and dumb! I was not to speed or play around and I had a CB and Radar machine so there would be no fines! In the end this trooper was very nice and gave me a $20 fine I mailed to them from home. Sadly this was not the last time I drove FAST, like my little Hummingbirds! I too had places to go and people to see.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Mom’s! I am going to have my best one yet! It is also JT’s birthday!
Leaves have begun to unfurl and show their beauty to those who wait for any sign.
Flowers in hanging baskets become all the rage
Even the beautiful Forsythia that lines this property had visitors! I love this beautiful, very tiny golden bug. I do love Macro for what shows up that I never saw .
Miss you all
We had our Garden Club plant sale yesterday wish it had been a sell out.
Painted almost the whole front side of our house today, ouch too much.
It has been so gorgeous here like a present for what we had to deal with this past winter.
I hope you are seeing better weather. We go to Boston tomorrow and for the first time I am uneasy about traveling to the city I adore. Mom has doctor appointment at one of the hospitals the wounded were taken to.
I am hoping to write a few stories and share some more photos I already have the photos in camera now to download them onto laptop and WRITE
Miss you all
Well spring has arrived here in NH and that means added joy and hope for better days ahead, not just for me but for all living things who need this planet to survive themselves. I hope the weather in your spot here on earth is not under water. I want my old planet back when you could count on normal weather but sadly we have done so many things wrong and usually it is not the super wealthy who get hurt the most. Not fair that I can say.
So I wanted to let you know I am so happy, no not just because of the flowers starting to bloom or the heat being turned of for most of the day but REALLY HAPPY, filled with joy from letting go of STUFF, physically and mentally purging is good for one’s soul, house too! Have you started spring cleaning yet?
My son and I are back to being able to speak to one another and for that all the pain I went through for 10 days was worth it. LOL He is happy and putting tons of ART out there and having fun isn’t that what we all want for our children.
I have been getting more of my prints out there for sale and soon will step back into my studio to melt some glass and see what this new joy will look like in beads and fused objects. I will do some more Zentangle as well but all of that will wait till gardens are in and house is painted 1/2 a house painted has to end!
Beading with tiny seed beads has taken a backseat for now I just have actually been to busy and too happy to sit still and ouch the body feels it! I may do a piece for special people or myself but not for sale anymore as they want them for free see you can teach an old dog new tricks!
So let me add a photo for you all let me know if you LIKE IT lol
Blossom/leaf from Pear tree
Have a great day!
Well March did come in as a Lion but from then on it has been one beautiful Lamb!
So much went on after Irene blew through these parts last year, that I fell behind on many things in our yard. So I took advantage of these warm temps. to some pruning.
The March 1st storm left my Rugosa Roses weighed down and looking uncared for, so this is where I began yesterday.
I filled this barrel 3 times from just the rose-bush closest to my living room. I know I will lose so many blooms this year, as the branches were loaded with buds but next year it will be fuller and healthier with roses all over it, once again. Mental note, trim Lilacs, Forsythia and Roses as they finish up their blooming season.
This is how they look now. Still plenty of height for the birds to be safe from the cat. We have a Red Tail Hawk who doesn’t seem to mind throwing himself into these bushes for a quick meal of a red squirrel or a Juno. Ouch the thorns are nasty, they were going through the thick gloves I had on.
I had noticed from the table as I was beading that a little squirrel had really found the dried fruits on this rose tasty, so I took a few shots through the window and screen to capture him in the act
This little one would crawl through all those thorns and then run back to this spot and sit and peel it, then devour it.
oops trying to shoot this through window without it seeing me is tough, let me show a photo with his whole head lol
He is on thorns on one branch and stretching as far as he can to grab another dried fruit, they must be delish!
This one was so tasty he just sat on all those thorns and ate it there!
I know I should have been beading but it was so nice out it did not take much to distract me .. No sign of the hawk this afternoon.
I raked and raked the thatch from the lawn and then it was time for a little Frisbee with JT she is not used to these temps. so she rests a lot!
I will till the garden this first week of spring and add all my seeds for cool weather crops.
The BBQ is set up as well as the table and chairs so maybe tonight I will do Chicken or Steak on the grill and celebrate SPRING and the warm temps she has blessed us with.
Enjoy your day as well
